Game 63 Open Thread
Braden Looper Brian Moehler
7-4, 5.03 2-2, 4.54
Go Go Gadget Game Thread. This is the first game thread I've done since the site upgrade. After 15 minutes and a minimal number of four letter words, I am victorious.
Dear Cardinals,
Please win. Win convincingly and without the need for heroics. No late game blown saves and don't stop scoring after the third. I'm out of Franklins so don't mess around tonight.
Thanks,
azru

how did you access mlb.tv?
through mosaic or the site? mine just keeps loading but all I see is a blank window

The whole MLB site seems screwed up.
Postpone everything. Stop the games! No more pitches! The World is No Longer Watching!!!
Out of Franklins...
On a Friday?
And with the mlb.tv problems, it sounds like it’ll be a miserable night for a few of you fellas.
Dude,
I wrote the whole thing in 7 weeks. I think the best way to do it is to just focus only on that. When I was doing anything else, I struggled to advance it. But, once i cleared everything else off my schedule, it has gone really quick. That is what I recommend. No job, no bars, no women … nothing. When you deprave yourself of everything, it is amazing how hard you will work to get it all back as quick as possible.
That's impressive
Sounds like you’re going to rock out tomorrow night.
No job isn’t an option for me, but I’ve definitely cut back on the bars and women. It’s getting there.
Yes, the plan for tomorrow
Beer + Shots + DQ Blizzards + A Fine Cigar + Women (as many as … well, one is good).
Oh yeah, and a good shower – I have sort of been skipping on those.
DQ Blizzards & women
at the same time I hope. Oh, what a weekend

You know what I'd do if I had a million buck Peter?
DQ Blizzards and women at the same time.

I am in editing mode

But, quite possibly Freudian.
how does one
watch these games without Franklins?
Tell you what azru. I will drink for both of us tonight.

Glaus and Cesar
both had some nice catches that inning.
1-2-3 for Looper
the whole broadband must be out
it asks if you want to view site by narrowband and if you choose yes, you can go to gameday
Why is this guy successful?
Looks like a two pitch pitcher (fastball/slider), with a fastball that tops out at 88. What’s the deal boys?
BTW, anybody notice Yadiers BA was up to .300 before that AB? Wow.

Im so mad, this is the first game this week I was going to be able to watch while it was live
They better get this fixed soon.
Indeed
I’m actually surprised that they didn’t somehow still manage to serve up some Nissan commercials while I’m waiting for this page to load.

Yeah, they are los bastardos.
Although it seems like they’ve been a lot more reliable this year than in the past couple.

My favorite
is how the just automatically bill your credit card like on the first day of spring training.
That actually isn't that bad
I think the most crass thing is the recent move of actually cutting out the paid commercials from the fox feed and replacing them with their out advertisers. It’s like paying for the game twice. Brilliant!
by cloistermaximus on Jun 6, 2008 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions
Doesn't bother me either
But I’ve just got gameday audio, which is dirt cheap for the value you get.
Make sure you have the bandwidth for it...but it's worth 5 bucks a month

Not necessarily
"Regression to the mean is so much more fun to watch when it’s a Cub who is regressing." SleepyCA
Ok.
Good to know. I plan to watch a lot of these games in my new office at the university and they might not particularly care for me using that kind of bandwidth every night.
I'd imagine a big university's bandwidth would be more than fine
But the generic “basic” cable package may not be enough. I had a bit of a problem at my duplex down at school at times at full 1.2, but the university internet was plenty enough though.

Bad News for te Cardinals?
Well the Rotoworld guy has it half right. If the Colonel has to go on the DL, that is bad news. If we HAVE to see Boggs and Garcia in the rotation, I can live with that. They pitch great, it kinda makes Pin and Loop trade material.
* sarcasm might be involved in this comment
I would expect a DL stint would mean Reyes or Boggs
But not garcia. I doubt he is ready for the MLB yet.
Last I heard
The club hasn’t heard anything back from the exam. Lets not put to much into the cubs fan’s words. Though I am scared.
I never take those things too seriously
no one will bring down my high hopes for Jaime

a team would have to be
pretty desperate to take on pineiro’s contract….Looper doesn’t make as much, but is a free agent after the year so really neither of them are gonna really get us anthing in return. Wouldnt mind seeing them moved though

Not that I can tell
Hawksworth is on the DL, but I don’t know when that happened.
As for who replaces him at Springfield… David Kopp looks like he could handle it. Furnish is giving up home runs at a sick rate for the FSL. Kyle Mura had a rough start tonight but has looked pretty good most of the time.
Geez
at the rate he is going, he might be in the Cards rotation by September. All the way to AAA in less than a year. Impressive

Rember is was the hated draft pick of last year.
Much like Lynn is this year. Just a cautionary tale about jumping to conclusions.
i dunno...
I seem to recall the hated pick last year was Kozma

They were both
pilloried as overdrafts.
I’ve come to the conclusion that much of draft analysis is pure groupthink.
I refuse to hate draft picks
you never know what you are going to get. I will only get upset if they pass on someone. the guys who get drafted, I will follow and root for.

