Rasmus heating up?
I was just checking out Rasmus' stats from the last 10 games and it looks like he is starting to heat up (.410, 16-39, 4 2b, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 9 BB, 9 SO however) and has spread it out over the 10 games (no 0-fers). Hopefully he stays hot and gets called up and performs like Jay Bruce... What a nice addition that would be... Too bad Mo will need to trade some people to open a spot for him.

Dont be dissapointed when none of that happens anytime soon…except Rasmus staying hot and learning to hit at the 3A level.

I see no reason
To rush our top prospect to the Majors this year.

It would be fun to watch Rasmus this year and cheer him on like all the other Memphis guys coming up, no doubt. I dont mind that it isnt so likely with the way things are currently rolling in the STL outfield, and thats not really such a bad thing.

that is definely not a bad thing
A whole season of AAA would do Rasmus no harm at all…and, as you say, if we don’t need him, why get his arbitration clock started before we really have to.

Rasmus call-up
I think that Rasmus will be called up this year sometime after August 1. This team will need an injection of adrenaline and I think Colby will be called up to provide it. He could be up earlier if the team moves an outfielder before the deadline.
Don’t let Colby’s slow start fool you. He is still one of the top 5 prospects in the game. None of our current outfielders should be considered a roadblock to Colby’s promotion.

I don't think he is top 5 in the game.....
But he is a good one.
That said, at what point does his slow start every season become a concern? Can’t plug a guy into the ML lineup that is going to hit .200 until June.

Rankings
Nearly every major ranking has Colby in the top 5. As to his slow starts, remember that he has moved up a level every year. So he is not necessarily slow to start the season, he is slow to start at each level.

I'd take
Andrew McCutchen, David Price, Matt Wieters over him. Over than that he’s right there.

Depends on who you consider a "prospect", but.....
It’s at least debatable:
Bruce
Longoria
Kershaw
Cueto
Porcello
Chamberlain
David Price
Could be others. I’m not saying Rasmus isn’t a darn fine spect, just saying, IMO, he isn’t a lock as a top 5 guy. Heck, the way Anderson is hitting in AAA so far, he MAY end up being the better player. Too early to tell.

I doubt we see colby before Aug 1 barring serious injury to ank or skip.

what if
Ank continues to tank and Colby goes on fire? Given Colby’s history of starting slow at the next level, I’d prefer he get over his next level gitters this season as opposed to next.

I agree with getting his jitters out of the way this year.
It has to come at a time when you can get him some consistent ABs, but it would be nice to get that out of the way at the end of the season. Granted, all of that depends on team performance. If they are still contending in September, then the team can’t really take chances playing games with a young prospect. They’ll need somebody who can contribute.
I don’t know about the point about Ankiel. I think we need Ankiel to develop into a valuable OF, but I think the expectations for him this year have been a little unrealistic. He is going to be streaky with the bat, but he needs time at the ML level to find his true stroke. His early success probably had us all a little overly excited about his potential.
It would be nice to see an OF next year of Mather, Ankiel, Rasmus, Ludwick, and … I still think Duncan and/or Skip get traded this year. After this year we can reevaluate Barton, and maybe we can find somebody else to fill in next year.

There's no way...
he gets called up prior to roster expansion in September, barring a trade that opens up spots in the OF. He could hit .500 for the next month and not get called up, there’s no way to open a spot up for him on the big league club without sending someone down—and no OF on the current roster is getting sent down either.

injury
There is always the possibility of an injury. Ankiel has trouble staying healthy. Any other team would have put Rick on the DL twice already this season instead of carry him when he can’t play for a block of days in a row. If Ankiel goes on the DL, they might bring up C. Duncan or it might be Rasmus, hard to say.
