Ty Johnson is feeling good after “three trays of stuff” was pulled out of his shoulder. He is thinking of using it to make a snow globe, as I hear it.

Meanwhile, Mark Mulder has been prescribed to take two weeks off before throwing his career in the toilet.

Came in to face a lefty

walked him, although one of the balls was a pretty good pitch.

Villone came in with the bases loaded. (Springer allowed back-to-back hits after Flo’s walk. Ludwick deked a runner back for the second time of the day to keep the lead runner from scoring on the second hit.) Villone struck out the lefty he faced, working him up-and-in and low-and-away, then got a 2-out flyball to end the threat.

Ray Durham OR Jack Taschner

is what Haudricourt speculates. Brewers seem pretty well put together from the left side of the ‘pen, so Taschner doesn’t make all that much sense. I guess Durham would be an offensive upgrade over Counsell, but he can’t play second well or short at all.

Sergio Romo?

by liam on Jul 19, 2008 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Andrew Brown?

If the trade is with the A’s. He’s got a sparkling ERA supported more by very low BABIP than his fielding independent contributions. (A 2.08 run/9 difference between ERA and FIP)

I’d think the A’s could get more for him than just the speedy A+ OF, though.

by liam on Jul 19, 2008 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

From MLB TradeRumors

“WSSP 1250 AM in Milwaukee is reporting that Milwaukee Brewers and the San Francisco Giants are close to a deal that would send Milwaukee’s Double A Catcher Angel Salome, Single A prospect Outfielder/speedster Darren Ford, and Triple A First Baseman Brad Nelson to the Giants for Second Baseman Ray Durham, Reliever Jack Taschner, and a PTBNL.”

FWIW

by Red in Chicago on Jul 19, 2008 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

That'd be a good trade

for the Giants. They got their ML-ready “left-handed hitting 1B” in Nelson, a good hitting catcher in Salome, and a potential leadoff hitter down the road for spare parts and dumped some salary.

by liam on Jul 19, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

not a bad trade for the Giants at all, Salome looks like he’s going to be a real good catcher. That being said, i’d of kinda liked to land Jack Taschner on the Cards.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/07/street-to-brewe.html

Brewers beat writer Tom Haudricourt thinks Oakland closer Huston Street is Milwaukee-bound. He says the word on the street is outfielder Darren Ford, 22, is the price. Ford was pulled from Brevard County’s lineup before its game against Clearwater. Says Haudricourt:

The fact that Ford was pulled from the lineup makes me believe something could be up. He has no injury that I know of.

Baseball America did not list Ford among the Brewers’ top 10 prospects before this season, but he was named the organization’s fastest baserunner and best defensive outfielder. So far this year in the Florida State League, Ford is hitting .232 with a .321 OBP and a .307 SLG. He’s got 44 steals in 87 games.

From his wikipedia page
However, he is now most popularly known as the “The Big Puma.” Before the 2006 season started, in an interview with a local Houston sports radio station, Lance was asked to coin a new nickname for himself. He sarcastically responded that he played baseball like a big puma, that is, he is fierce, sleek, and powerful, yet quick on his feet. And despite its comedic origins, Houston fans and media latched onto “The Big Puma.” With his outstanding start in 2008, this nickname also became known on a national level.

Fat Elvis is my favorite too. And I think you’d actually look less out of place dressing up as Elvis than as a puma…

So, if Carp is supposed to be back

(knocks on wood) barring injury on August 9th or 15th, when is Wainwright supposed to return? Is he first back? Is he going to go out on rehab assignments or are they just going to have him throw some bullpen sessions and simulated games?

By this time next month, maybe would don’t have to worry about Wellemeyer and Looper not being very good (as of late).

Rotation of this anyone?
Wainwright
Lohse
Carpenter
Pineiro
Boggs/Wellemeyer/Looper/Garcia

1-2-3 in that list looks pretty tough to me for '09 too!

(That is, if Lohse it not just doing it with smoke and mirrors this year, Waino has no ill effects, and Carp is close to his previous wonderfulness.)
