Game 82 Open Thread- 28th June, 2008

Boggs_mitchell_medium Davies_kyle_medium

Boggs                       Davies

         2-0, 5.40                   3-0, 3.12

Well, I suppose we'll get to see once again if the Cardinals can finally figure out a way to somehow scrape out a victory against the modern day equivalent of the 1927 Yankees, the 2008 Kansas City Royals. You know, there's something wrong with that sentence, I know, but I can't quite figure out what it is...

Last time the Cards faced Davies, just a little over a week ago, the results weren't pretty. 7 IP, 1 R, 5 H. Not so good. Let's hope that seeing him for the second time in such a limited time will give them a better idea of what to do against him this time around.

Pujols and Boggs will be the difference

Boggs needing the 7 runs of support and Pujols being the one to provide it.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2008 6:06 PM EDT   0 recs

Here's hoping. On paper the matchup does not look promising, however. Cards seem to mirror Duncan who seems to mirror the Cards recently. . .

mulder interview

Just saw Shannon’s interview with Mulder. He(mulder) seems like he’s in pretty good spirits and ready to pitch out of the bullpen. Hope he doesn’t get rocked!

On Mulder - which signing was more dubious? Mulder, Kennedy, Martinez?

FSN Midwest is killing me with these Jack Buck tributes

it’s really hard to watch that stuff

you have to have no soul to not get chocked up by them

I thought I saw that during the broadcast but they switched away so fast that I was not sure. Wonder what that was all about

so adam dunn just hit a scorching line drive home run off of paul bird

no big surprise i know

but in keeping with the theme of the wood picture, as he got to third, he spit his gum out into his hand & threw it into the stands.

classiness knows no bounds today

no apparent mention in the reds’ sbnation game thread – do you have a public source for this?

What's with the delay?

I thought this game was supposed to start 3 minutes ago?

by cloistermaximus on Jun 28, 2008 7:13 PM EDT   0 recs

GameDay says

“Delayed (ceremony)”, whatever that means.

by punditmoi on Jun 28, 2008 7:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

they are doing a ceremony for some royals guy.

a bunch of old players and stuff are speaking… its pretty boring. They are celebrate the royals. Part of it was a video of Bo Jackson talking amonst other former Royals greats

That was a real test," Soriano said of the play. "He didn’t call the ball, I didn’t call the ball, but I saw him close to the ball and I let him get the ball."

by Cardsfan_inCHI on Jun 28, 2008 7:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Just for the heck of it they should have George Brett, Frank White & Willie Wilson

play for an inning….hell we’ll even loan them Hal McRae back for a night…lord know we won’t miss him too much.

by KYCards on Jun 28, 2008 7:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i think FSN pushed it back so they could show the Cards

by gdm426 on Jun 28, 2008 7:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

art stewart was the scout who found bo jackson, johnny damon, carlos beltran and others.

by Bahamaredbird on Jun 28, 2008 7:49 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That's pretty worthy

I guess. None of those players, though, brought the Royals success.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2008 7:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Proof people don't care about the Midwest

Remy’s ceremony for Boston got the feed on Extra Innings to come on BEFORE the normal start time, as noted on bottom of schedule screen.

For the Royals? I’m staring at the schedule at 7:20 when the game should have already started.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2008 7:19 PM EDT   0 recs

you gotta get DTV EI dude

i hate DTV, but i love what they’ve done with EI

actually, the DTV keeps it's signal longer than my DISH Network

the same line came through here a few hours ago & we didn’t lose the signal. i thought you lived up near cleveland? there’s hardly any thing on the radar up there now

And the blackout lasts 5 minutes tops. DTV is the way to go.

I love, love, love, love

seeing Brendan Ryan in the lineup. Just makes me giddy, thinking about not having Kennedy in, or Miles at SS. So, BR, go ahead, prove to Tony that you can play every day!

by fuegophil on Jun 28, 2008 7:24 PM EDT   0 recs

I want to see Alex Gordon busted inside to night

I’m not advocating hitting the guy, because that would be stupid. But he’s clearly waaay to comfortable at the plate and needs to be backed off.

If we can get a lead,

I don’t mind hitting him. Nothing malicious, but let him know you think of his crap last night.

by fuegophil on Jun 28, 2008 7:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That isn't Larussa's way

He clearly states in 3 Nights in August that he never hits a guy, “Because he’s hitting good against us”

by cloistermaximus on Jun 28, 2008 7:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I remember that,

But I sure wouldn’t mind it. ;-)

Good grief

You’d think we could win just ONE game, like, on accident or something.

bad start

I do not like skip swinging at the first pitch, he needs to make the pitcher throw some before taking a hack

They say I look like yadier molina

by ANDYAK47 on Jun 28, 2008 7:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

skip is hitting .390 against first pitches over 82 ABs. i’ll take anything close to that!

Indeed

It knocked Pujols line drive back in the park. It looked gone off the bat.

by cloistermaximus on Jun 28, 2008 7:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Also, did the Royals really just induct a scout

into their HOF? Must have been a scout during the 70s and 80s because whoever was scouting in the 90s wasn’t doing so hot.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2008 7:37 PM EDT   0 recs

Well they did have Beltran, Dye, Damon, & others

but traded them away and didn’t get much for any of them, and never really had all of them at the same time.

by KYCards on Jun 28, 2008 7:39 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

They didn't draft Dye

Atlanta did and then inexplicably traded him away because of his 1996 Posteason performance.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2008 7:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Jesus, was Ryan playing on top of third base?

How the hell was there that much room to his right?

Where you can’t see where the ball is going in the strike zone. That’s entertaining.

FSN Detroit

was pretty bad, too, the other night. When Schumaker and Ankiel both hit their HRs in the top of the first, the camera wasn’t able to follow either ball.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.

by madding on Jun 28, 2008 7:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Like this CF camera

that starts at the plate on the left side and shows us a whole bunch of the crowd behind the hitter.

They almost get the pitcher in the shot.

by Hardcore Legend on Jun 28, 2008 7:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Did that announcer just yawn real big on air?

Almost as great as the camera work.

by TNTinCO on Jun 28, 2008 7:48 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes,

yes he did. Said something about ‘Yeah tell em Lou…”
