San Diego Padres at St. Louis Cardinals, Jul 20, 2008 2:15 PM EDT

baek garcia
2-5, 5.25 0-0, 0.00

the padres acquired baek from seattle earlier this year. he's got extremely good control but not a whole lot else going for him. you'd anticipate a slugfest, based on who the two starting pitchers are . . . . . but how often have our anticipations proven out this year? the final score will probably be 2-1.

If we won 2-1 then I'd be fine with it and happy Garcia did well

but if we lost 2-1, i’d be ticked. Pujols or no Pujols, this lineup can score more than 1 run agains Baek and the Pads.

espcially considering TLR can use AP in any situation he wants today.

With you, bro

I’m really excited about Jaime Garcia starting. He went to high school at Sharyland in Mission, Texas. Looks like he’s filled out quite a bit, or maybe he spent extra time in the weight room after hurting the elbow in 2007.

Gotta dump the free extra innings feed for mlb.tv

I simply can’t listen to Matt Vasgersian (unless he’s accompanied by Mark Grace) especially since it’s obvious this is broadcast in HD but the non-hd cable feed cuts off parts of the screen, that shouldn’t be cut off.

by Tackle Box on Jul 20, 2008 2:03 PM EDT reply actions

he's terrible

but isn’t Ricky Horton the alternative?

my computer screen is like 15” and my TV is 28” and includes a couch, so unfortunately the TV wins out today.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.

by madding on Jul 20, 2008 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Honesly

the HD Channel 5 feed on mlb.tv (on only 800k) is better quality than whatever they’re trying to do with the feed on Extra innings. And, yeah, I’d rather listen to Ricky Horton and whoever is in the booth.

Never been a fan of Vasgersian.

by Tackle Box on Jul 20, 2008 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Vasgersian

I remember intensely disliking the guy, and I thought I was going to hate him watching on Fox yesterday, but he actually was OK. Mark Grace is a pretty entertaining color guy…..he had a funny story about pulling off a successful hidden ball trick against Mike Scoscia, who then swore at him the entire time Grace was up to bat the next time…..

by nota bene on Jul 20, 2008 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I just remember Vasgersian

from those 989 Sports video game commercials where he would host a fake “Sportscenter”. never knew he was a real broadcaster until the last couple of years.

they sort of fixed the blown-up HD screen problem after the first few minutes. I can see why Extra Innings almost never uses their feed.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.

by madding on Jul 20, 2008 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions

It's nice to see it in HD...

I was wondering what the issue was…

I’ve got Claiborne and Moonman on the radio, with the San Diego TV feed on mute. The XM audio feed lags the video by about 10 seconds, but it’s an acceptable solution to hear Shannon call the game.

He doesn't throw a slider, does he?

Maybe that’s why he’s had the reverse split in Memphis this year, because usually a LHP throws sliders to lefties and curves to righties

Last halloween

we dressed up as characters from internet movies. A friend of mine was an Ottoman (from the video where the strange teenagers hump an ottoman, trying to show off their sex moves); I was a decorative sword from Cautionary Tales of Swords.
