Yeah, starting at 10 I assume.

Al has been toying with Edmonds and the Cubs all night. That was what was behind all that “Cubbies” nonsense.

Now we learn Edmonds is not playing so the texting will continue … and I guess we are going to have to hear about it.

Doesn’t Edmonds have anything better to do? How about studying the opposing pitcher?

Just another wonderful broadcast from Al and Dan.

It is nice getting the MLB.tv feed because you realize just how bad those 2 are when you listen to other broadcasters.

What is most insane is Bob Carpenter is doing a great job for the Nationals. All they would have to do is offer him the job and he would take it. I don’t get it.

Hey guys I have a quick question...

I am listening to the Cards TV feed and they mentioned that Wainwright is going to throw a change up when he comes back. The thing that seems strange to me is wasn’t he throwing a change up already? I mean an 80 MPH pitch with nearly fastball movement that has to be a change up right? Do you guys have any info on that?

Thanks

It's sad

Our starting pitching has completely shut down the Brewers this series, and yet we are close to losing 3 straight games

Reminds me of that last series versus the Cubs.

Our offense seems to choke in crucial games.

relief

this team needs a competent reliever badly. I think we can stand pat on offense and in the rotation but if Mo does anything it should be to pick up a frigging reliever that doesn’t completely suck.

kj

11 run in 2 innings for a 4.5 era. no reliever should have an era that high. tony can say what he wants, but a bullpen that ALWAYS gives up runs is a problem bigger problem , though, is that we are more than one position player/hitter behind what the crew has. no way to overcome that by trade or from within by july 31.

It is not just Ludwick.

Mo needs to unload all the waste on this team while it still has some value. Duncan, Reyes, Jiminez … those people need to be gone. The team improves if we part with those guys.

I am fine if we sell this year too, though. Not crazy sell, but a lot of veterans can go. Springer would bring something nice. Izzy may still have some value. Looper should get something decent. All those guys could go.

by Egyptian on Jul 23, 2008 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

by NorseKaiser on Jul 23, 2008 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Then his family can stay and he can pitch here again next year.

Also, Duncan, Reyes, Jiminez might not have trade value, but they need to be gone and Mo needs to find a way to get that done. Reyes and Jiminez cannot continue to pitch endlessly in Memphis and Duncan apparently cannot just be let go of, so he needs to find an acceptable way of getting rid of him.

Surely they will take Anthony of his hands. They have 3 starters for 5 spots and only one of them is performing consistently well. Seriously, he’d be an upgrade. The guy that is starting tomorrow has an ERA of 19.80 and hasn’t quite conquered AA yet. Grabow straight up for Reyes. Right now. Tonight. by Smokin Turkeys on Jul 23, 2008 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he's been Aaron Miles? No.

His OPS is like .986 since he’s returned (with a .450 OBP). He’s not hitting homers, but something tells me those will come soon enough, and in abundance.

by jdub176 on Jul 24, 2008 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I doubt it

he goes through these droughts seemingly annually. Then he goes back to a modest pace, but they days of Pujols hitting 40 HRs won’t return.

Not that I don’t mine him putting up a 1.500 OPS, mind you. But he is taking awful swings and in situations where a basehit would do, he is trying to yack it out of the yard…which right now he simply can’t do.

by Hardcore Legend on Jul 24, 2008 3:10 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think maybe his bum elbow is finally getting the best of him

To answer HL's earlier question about becoming sellers

if we get swept by the Brewers…..I still say maybe not…BUT if we lose 2 out of 3 from the Mets and lose one of the first games in the Braves series before the deadline, then I think it will be time to start thinking about next season.
But I also think every Cardinal fan has a right to be royaly pissed at Cardinal management for not trying to fix the bullpen before or even during this Brewers series. Yeah yeah you can say this was a transitional season but the fact that ownership didn’t try to make even one small move to help the bullpen for this important series even if it was for a “cheap” lefty specialist is a slap in the face for the fans who pay the 5th highest prices in terms of tickets to go to a game.
Management’s plan to wait until the deadline to try to do something may be too late…but maybe that was the plan all along…..

by KYCards on Jul 24, 2008 1:50 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

After getting swept by the Brewers,

if they do lose 2 out of 3 to the Mets…they need to stop kidding themselves and begin to get value for the chips they have.

Something else I want to get off my chest: HEY HRBOSKY! JUST BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE CLEVER PROPOSING WAINWRIGHT AS THE CLOSER DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD KEEP SAYING IT! This guy never thought Wainwright would be a quality MLB starter, which he has proven that he is one of the elite pitchers in the NL when healthy. He’s young and he is talented. He is the ace of the staff, with or without Carpenter. But Hrbosky keeps talking about making him the closer again. Wainwright was my hero in the 2006 posteason and my son’s middle name will be Wainwright but for fuck’s sake, he wasn’t Mariano Rivera! He got the job done and I will be eternally grateful, but he wasn’t a lock down closer. He gave up a shaky number of baserunners and his ‘out’ pitch is a nasty curveball that can be laid off of much like Cordero’s slider because he had trouble throwing it for strikes.

Wainwright will be a Top 2 vote getter one day in the Cy Young Award, I have no doubt in my mind. But don’t rob Peter to pay Paul here, just because the Mad Hungarian thinks he’s clever. Wainwright should be in the rotation, bottom line.

by Hardcore Legend on Jul 24, 2008 3:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah no doubt

This week we are playing two playoff contenders and if we go something like 1-7 or even 2-7 then I don’t think we are going to be able to overcome that kind of skid and think we can still get the wild card. If our hitters were able to hit Cubs pitching a little better I would be more hopeful since we have quite a few more games left with them…but since the offense seems hides under a rock when they have to face Zambrano & Lilly it doesn’t give me much promise. But let’s see how the next few games go before we fold our tent….
