Missed a big opportunity there but we'll get a couple more chances to win this one.  It'd be a shame to blow it.  Let's go boys!

Here’s hoping he can keep this up the rest of the season. Guy’s pitching great.

last night (i was at the game) when i was sure franklin was going to blow i was thinking why the cardinals don’t give russ a chance to close games.

trades?

I don’t get where people are making an argument that we need a pitcher before a bat. A bat can help catch up with the cubs everyday compared to a pitcher who throws every five days. We have match up pitchers, especially when Wainwright gets back. Lohse, Wain, and Looper ( proved he can pitch against most number 2s last year.) and MAYBEE HOPEFULLY Carp

Answered you in the last thread

Name a big bat who can play the middle infield with good defense and who won’t cost Razzle Dazzle and we’ll talk. (I like Khalil Greene)

We’re set very well in the outfield. We could use a better backup 3B/Spiezio-type. But we could use more pitching and pitching is a little easier to come by.

Those guys are great but we can replicate that. If we could (not saying we would) get Roberts (BAL) or Kinsler (TEX) for a mixture of spare parts I’d do it. I just know that’s not gonna happen. I guess we gotta deal with Kennedy, BR, and Miles for a little while. I’d love to get back Ronnie Belliard, but I doubt that’s what Mo’s going after.

by stltrav09 on Jul 18, 2008 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Technically,

there is no “perfect” position to be in. You put yourself in the best position and make the call the way you see it. If he’s up the 1st base line, there’s a very good chance the catcher blocks his view. Can’t position himself in front of the plate, so that’s the best position. If Ankiel slides (and I’m not saying he should have with the catcher blocking the plate like that) the ump has no problem seeing the play.

But “worst post of the night”? What in his previous year has made you think Todd woud be a great pitcher? This may be the peak of his value.

Negatori

All signals, from Mo and Duncan are he’s going to start unless he has problems in rehab.

by Red in Chicago on Jul 18, 2008 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions

More likely Wellemeyer

I think. Just because he seems to be a little bit fried. I guess it could go either way, but Looper would probably be more pissed about that move because he is adamant that he wants to be a starter.

by Red in Chicago on Jul 18, 2008 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn't be surprised to see

Wellemeyer go to the DL instead of the pen.

Really would be great to sweep this series

or at least take 3 out of 4.

looking ahead here…I’m kind of worried how our offense will do against Sabathia & Suppan (we can’t seem to do anthing against him). That Brewers series is a big one….I really hope if Mo has some kind of trade cooking that he isn’t letting on about that he pulls the strings on it before we face the Brew Crew. We will need whatever extra help we can get.

Time for Looper to take a break?

After his last couple of games I am getting really concerned about Looper. I think he may be in line for one of those phantom DL stints so he can rest up (much like last season when he hit the wall) and bring Boggs back up to take his place for a couple of turns in the rotation. This way we might get the “good Looper” for the stretch drive in mid August & September when we will really need him to be his best.
