Alright, let's try this again. Same pitchers.

Pujols isn't in the lineup again today, and isn't expected to be for the nightcap either. Colour me a bit concerned over just how long this injury is going to linger. Between he and Ankiel, the Cards are playing with an awfully short bench. I just really hope it doesn't come back to bite them in the ass.

Draft coverage is below.

What concerns me

A doubleheader featuring Parisi starting in one of the games. The ‘pen could be stretched even further than normal today and tonight. Hopefully Parisi does better when facing the decimated Nats lineup.

Puts pressure on Welly

It’d be best if he went 7 or 8 strong innings.

Still, if he can’t go long I’d believe Tony’s willing to use the bullpen to win this first game, get the series win, and just see if we get lucky in the second.

by enoscountry on Jun 5, 2008 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, we need a strong performance from the Colonel

Which he has been giving us as of late. Still, his control problems are a bit unsettling when dealt this type of hand and having him paired with a rook who is making his second ever big league start after getting shelled in his first.

by bgh on Jun 5, 2008 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions

wellemeyer’s may FIP was 3.75 if my fangraph crunching is correct, indicating that his may ERA of 2.19 was lucky. for personal correlation, compare his career 4.75 FIP against a 4.56 ERA. he ranks 25th in the NL in 2008 FIP, behind both lohse and wainwright. i still like what i’ve seen so far in 2008 much more than 2007, though, and i’ll always root for colonel shoulders!

Via RC/27, the lineup without Pujols (assuming Miles would not play today) costs us 0.9 runs.

Neat

There are only 5 people behind home plate.

Nice.

I have discovered in twenty years of moving around a ball park, that the knowledge of the game is usually in inverse proportion to the price of the seats. ~Bill Veeck

by bukowski on Jun 5, 2008 1:18 PM EDT reply actions

probably has something to do w/ the price

I understand those behind the plate seats are something like $350/seat (don’t quote me on the amount, but it’s something outlandish like that). There was an article in the Washington Post about it awhile back. The Nats seriously screwed up with their estimate of what DC folks would pay for those seats. I remember reading that they are more $$ than the equivalent seats at Fenway and Yankee stadium.

Joe Morgan: If you’re going to fire Willie, you’d have to fire Jim Leyland, John McLaren, Bud Black, and Ned Yost. The list could go on and on. Why is he the one being picked on when so many other teams are playing below their potential. Maybe Willie’s point of playing under more scrutiny is a valid one.

Mike Anderson

needs some time to repair what was a completely wrecked program. I like him, and I think once he starts getting his own guys things will be looking up.

The football program has been just a great surprise. I think signing Chase Daniels was huge for the program…and now, as we keep winning, we are starting to get some great players.

Now, if only I could have witnessed this 6 years ago.

It's alright

I think the ESPN anchors always call him “Daniels”. One of the guys on the RockMNation blog has a signature “Chance McDaniels for the Heisman”, playing on all of the mistakes in pronouncing his name.

Alright

Going to tonights game. Just curious, what do you think the lineup will look like. We don’t have a deep bench, but we also aren’t facing another lefty. Regardless I still hope to see some fireworks cuz with Parisi throwing… You never know.

by Pujols Is A God on Jun 5, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

funny...

i was sitting there thinking why remove welley? then i thought that pujols must’ve said “im going to hit a homerun if you put me in now.” then he hit one.

by longhornscardinals on Jun 5, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

Justin Smoak is still on the board..

He’s arguably the best power hitter in the draft—better than Hosmer, etc.

by KeepOnRolen on Jun 5, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

Hmm

The Pujols HR is awesome

But now we have to get 3 innings out of our bullpen with Parisi going tonight. Not sure it was the right call to yank Welley after 79 pitches…

Draft

-Castro is a reach, he was predicted to be 16-20
-Smoak is still on the board, he was supposed to go top 5
-Scheppers will be around after the first round. The injury will keep him out of the first 30 picks.
-Don’t take Lawrie. Anderson is currently hitting .350 in AAA.

by KeepOnRolen on Jun 5, 2008 3:08 PM EDT reply actions
