MLB Gameday audio?

Its hard to get the Cardinal games here on the radio in Michigan much of the  time and I am wondering how well MLB GameDay Audio works. Is it clear and steady or do you have to keep rebooting it?  Is it worth buying?

I don't need video since I usually am working on my computer or working with my collies while I listen.   Or perhaps there is a better alternative then GameDay Audio?  Thank you for any input or help you can share with me. :)

I have the mlb.tv

and have used the audio before and it streams fine without reloading. I recommend it if listening is what you are into.

Gameday Audio works very well

You can choose home/away feeds, sound quality is good, no choppiness. I assume you have a broadband connection? I have MLB.tv but find myself occasionally just using the gameday audio if I’m doing something else around the house.

yup, broadband. :)

Yeah, I stay busy during games so Audio will be perfect since I can’t stay busy and watch the game at the same time. Thank you for your help!

Gameday Audio is great

For somebody like me that is on a pretty tight budget and can’t swing MLB extra innings this season (plus I work nightshift so I wouldn’t get to see most of the games anyway). I’m a big Mike Shannon fan and grew up with him and Jack so I really enjoy it.
Also I recommend tuning in over to the KTRS stream after the home games to listen to “Live at Shannons”

I'll check out KTRS.

Thanks for the heads up about it.

I have gameday audio

because I work in a basement and can’t get the local affiliate’s AM broadcast down there.

It’s an absolute steal.

You also get quite a few spring training games, and listening to the Spanish language feed of games in certain markets is a nice treat.

a steal, indeed

so many positives it is impossible to pass up. I’ve had it for five years and wouldn’t be without it {especially after KMOX was screwed out of being the flagship station}; it even worked well enough when I was still on dial-up a few years ago, but now that I am on cable… no problems with feed quality at all.
A few assumptions, though, about your question: the value, for you, would be lessened if you are mainly just interested in Cardinal games AND you have access to an AM or FM local affiliate. The biggest drawback to gameday is there is a 20-second (or more) lag from real time. So, if ESPN or Fox or whoever is doing a Cardinal game and you would prefer Shannon and Rooney, you will be very frustrated by the time lag.
The value would also be lessened, for you, if you have little or no interest in poking around and listening to other teams’ broadcasters {{ to me this is a major delight, especially the old boy who does the Seattle games }} and it would be lessened if you have no time or interest in listening to a game after it is over.
To some, the ability to experience the style and voices of all 30 broadcast teams, and access to ANY and all games already finished… is a stunning cornucopia of riches. For you this may not be so.

Another downside you probably already know: Rooney is a drone and Shannon often forgets to tell you what the f is happening ON THE FIELD. Moreover, none of the occasional substitutes (eg Mr Horton) is very good. I don’t mean to be maudlin, but Jack Buck is indeed gone.

Dave Niehaus is great

just about the only positive thing I can say about being in the Mariners broadcast market.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.

Agree

Great deal. Cheap enough that if you don’t use it for a week or so, you don’t feel guilty.

FYI – they will auto-charge your credit card each season to renew. I don’t mind, but it took me suprise the first time.

Only downside is the Cardinals announcers. Is it just me, or is Rooney’s home run call the lamest you’ve ever heard? He doesn’t even show a morsel of emotion until the ball is already in the stands, and then out comes his timeless catchphrase, “It’s a goner!” Say what you want about the Philly fans, but I’m not sure you can beat the four guys they have on a rotation in their TV booth. I love Mike Shannon, but I probably wouldn’t if I hadn’t grown up listening to him and Buck together.

I've seen on the net that some

ppl are having problems with MLB double and triple charging their credit cards and that contacting them is a huge hassle. Anyone here experienced this or know of anyone having this type of nightmare.

Is this the same Rooney who used to do the White Sox calls? Sounds like it… LOL

Thank you for telling me about MLB audio. :)

I have had

MLB.tv for three years and Gameday Audio has been thrown in for free the last two years. I have problems with the picture breaking up occasionally with the TV feed, but I have never had a problem with the radio signal.

I had a billing problem once and contacted MLB by e-mail. It took about a month, but the problem was resolved to my satisfaction (the credit card charge was reversed). During that time period, I tried to call and, yes, it was a nightmare. If you ever have a problem, detail it in an e-mail and make a copy and be prepared to wait. It will be dealt with eventually, at least that was my experience.

Thanks for the help!

Mainly, I’ve watched the Cards on TV or listened to them on the radio when visiting Milwaukee, Chicago, Cincy and the occasional times I can get them on the radio from St. Louis which isn’t all that often or even for whole games when they do come in.

I enjoy listening to other teams so this is a big bonus for me. I’ll have to check out the Seattle guy. There are teams I’ve always wanted to hear and with this I will now be able to do so. :)

Have you or anyone you know experienced any problems with this. I’ve read on the net about some complaints of over billing, it not working, no support, etc. Again, thank you for your help. :)

I had a lot of trouble with MLB audio 2-3 years ago, and the customer service

was absolutely atrocious. But the reliability seems like it’s consistently gotten better year by year, and this year it’s gone very smoothly for me. I also haven’t had any trouble with getting charged multiple times, although I was rather surprised and pissed off when I first found out about the automatic billing each year. A few times this season I’ve tried to log in and been told that my credit card from last year was no good and I’d need to pay for this year (even though this year’s fee has already been charged and paid for); but I just re-start my browser and that problem is solved. I’m not actually sure what’s causing it….

I live in Asia, Thailand after years in Japan. Gameday audio is a lifeline. MLB TV was blacked out in Japan.

I wrote MLB TV and asked about Thai reception, still no answer – though I was assured that my question was very important to them. Overall, I enjoy audio immensely.

Hope you do, too.

Yeah...

I lived in France for a year and Gameday Audio got me through some really boring times. Living in Oregon now I still rely on it, because man do I love listening to Mike Shannon blather. Heheheheheheheheheh fun at the old ballpark!

got it, and I love it!!!

Its like pig heaven, baseball all day! LOL….. nice to listen to the Cards, just wish they were winning. But, they’ll turn it around. Thanks for recommending MLB Audio, I am very happy with it. :)

I was thinking of making a comeback until I pulled a muscle -- vacuuming.