You can hate the process
I don’t think anyone hates Kozma or is rooting against him, quite the opposite, they/we hate drafting Kozma over Porcello because of money and not talent.

this last promotion is as much as function of
need for a warm body as anything else. Mortensen has been pushed hard without really mastering levels. I’d still call him at least a year away from being ready.
I called MLB.tv
She said everything crashed and they don’t know how long itss going to take to get it fixed. Such help!
It was actually surprisingly quick, less than 5 minutes.
But she interrupted me before I was done asking her what was going on and was very rude.

shit, when Pujols bent down that like
I thought he hurt his calf even more
Cubs don't start until 9:40 tonight
You wouldn’t believe how much that pisses off the other fifteen percent.
Izturis
threw a DP ball past second, went to the wall, two runs score.
Next batter: groundball to Pujols, fields it cleanly, rifles it to Molina. Molina bobbles the ball for the four seconds the throw beat the runner by, runner safe.
Next batter: groundball past Glaus that would’ve been a double play.
Shoddy, shoddy defense.
runners at 1st and 2nd grounder up the middle to iz2… rushes the throw to first and throws it past albert up the line. both runners score, batter moves to third.
next batter grounds up the line to albert, bare hands throws home in time to get lee (the runner) molina looking up the line drops the throw.
now runners at 1st and 2nd again only one out
Man, I would love to trade Looper right now.
He is certainly on the downhill slide now, but still has a good record that would appeal to some team. We could get some good young talent for him now … by the trading deadline I will be surprised if we can get a middle reliever.
should be good
for a compensation pick in the draft next year. I doubt he would hold that much value in a trade right now.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
Didn't we just get one Parisi
last night for not being able to work out of a jam?
We sent Parisi to Memphis. Should we do the same with Looper?
He has 7 wins and will probably finish 12-14
With that archaic rating system I’m sure he will be.

When people ask me about law school ...
I tell them that I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world ….
But that I would never, ever do it again.
In all seriousness,
It is a great experience. I built friendships that will last forever and know more than most humans should be allowed to know.
It changes your perspective on life … in a good way.
You’ll enjoy it … but that doesn’t mean it will be fun.
What sucks the most about this is that I have to listen to the houston telecast
and hear them talk about how unlucky we are that our closer is on the dl. wtf?
They should talk about some of the skeltons in their closet
like how Bagwell lost all of his bulk in a matter of a year…. the steroid rumors of their hero.
although I keep picturing a rally the likes of what we had last night...
Glaus is about due tonight isn’t he? No homerun yet today
I was thinking the same thing earlier.
If not for that one terrible inning defensively we’d be looking much better for the night
a lot it seems
but our pitching is pretty solid, who do we have on the mound the next two nights?

Seriously dude
and I should point out that those globes were pointed out by the woman watching the game with me.
luddite concern
inevitable shame, but luddy has given his number to the opponents and they are using it. interesting to see how long tony plays him regularly. if ti’s just a slump, he may end up sorting it out on the bench instead of in the lineup and the team will really be in the market for a bat.
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!
yep
ak = 1. duncan =1, lee = 1; albert = 13. draft isn’t a complete crapshoot, but it’s close, even with first rounders. current first round pick was not on anybody’s the board out of high school, but now a 1; hope he stays on same trajectory and looks like d. lee in 2-3 years
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!
luddy.2
seems to me is getting suckered on the high outside pitch as well, breaking ball, change-up, fb—you name it, he misses it. early in the year he was hitting that ball well to the opposite field. now he can’t seem to make that fine distinction between balls and strikes around the outer edge high or low. can’t keep swinging at non-strikes like he is doing and last very long. he must adjust to that pitch or start watching the game from the dugout.
hope he makes the adjustment, we need him
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!
I think that has something to do with yesterdays loss in the nightcap
hell that was a long day for me, just think how long it must have been for them
They say I look like yadier molina
i would say about 800 grit
roughly the grit of the label on a bottle of stag. The label in and of it self is pretty smooth yet the beer is a little rough. Use the label just right and you can get it to sand something down. But the quality of the product inside makes it quite difficult to achieve said production.
Kennedy has actually been hitting better lately
as much as you might want to deny it
They say I look like yadier molina
The only highlight of the night
Shannon talking about drinking in Alaska and Gameday Audio/KTRS cuts out in the middle of the inning.
And apparently our only run ... keep off the audio gameday.
That was weird wasn't it
for a minute I thought they were censoring something Shannon was going to talk about!
can they bring back numbnuts from philly for us to pitch the 9th
numbnuts of course would refer to lidge
Pisser
That AB was a battle. Still impressed with what Boggs is doing tonight. Lousy pitch, though.
Nice to see the 2005, 2006 draft class paying dividends already.
Well I guess this is the start of out tough June schedule
let’s hope we can stay afloat by June 30th.
We might have some company soon
The Brew crew are winning going for their 7th win in a row. Cincy is whipping the Marlins.
The Comedy Central no more…it’s the toughest division in the NL now.
+1
injuries, schedules, 7 rooks=june challenge for sure

So, let me get this straight
Pineiro is still on the DL
Looper fucking blows
Wellemeyer has elbow problems AGAIN
And Kyle Lohse is getting by on the skin of this teeth?

So, we are realistically looking at a rotation of:
Wainwright
Lohse
Boggs
????
Looper
Are we really going to skip a rotation spot to get Looper up a day earlier?
