I dont know but feel free to try
18 games in a row with no off day. Might go with the extra bullpen guy considering our starters are only going 5.2 Innings a game. Though with Lohse going 7 today and Mather getting the HR. He might have bought himself a day.

it's less about the decision for an arm
and the decision of which arm. Randy Flores just isn’t good. I don’t understand why management can’t grasp that.

I didn't follow the previous game thread so forgive me if someone else has mentioned this
Chris Duncan has not looked good tonight.

In the 4th, Peavy tries to go inside on him but couldn’t catch the plate. He busts Chris low and away and gets him out. Notice pitch 3 looks like a strike but Peavy doesn’t get the call. Chris has to learn to protect the low part of the plate better.

In the 7th, we see what my book on Chris Duncan would be—low and inside. Chris can’t lay off these pitches (often) and usually swings right over the top of them. I don’t think that he’s ever going to correct this hole given the length of his swing but at the least he needs to foul those off on occasion. He has been hitting better as of late but he’s got some significant holes in his game yet.

When I use gameday I slide the screen around to get kind of a “catcher’s eye” view, better for telling outside/inside

I didn't watch
but I can imagine Steve Phillips and the rest of the clowns on Baseball Tonight are going nuts because of the way the Mets are playing. Was half of the show about the Mets??

Yeah, they led with the Mets and talked for quite awhile
Steve Phillips wasn’t on the show, thankfully, although it’s funny because he’s become a sort of punching bag for everyone

For the pen?
Does anyone think Balti would possibly give up Sherrill?

this may seem simple and dumb...
but why cant Springer close? seriously, he’s about as shut-down as they come…

i definitely see where you're coming from
but i really like the way he comes in and shuts the opposition down in high levarage situations

I was thinking the same thing tonight
Franklin & Izzy are just not lights out closers and are a pitch away from blowing a close game badly. Springer isn’t really a lights out guy either…but he has been more so than the cardiac twins. I see where they sent Perez down…..I hate to say it..but he is still a year away or more from being a reliable closer. He shined in a few games…but I wasn’t real impressed with his showing thus far….don’t want to give up on him though.

Love Springer
Don’t think he should close. He’s closing in on 40 years old, and was injured earlier this season due to a tired arm (IIRC). I don’t think he could be out there night after night and be as effective as he’s been since coming off the DL.

Jimenez again?????
From Derek Goold : “The Cardinals are expected to make an additional move to protect their pitching for 18 games in 18 days, probably promoting righthander Kelvin Jimenez and optioning outfielder Joe Mather today.”
How many more times does this guy have to suck that we don’t have to see him again?

Roster choice, Mo, To
Going down:
Player A – hit winning HR today, plays several different positions adequately, Bats R in the face of sure-to-come lefty pitchers
Player B – plays one position barely adequately, but that position is blocked. Defensive liability anywhere else, bat L and strikes out often.
Your call, Mo, To.
Coming up
Player A – Sometimes dominat pitcher, can start, middle inning relief or short relief, WS success, once 1-hit White Sox
Player B – frequent cameos in the majors – eac a disaster followed by well-deserved demotion.
Your call, Mo, To

Oh, yeah - forgot
On coming up, player B can only be counted on for a single out – though it often takes about six hitters before that goal is achieved. . ..
