20 games over .500
Chase numbers, not teams and we’ll be fine. 20 games over puts a lot of pressure on the cubbies, and if we lose the WC on the back of it, they’ve earned it. 20 games over is doable.

This is your
beleaguer GM, who got so much flack about his interview Friday, putting on another hand puppet for the ignorant. The Mulder move almost flamed him. It probably will tomorrow. The owners are pressuring Mulder and his agent, who clearly see it would be smart to stall past the deadline, which allows him 11mill or free agency and a new contract.

My posts in the last two days are “Pregnant”, with Information. It is the best I can offer…...... I’m used to playing to win. What your seeing from Management is not about winning, it about attempting to get into a public relations mode so they can begin a rebuild. The teams success has now become a embarrassing exposure of the GM’s true mandate, which is reclaiming some profits. This is coming all the way from the winter meetings. I feel sorry for MO,seems like a decent guy.

Read this, would you by insurance fron this guy
From my perspective, what his role will be this year is going to be left up to how he’s feeling, what he’s capable of doing and what makes the most sense for the organization and for Carp,” Mozeliak said. “How we make our decision for him is going to be based on what’s best for him, as well as what’s best for the organization.
“He just needs to keep doing what he’s doing and show that he’s healthy. We’ll then determine what we need to do as far as where we are with the Major League roster and what makes the most sense.”

That makes a lot of sense.
The bullpen is imploding, and the rotation has been amazingly stable. No reason to rush Carp back to full-time starting.
This path to wellness worked really well for Morris and Smoltz, too.

To add
Memphis won earlier.. but get this…
Do we have another Reyes on our hands? I mean, seriously.
Parisi goes down last time and pitches a CG and a 7 inning gem, comes back up and well… yanno.
Today?
7.2 innings, 2ER, 4H 2BB 5k.
One’s enough, but two…

plus Robinson is still swinging well even after transition, Jimenez has only allowed 5ER in over 30 innings pitched, and has a K-Mac-like lefty split. (gave up one ER in the past 11 innings of work, 10 shutout appearances) – I thought he sucked?
Barden and Freese had solid games as well.

those are the reasons why it is AAA
and not the majors. They have enough talent right now to almost dominate AAA, but still not good enough for the majors yet.
* sarcasm might be involved in this comment
Parisi
didn’t dominate AAA before his initial callup, it occurred because he was rested when the whole Izzy implosion happened where we needed.
Just odd, seemed to find a nice game in Memphis, and can’t find a strikezone here

ok dominate might be a strong word
it is odd how some people do really good at AAA and can’t make the leap, while others struggle and then jump right in up here and roll. Funny how talent works sometimes.
Baseball is an odd game.

Look at Albert's minor league stats
he looked good and solid, but he didn’t look like Albert when he was at AAA. I think his worst year at the MLB level still has better rate stats than the best of his short minor league career.

Back on the air. Sweet line on Todd. What are his strengths? Why not move Todd and Salas to Memphis . . .

Depends entirely on what the pitching coach says
If Springfield’s pitching coach feels that Todd has all the tools to suceed at the next level, then he should go. If not, then he should stay. Just because you own the competition at the current level doesn’t necessarily imply that you’re ready for the next level. Or at least, it doesn’t necessarily imply that you’re ready to flourish at the next level.
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

yeah
btw, check out this fascinating split:
Kosuke Fukudome
home 1.040 OPS,
away .634 OPS.
he’s had about the same number of at bats each way… the team as a whole has about a .162 point split the same way, with 61 home HR vs 31 away HR. Meanwhile, their pitching has somehow given up less home runs at home than on the road. That is just strange.
"If thats bad luck, lets DFA our luck away." -DriverZN
then again, it kind of makes sense
hit “post” too soon… anyway check out the number of “lucky home runs” that have been hit by cubs in wrigley so far this year…
if they don’t suffer a massive regression soon, the GOB really are on their side this year.
"If thats bad luck, lets DFA our luck away." -DriverZN
It's those damn baskets
that hang out into play. They don’t even need them anymore because they’ve added railing in some sections of the OF.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 30, 2008 3:22 AM EDT up reply actions
That graph is misleading
It makes it look like every home run goes into the basket. Very few actually do.
Fukodome’s stats home/away are certainly interesting – but look at the Cubs’ home and away winning percentages. They kill at home and barely stay alive away. Of course, the rest of the majors is doing that as well.
Don't look at the picture
look at the list below it. If it says JE/L, or PL/L, or ND/L, the second “L” means “lucky”. that means they calculated that it wouldn’t have been a home run if the wind didn’t blow it out.
The home and away team should have about the same number of those, but they don’t. That will regress.
