All-Star Victory Drought

Since the National League has not won the All-Star game since 1996, I have wondered why this has occurred.

Could it just be that there are better players in the AL?

Could it be that since there are only 14 teams in the AL, they get to add 2 players who are having better years out of the entire AL group of teams while the National League has to take those two players from specific teams?

Could realigning the divisions cause this somehow?

Just some thoughts I have and want to know other opinions/reasons.

I tend to think

that the talent gap is softened since this game is for only the elite of either league. The top players from both leagues are fairly comparable in talent, so this just screams fluke to me. Doesn’t the All-Star game seem to go in cycles anyway? The NL dominated this contest for many years some time ago, now the AL is king. At some point, the cycle will shift the other way.

The Nl last won the AS Game in 1996, since then the game has been decided by three runs or less 8 times, by 2 runs or less 5 times, by only one run 3 times, with one tie. A ton of things could have swung those contests.

I concur with both, above

small sample size and a fluke, at that.
During the course of a season, moreover, teams like Kansas City and Pittsburgh go on a winning streak of similar length; temporary; doesn’t indicate superiority.

Bad Managing

Pujols, last year

Prospects are good. Especially when they aren't rushed.

im telling you

this is the year we win it.

Most of their big time stars are old now and falling off, guys like Manny and Vlad are great but not what they once were and we have a lot of younger stars like Utley and HanRam.

assuming the fans wise up

and vote in a real AS NL outfield, instead of Soriano and Fukudome.

Griffey's a way worse choice at this point than those two

and I LOVE Griffey.

They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
