He was warm, either him or Perez since Franklin got killed yesterday.

It should be Perez

anyone else and I will turn on LaRussa

I can actually deal with Franklin, since he is the “closer”.

I want me some Chris Perez

Somehow INTERIM closer is a clearly defined role…

Given Howard's proclivity towards striking out

Um, because the fans want to see him? Because some folks (myself included) worship

the ground he walks on? He is most certainly not having an all star season, but I’d rather see his smiling face in the outfield at the all star game than anyone else. The manager can take care to add the true all star season players…..fan votes are popularity contests.

I love the kid but....

The winner of the All-star game gets homefield in the World Series. So each league should be field thier best players. Not the fan favorites.

If it didn’t count I wouldn’t have anything against just showing off the fan favorites.

wow, it never ceases to amaze me how a broadcast could have announcers who were such overwhelming homers. Hawk Harrelson is just waaay too obvious about the fact that he is a huge Sox fan. After a questionable call on Carlos Quentin, he starts screaming in the mic “This is pure bull! Pure bull!!!”

Yeah, it's odd

Not sure why they do it that way. You would think professionals would be able to handle those extra four innings…Speaking of handling innings, Clement is following up on Mulder’s fine work,

3 IP, no hits, 3Ks, no walks

I think the reasoning is

the pitchers. That is, the major league club does not want to see future arms over-taxed. Not necessarily the double-header itself, maybe, but what it might do to the following days’ schedule.
You are right that it certainly would not bother or affect the position players any, and they would probably love it.

7-inning doubleheaders

have been in place in the minor leagues for decades, long before anyone ever heard the term “pitch counts.” I want to say the first game is 7 innings, the second game the full 9, but I could be wrong. Right or wrong, for whatever reason, they have been around for ages.

but I agree, I wish Mather got some more at bats before we sent him down. FWIW Barden and Stavinoha also jacked dongs tonight.
