San Diego @ St. Louis

Maddux Looper
3-8, 3.90 9-7, 4.25

will this be the last time greg maddux pitches in st. louis? he has won 14 games in our city, and 26 against the franchise (against 20 losses). one of the best hurlers ever, and one of my favorite players.

interesting lineup

I like it. Ludwick is in the diet-of-fastballs position. Does Tony know something we don’t about Maddux?

by nota bene on Jul 18, 2008 7:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Maddux is one of the leaders in FB %

He throws mostly just FBs. My guess as to the player mostly likely to have sucess vs Maddux being Ankiel.

Well

How ‘bout that 3-run HR by Luddy tonight?

Really liking,

maybe even loving, that lineup.

Here’s a toast to Maddux pitching for another three years or so. He should be an automatic induction into the HOF for what he did during the steroid era. It’s insane.

My fellow Americans. As a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball, but tonight I say, we must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

Agreed

Maddux is probably my favorite non-Cardinal pitcher of all-time (since I’ve been following baseball, at least :D)

One of my favorites too

and I wouldn’t mind if he was added at the trade deadline rather than Washburn.

Mrs. Goaler and I

are off to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary (preferably somewhere with real! live! music!), so I’m leaving tonight’s other amusements to y’all…

Celebrate responsibly, genties and ladlemen… (Albeit I keep having thoughts of Greg Maddux wearing the Birds On The Bat myself! I really oughtta stop that, I s’pose…)

No harm no foul

Looper didn’t look very good that inning. But he looked better than Lohse did in the 1st last night.

for those without eyes tonight

and Fox.com being slow on the refresh; could someone please help a brother out with some details?

two outs

pujols: single

glaus: double, AP to third

ankiel: 2 RBI single

out

by stlcardinalsfang on Jul 18, 2008 8:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Pujols hit a seeing-eye single

just out of the reach of kouzmanoff. Glaus reached out and smashed a line drive into the gap for a double fielded shy of the wall, and ankiel hit a line drive into CF that drove them both in.

I think Maddux is using a wiffle ball.

by Red in Chicago on Jul 18, 2008 8:34 PM EDT   0 recs

that k pitch to luddy was wicked

I think it was still a bit outside, but it had some great movement.

0-1 so far

0-2

lined out to 2B in his second turn at the plate.

Also committed a fielding error on a groundball through the infield. A little rusty.

1-3

Line drive single to right.

thats twice this season he’s been in the booth and the Cards gave up the lead the first time, and just now they let the fathers tie it up.
