Bud Selig Interview

Did anyone watch or listen to Mike and Mike on ESPN this morning? Bud Selig was on and talked about the state of baseball. Two of the more interesting points he talked about was revenue sharing and Golic's protest to having the All-Star game deciding home-field advantage. I missed a majority of what he said about the All-Star game, but he did impress me in the idea that he believes baseball is starting to come out of dark times.

With all due respect,

Bud Selig has had his head in the sand(or somewhere else) for so long, he has lost touch with the real world. The best thing that could ever happen to MLB would be if Selig retired today. Now. This minute.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Indeed

I am not a fan of bud's

but I do think it is unfair to say Bud has his head in the sand. I think he is very much tuned to what is going on but is too much of a coward to do anything. When he does act it is usually after public outcry is so vehement that he has no other choice. Unfortunately his response is usually the worst kind of knee jerk solution that gets a lot of press coverage but does not address or solve the real problem.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and sometime it rains.

I still think its funny

how there was such public outcry over how the All-Star game in Milwaukee ended in a tie. People were demanding their money back and all kinds of crap. They complained that the players didn’t take it seriously and that something should be done to prevent such a travisty from ever happening. So Bud said, “Fine, we’ll make it count.” And he instituted the whole home field thing with the All-Star game and people freaked out and asked how you could make an exibition game count for home field!!!!! Blah, blah, blah!!!!

For the record, i don’t support the game determining home field, but I think it’s hilarious how people were calling him names and demanding he did something to change what had happened and when he did, they freak out again.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, be careful what you ask for, because you might just get it.

What if tomorrow ends in a tie?

What would Bud do if he ran into the same issue tomorrow as the game in Milwaukee? That would be a stitch!

Exactly

He didn’t address the problem, which was the notion that everyone should get a chance to play, which becomes a real issue when you run out of pitchers. To me, it counts no more now than it did before, considering that the home field advantage was decided on an every-other-year basis before he changed it.

did i miss something?

When the guys asked him about having the team with the best overall record have home field advantage, Bud said something about not being able to get ready for the WS in 8 days if they didn’t know where game 1 would be played because of hotel rooms and other logistics. Huh? And Mike & Mike just said “oh, I didn’t think of that” and just went on. Hasn’t Bud ever heard of the NBA? He made it sound like they would know where game 1 would be played as soon as the ASG was over. Last year, they didn’t know whether the game would be in Boston or Cleveland until after game 7 of the ALCS. What am I missing?

If you can't figure it out

then I’m not telling you.

ummmmmmmmmmm

Are we sure he hasn’t lost his mind? Or is he just full of shit, as per usual?
