Is there a reason TLR pulled the Colonel after only 79 pitches and 6 IP with another game yet to play tonight? Was Col. struggling?

Colonel was pitching great...

I have no idea why he took him out. TLR probably has a quick trigger because he left Wainer in too long couple games ago.

Except that half of their club is on the DL

It’ll be like pitching in AAA all over again for Parisi, or, at most, AAAA.

Remember, Zimmerman is on the DL as well as Nick Johnson, Austin Kearns, Ronnie Belliard and Paul Lo Duca. In terms of their ‘pen, Chad Cordero is also on the DL.

Just called

“One of the top 5 bats in the draft” then went on to talk about how he will get a chance as a third baseman, but probably will end up at 1B. He can hit line drives and for a bit of power. Good average as well.

Anyone else feel like TLR is babying these starters to a point? Wants to make sure they get the wins?

by Pitchers Hit Eighth on Jun 5, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Why?

Throwing 6 pitchers in the first game of a day/night doubleheader and the first of five games in four days is not a good idea?

by bgh on Jun 5, 2008 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

but I am fine with it. I think Tony is not all that comfortable with any of the starters except Wainwright (and look what happened there). When a starter has a lead and has done pretty well, I think he is right to get them out of there. Now, the Lohse thing two nights ago was clearly just trying to get Kyle the win. I don’t think he was babying Lohse and I think that Lohse, after Wainwright, is the pitcher that Tony trusts the most not to blow up.

by Egyptian on Jun 5, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

don't disagree

May’s PotM has sure shown some things so far, why not let him go at least one more inning?

by Pitchers Hit Eighth on Jun 5, 2008 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

The problem is tony has only two choices.

Blow up the starter and let him throw 130
OR
Take the starter out after 70

There are no options for those 60 pitches in between.

This draft is too weird

Is incredible. Soo many reaches.

Alonso selected at #7..over Smoak, when the Reds have Votto.

C Jason Castro going from late 1st rd. to #10 (to a team that doesn’t need a catcher)

Smoak falling from #3-5 to #11

Brewers draft a catcher at #16, when they have 2 prospects in Lucroy and Salome. They needed pitching.

David Cooper, who was an early supp. round talent going at #17.

Cashner/Perry/Fields from 19-21 (huge overdraft on relief pitchers)

Havens (who is overrated, BTW) going at #22, when he was supposed to be 29-30.

Allen Dykstra at #23—was supposed to be supp. to 2nd rd.

ANTHONY HEWITT!? at #24. Huge reach!

by KeepOnRolen on Jun 5, 2008 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

I think the Brewers last year gave a lot of teams the "don't let what other people think affect us" mentality strengthen a lot

Dunno if that’s good or bad, but the Brew-crew were largely roasted for popping the best bat in the whole draft and figuring out a position later. Seems that worked so far so teams are copy catting…

And..

I think the Rockies will take Melville or Odorizzi. I don’t want Cole to go the Cardinals at all, but Friedrich would be wonderful.

if the cubs and cards are both this good,

and the brewers come on strong, and the reds and ‘stros remain decent, it might be. though if the yankees actually put it together, the top 3 in the al east will be pretty disgusting.

I was surprised to look at the standings

and find the Reds, Pirates, Astros, and Brewers all hovering around .500 ball

They have been just about the best division in the N.L. the last few years.

We kept producing N.L. champions except for last year.

I think this is now the division St. Louis built. A lot of these young teams have been looking up to us and the Stros and the standard and now they are ready to compete.

I gotta say

I LOVE the Wallace pick, this kid is a good enough hitter to step into Palm Beach, or even Springfield, tomorrow, and start raking. He’s a bad body, but so was Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman, John Kruk, etc..

Now, if we can land Tim Melville at #39, i’d be ecstatic

Hey everybody.

I’ve got a new draft thread up so everyone doesn’t have to scroll down through this one.

What this book presupposes is, maybe he didn't?
