Rotoworld Mid-Season Top 150 Prospects list

Available here.

Here were the Cardinals:

#3 Colby Rasmus (ETA May 2009)

#55 Jess Todd (ETA Sept 2008)

#58 Bryan Anderson (ETA 2010)

#91 Clayton Mortensen (ETA Aug 2009)

#115 Adam Ottavino (ETA Aug 2009)

It also says that the ineligable players Jaime Garcia and Brett Wallace WOULD have ranked #35 and #90 respectively.

There were a couple of screwy ones in there.. guys like Brandon Wood, Neftali Perez, Taylor Teagarden, and Elvis Andrus were extremely overrated

According to the article...

”...only those prospects currently in the minors and with future rookie eligibility still intact qualify for the list below.”

but

but they both have rookie status. the only thing i can figure with garcia is he came up with the list just after he was called up. but as the original poster said wood was on there but he has played in the majors longer than garcia and so has kershaw who was #2

garcia was in the majors at the time

and I think it was unknown whether he would be sent down. Since both Wood and Kershaw had already returned to the majors it wasn’t as much in question.

Just a guess...

but since Garcia has been on the big league roster and Wallace just started… just a guess though.

Maybe they just liked their names....

the overrated players, I mean

Teagarden

He is the Rangers version of Molina—he’s an extremely good defensive catcher that is going to have to learn how to be productive at the plate. His first MLB hit was a tater, so maybe he’s learning faster than I thought…. :-D

He was the starting catcher for Texas for four years despite never having any pop in his bat, mainly because he’s probably the best defensive catcher I’ve seen at the college level. Great feet, cannon for an arm, and Augie actually let him call games from behind the plate—something the old micro-manager rarely lets his catchers do. He might be overrated, but that depends on what you’re looking for in a catcher.

Sorry?

I know that this is not about anyone on the top 150, but figured this would be the best place on VEB to ask about a prospect at the moment. I was over at future redbirds and was checking out the depth chart and saw the name Lance Lynn. I haven’t heard the name before, or at least hadn’t yet committed to memory, but noticed he is listed as one of the top 12 right-handed starters in the system. I had seen or heard every other name on that list.

Questions:
Have I not heard of him because he’s in A ball right now?
When was he picked and what’s the ETA?
He looks like a flyball pitcher, will that work with Duncan, or in Busch III?
What else does anyone know about him?

He was just drafted this June

He was our supplemental pick. He will likely go the Clayton Mortensen root and end up in AAA by the end of next season if he doesn’t hit many snags in A or AA.

As for how he’ll work with Duncan, who knows? Besides, by the time he’s in the majors, Duncan most likely will have left this team.

He was just picked...

in this last draft. He was a sandwich pick (received for Percival). His ETA is not in the near future, but he was a college player so it should be sooner than a high school pick would be.

I remember hearing around the time of the draft that he had excellent control of his pitches. That’s about all I know.
