I'm in Boston for a reunion

And can’t get the game, so I’m relying on gamecast and u folks. Is this looking like a delay, or a rain out?

go cards.

There's some gnarly weather hanging out all over Northern and Western Missouri

so if they do get it in, they’re going to have to play like the wind!

I feel bad for my mom.

She’s at the game tonight on a “first date” kinda thing with a Met’s fan. I know when I’m at a game, even though they still sell beer, I hate rain delays.

how dare you let your mother go on a date with a Mets fan!

I suppose it’s better than a Cubs fan though :P

I'm in FL

what’s it look like there

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Like my living room

the living room is located in the basement, as there are 4 levels to the house. They are all split by small sets of stairs. We have two lamps and an overhead ceiling fan. The dog is asleep and I’m flipping between the various other ball games. There is an assortment of magazines on the coffee table and shelf with various little trinkets hanging on the wall. The missus lit a scented candle on the end table and you can see the flicker of the tiny flame on the wall, in an area the lamp light just doesn’t cover.

Why, what’s it look like there?

Usually I like your posts... Usually

But since you asked, my living room is dirty as hell, because my roommates refuse to clean anything. But the 63 inch HD draws enough attention that I don’t notice it while the Cards are playing, except when the MLB.TV rain delay graphic is on.

sitting on the end of the large L-shaped couch

I glance about the room seeing lots of cds, books, and dvds stored about the room. my hard drive recorder/mixer lies on the floor amongst multiple 1/4” audio cables as I turn on my practice amp and play the game through it. why I have been listening to the games lately through my guitar amp is anyone’s guess.

I also wouldn't mind him pitching multiple innings,

but not in a close game like this one. I think they should ease him back into things with low pressure situations.

the delay sent me over to the rays game and

watching them try to come back against the sox and one of the sparks has been bartlett, their ss. reminded of the zobrist talk. any word on zobrist and how close he may be to bartlett, who is playing very well this year.

I like the tail on the 2-seamer.

Nice little darting movement inside on Delgado.

so did delgado

this is absurd.

the guy can’t catch a break.

I revert to saying I’d have like to have seen Perez or Izzy. Even for the sake of them not having to deal with this awful luck.

Thats just it

Its bleeding eye grounder after bloop single after broken bat single all night long. Hit’s that look like line drives in the box score tomorrow, but are ground outs and pop outs any other night.

by Tackle Box on Jul 2, 2008 11:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Mentioned this above, think it's relevant...

the ball hit up the middle was hit much harder than a “bleeder”.

by dj tanner on Jul 2, 2008 11:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So you basically pick 1 hit out of 14.

that wouldn’t have scored a run had the runner not been given 3rd base.

by Tackle Box on Jul 2, 2008 11:33 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Only mentioned it b/c you did...

Guy asked about luck…nothing unlucky about a hard hit ball up the middle. Not trying to nit-pick…but I don’t think you could classify all those as bloops.

Calm down a bit. Nothing was decided in that outing.

by MichiganBird on Jul 2, 2008 11:35 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agree...

I mean, where do you go w/ him from here? You can’t keep sticking him in high leverage situations where you hope to come out (stay) ahead.

by dj tanner on Jul 2, 2008 11:37 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'd prefer to actually see him not have any control

or possibly be hit somewhat hard before I gave up on him. But I guess it’s cooler to over-react and try to be creative.

by Tackle Box on Jul 2, 2008 11:38 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not a surprise

I wasn’t over-reacting and blowing things out of proportion.

by Tackle Box on Jul 2, 2008 11:40 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't get the harsh response?

Everyone here is entitled to an opinion, even if it differs from yours.

by dj tanner on Jul 2, 2008 11:46 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Look, if this was an ordinary pitcher coming off a 3 week stint on the DL to rest his elbow,

I’d be patient. This is not “just one outing”. This is two years of being just around the corner. This is months of not being able to pitch effectively in the minors. And he comes back and pitches a third of an inning and gives up a chunk of hits and a hit batter. When was the last time he was effective above A ball?

by tom s. on Jul 2, 2008 11:41 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's also throwing 91

consistently with good movement on his fastball and a nice bit on the curve. Time will average out the bloop hits. That’s a function of BABIP, and it’ll take time to even out. Just a little bad luck so far, imo

by MichiganBird on Jul 2, 2008 11:43 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

so, if I think the outing is a sign of ineffectiveness, I'm making a hasty decision.

If you decide that this is going to even out, based on one performance, that’s a measured and thoughtful opinion.

I would have respected your objection more if you’d just said “wait and see.”

by tom s. on Jul 2, 2008 11:48 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's exactly what me response says

“wait and see”. Just not in those words. The concepts of averages and BABIP are not unique to Mulder. If you judge any rehabbing or new pitcher based off one outing, that’s silly. Especially since it wasn’t that bad of an outing and you’ve decided not to consider his Monday results in your conclusion.

by MichiganBird on Jul 2, 2008 11:52 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

no, your response said "just a little bad luck"

that means you think that mulder will do better and in fact is pitching well.

A wait and see answer would consider both possibilities: that Mulder may not be pitching well and that he may be just unlucky.

by tom s. on Jul 3, 2008 12:03 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ok

feel free to continue considering only one possibility yourself. I’ll choose to take the pitch into account when I evaluate the outcome.

by MichiganBird on Jul 3, 2008 12:10 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree with you

look at his recent body of work. There is nothing there to support additional chances. I think it makes more sense to look at his rehab work and his inability to start ball games and NOT at this one “unlucky” outing.
