| baek | garcia |
| 2-5, 5.25 | 0-0, 0.00 |
the padres acquired baek from seattle earlier this year. he's got extremely good control but not a whole lot else going for him. you'd anticipate a slugfest, based on who the two starting pitchers are . . . . . but how often have our anticipations proven out this year? the final score will probably be 2-1.

If we won 2-1 then I'd be fine with it and happy Garcia did well
but if we lost 2-1, i’d be ticked. Pujols or no Pujols, this lineup can score more than 1 run agains Baek and the Pads.
yeah i'd be pissed as well
espcially considering TLR can use AP in any situation he wants today.

With you, bro
I’m really excited about Jaime Garcia starting. He went to high school at Sharyland in Mission, Texas. Looks like he’s filled out quite a bit, or maybe he spent extra time in the weight room after hurting the elbow in 2007.

That was funny!
Gotta dump the free extra innings feed for mlb.tv
I simply can’t listen to Matt Vasgersian (unless he’s accompanied by Mark Grace) especially since it’s obvious this is broadcast in HD but the non-hd cable feed cuts off parts of the screen, that shouldn’t be cut off.
he's terrible
but isn’t Ricky Horton the alternative?
my computer screen is like 15” and my TV is 28” and includes a couch, so unfortunately the TV wins out today.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.
Honesly
the HD Channel 5 feed on mlb.tv (on only 800k) is better quality than whatever they’re trying to do with the feed on Extra innings. And, yeah, I’d rather listen to Ricky Horton and whoever is in the booth.
Never been a fan of Vasgersian.
Vasgersian
I remember intensely disliking the guy, and I thought I was going to hate him watching on Fox yesterday, but he actually was OK. Mark Grace is a pretty entertaining color guy…..he had a funny story about pulling off a successful hidden ball trick against Mike Scoscia, who then swore at him the entire time Grace was up to bat the next time…..
I just remember Vasgersian
from those 989 Sports video game commercials where he would host a fake “Sportscenter”. never knew he was a real broadcaster until the last couple of years.
they sort of fixed the blown-up HD screen problem after the first few minutes. I can see why Extra Innings almost never uses their feed.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.
It's nice to see it in HD...
I was wondering what the issue was…
I’ve got Claiborne and Moonman on the radio, with the San Diego TV feed on mute. The XM audio feed lags the video by about 10 seconds, but it’s an acceptable solution to hear Shannon call the game.

did you see
the pads lineup? i think they are giving their entire MLB squad off and starting their AAA team. we should be fine.
I've seen their lineup
in Portland a few times this year already.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.
Phenom?
The mlb.com homepage has scrolling storylines and refers to Garcia as the “Cardinals Phenom.”
Anyone out there agree with that assessment? Maybe we did last year, but that seems like an overstatement at this point.
Anyway, I’ll throw my prediction in like so many have already done:
Garcia: 6 innings, 3 walks, 5 Ks, 5 hits, 2 ER

Seems like a pretty high pressure situation for a new guy. Maybe relief would have been better? At, least less risky.

the Cards' unceasing tendency
to convert pitchers from rotation to bullpen and back drives me nuts, and I’m sure it drives the pitchers nuts too.
they were hardly
trying to convert garcia to anything. he has been a starter his entire minor league career.
give em time
if he stinks at starting in the majors they’ll convert him. He’ll be a lefty version of B Thompson….
you honestly complaining about this?
do you realize that almost EVERY middle reliever was a starter in the minors? not just for our team but every team
Converting Looper to starter
was a brilliant move that worked out far, far better than I would have thought.
Seems that with a new guy
it makes sense to try them out at relief, and when we have a lead. Then, when they prove themselves, they can have a start. I thought that’s what they were doing with Garcia, when they brought him in the other day to close.

so...
where does that leave salty? probably DH or something if Bradley is healthy enough to play the field.
I think our offense
made an agreement with the padres offense so that our pitchers don’t look horrible.

Can't put all the blame on him
LaRue’s not exactly helping his confidence in throwing good breaking balls.
How stupid is that
before the game if you had said 5 innings 3 runs most everyone here would have been happy with that. blame our offense for this one so far….
Or after the first
I think we should all be tickled pink.
He’s still on pace to go another inning or two with a little luck… None of which we’re having this inning with that ball staying fair.
GIDP
if the Cards can’t put up more than 3 runs off of this hose-bag, they don’t deserve to win

Because he was just about walking around the bases
ESPN Management (CT): Umm…...what does this have to do with the Red Sox and Yankees?

Baek
walked around the bases.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.
Didn't El Duque do that last year against us and it sparked a rally?

I seem to remember something like that
might need a Pujols appearance to get this offense going though.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.
they spent a bunch of money on tickets
funky cold molina and hombre the giant aren’t playing, and now the team is losing.
yea,
but Pujols almost always sits on Sundays,
And, if you’ve been watching lately, you knew Molina wasn’t going to play today.

a friend of mine
had tickets to today’s game, was trying to sell them.
i told him he should go. i figured albert would be out, which meant duncan would play first, therefore insuring that ankiel and ludwick would be playing. yeah. ankiel rules.
and he could say he was there jaime broke his hymee
According to Shannon, it's because Baek is taking his sweet time getting around the bases

I just watched it on Gameday
It looked like he was going to take a nap after he rounded second base. That was pretty obnoxious. Would’ve been nice to jump on him in the bottom of the inning, but I guess we still have a little time.

we dressed up as characters from internet movies. A friend of mine was an Ottoman (from the video where the strange teenagers hump an ottoman, trying to show off their sex moves); I was a decorative sword from Cautionary Tales of Swords.
