Post-Pujols lineups
Until The Great One is healthy and agile again, destroying high velocity spherical objects over walls, post your ideal Pujols-less lineup (was that a run-on sentence?). It makes things a lot more complicated in my opinion. But I guess TLR is pretty good at that type of stuff. Also, might as well do picks for a new starting rotation while we're at it. Here goes...
I'd like to see:
1. Schumaker/Ryan (LF, 2B)
2. Duncan/Mather (1B, LF)
3. Ludwick (RF)
4. Ankiel (CF)
5. Molina
6. Glaus
7. Barton/Ryan (CF, 2B)
8. P
9. Izturis/Miles
I'd like to see Miles be the new Spiezio (except we sure as hell don't need another outfielder) and fill in on rest days, with Brendan Ryan starting at second base. I kind of stole H.C. Legend's idea of putting Barton in center at times. Good idea! I too would like to see good to great speed in center field.
For starters, I'd hope to see Wellemeyer be our interim ace, with either Pineiro, Lohse, or Boggs (now that would be awesome) stepping up to be the Colonel's lieutenant. Looper seems to be picking up the slack after seeing a complete game tonight. That's a pro performance right there.
Well, get better Albert. And take care of that amazing middle finger AW. We need both of you guys. How crazy would it be to have you all come back with Carpenter around the same time? At this point, entirely a possibility. Should be a wild ride folks.

a silver lining
if it deserves that cliche… is that if Chris Duncan, filling in at 1b, doesn’t have to fret making a fool of himself in left-field, maybe he will find his stroke again. It can’t make up for the missing Pooh (no one could) but an RBI crew of Luddy, Ank, Glaus AND Dunc at least isn’t woeful ((see Seattle or SFGiants)).
And while I very much appreciate your thread question, line-up speculation is futile with Tony in charge. I DO think Luddy and Ankiel should stay 3-4 or 4-3 holes, but a manager who hit Kennedy in the 3 hole last week is capable of any outrage.

gonna go way out on a limb
and say: “you’ve never seen phelps play defense”...
Seriously, he is to 1B what cards fans think Duncan in to LF. Duncan is bad at 1B, but Phelps takes it to a whole new level. I’m amazed he couldn’t find a job with an AL team, cuz he can hit, but he isn’t an MLB player at first (and he can’t play anywhere else, apparently).

Ryan at 9 is best
Looking at these last two games, I think B. Ryan was bred to be in this 9-hole spot La Russa has constructed. He seemed to be on base everytime Ludwick came up, and (obviously) came around to score just about the same number of times.
Vs. Righties:
Schumaker-LF
Duncan-1B
Ludwick-RF
Ankiel-CF
Glaus-3B
Molina-C
Izturis-SS
Pitcher
Ryan-2B
Vs. Lefties
Barton-LF
Mather-1B
Ludwick-RF
Ankiel-CF
Glaus-3B
Molina-C
Izturis/Miles-SS
Pitcher
Ryan-2B
I do think that Shumaker may be seeing a lot of time vs. lefties; I’m not 100% confident about Barton in the leadoff spot either, but I definitely haven’t been disappointed by his play. I’m unsure if TLR is going to go to a platoon at 1B with Mather/Duncan, but Mather’s defense has to put him into consideration.
The Pink Elephant in this room is the lack of Kennedy in consideration. With Ryan sidelined, he got his reps, but now that he seems back and 100%, what do we do with him? Would anyone take him? Is he the next veteran to ride the DFA train?
With Izzy coming back, (fingers crossed) and these great young arms in the bullpen, do we consider going one bench player short if we did anything with him, given the versatility of Ryan/Miles/Mather/Izturis? It would only run to the All-Star break, and may be the best way to showcase trade bait. IMO, it won’t happen, but just putting that out there.
one last point—someone send a letter to Mozeliak telling him to put an offer for Holliday. i want to see that guy hitting behind Albert SOOOOOOOO badly.

you're right
Brendan Ryan does seem to be thriving at #9. that’s definitely working…
