Ankiels mental makeup

really must be quite awful. Playoff pitching = loses his control , etc…
the hgh story breaks = forgets how to hit the ball
important at bats = strikes out every time

Someone needs to sit the guy down and teach him not to get so amped up. Hell, give him some xanax before he bats

by astrostl on Jun 22, 2008 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

are we going to go over reverse splits

just because Luddy does better against Righties doesn’t mean that a Righty pitcher isn’t better against Ludwick than Okajima. What’s Okajima’s split vs. this pitcher’s?

calm down

I just meant Luddy usually owns righties

* sarcasm might be involved in this comment

by mattyfrommo on Jun 22, 2008 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

hansen is .265 .355 .395 against RHB, .333 .384 .515 against LHB. for all intents and purposes, ludwick should count as a LHB so it would seem to be a significant mistake. okajima is .203 .255 .313 against RHB and .236 .289 .350 against LHB. better across the board, and a lower differential.

FIP > ERA, OBP > AVG

by astrostl on Jun 22, 2008 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i don't think that's right

from my look at it Righties kill Okajima much more than lefties, both in his career and this year.

by enoscountry on Jun 22, 2008 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

simple career splits by OPS

okajima: RHB hit .696, LHB hit .624
hansen: RHB hit .617, LHB hit .789

using these two pitchers, if it’s a RHB you want hansen and if it’s a LHB you want okajima.

ludwick: .870 against RHP, .756 against LHP

ludwick has a natural advantage against RHP. okajima (LHP) was replaced by hansen (RHP) to face ludwick. if one were to only consider ludwick’s reverse split, this would seem to be a big mistake. if his reverse split causes him to hit like a “LHB” against hansen, it’s even bigger. i shouldn’t assume that reverse hitter splits play that way into standard pitcher splits, though – i’ll see if i can find out whether he counts as a “RHB” or “LHB” from the other side.

We walked a runner in during the 8th. He walked a weak ass batter trying to get him to chase an outside corner pitch, which tends to be a double play ball.

Giving him a hard time doesn’t make too much since considering the entire context of this game.

BTW...

Isn’t the home team favored slightly when tied in extra innings? THe fan-graph has it at 50:50..

by duncans_army on Jun 22, 2008 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

historically it’s 0.657 for the home team in extra innings, no outs, bases empty, score tied.
