| Looper | Cueto |
| 7-5, 4.86 | 5-5, 5.06 |
over his last 7 starts, looper has yielded a .351 / .399 / .509 line to opposing hitters. but so what? over that same span he's batting .500 / .600 / .583. . . . . too bad he can't hit off himself.
by now you've hard that albert probably won't appear again until after the all-star break. the cardinals have 30 games to play between now and then, beginning with tonight's.

OT: InBev is making a bid to buyout Anheuser-Busch today, will most likely be accepted.
Possibility that this could spell the end of A-B in St. Louis.

that's not what i'm hearing out of STL
i know people who know people at AB, and they say AB is going to fight it.
InBev doesn’t want a fight, so don’t count on AB being sold just yet.

Does anybody know
If Jay Bruce was a leadoff guy before getting called up? Seems wierd to give a new guy another responsibility this early. He was doing pretty good before the move.

Gut-Check Time
How do our Redbirds respond? Teams go in two directions when something like this happens:
-Morale drops and the team feels sorry for themselves. Negative result.
-Team comes together and says “we’re gonna hold this together until the big guns come back then we’re gonna kick some ass!” Positive result.

I wish it was anyone else on the mound, other than Looper
We need a victory today, for morale sake, and Looper lowers those chances exponentially.

Looper's OPS+ = 85
Looking at those other teams, he would be better than about 2 starters in their rotation. I still don’t think they’d want him. If they do, they can have him….for a price.

the real question might be
name 4 teams that would consider him one of their top 3 starters, which he is for us. Really considered our #2 going into this season.

I'm not too worried...
I had way too much time on my hands today, so I did a little number crunching….now this is not scientific, but it gives us a rough idea of how the Cards stand….
So far this season, WPA has been a pretty good statistic to describe the Cards. They have an average of .0909 WPA per game (i.e. a .5909 perdicted winning percentage), with an actual winning percentage (39-27) of .5909.
If you remove Pujols and Wainwright’s contributions (along with the others injured or sent to AAA) and spread the AB’s and IP among the remaining players, your average WPA for future games is .0026, a decrease of .09064. This lowers the Cardinals predicted home winning percentage to .527 and road winning percentage to .472.
If we use these numbers, average the winning percentage of the appropriate home and away records with the Cards and Cubs remaining schedules to the All-Star Break, it looks as follows:
Cards 14.24 – 15.76
Cubs 16.66 – 13.34
Granted, this assumes that the Cubs continue being cold on the road (and TB, CWS, etc. stay hot at home).....the numbers aren’t exact, but I don’t think we will get blown out of the water in the next month.

So, on any given night over the next 30 days:
1B – Duncan
2B – Ryan
LF – Mather
RF- Ludwick/Skippy
CF – Ankiel

Knew that one was coming
having to throw a fastball to a dead fastball hitter is painful for pitchers.
by Hardcore Legend on Jun 11, 2008 7:19 PM EDT 0 recs
that was actually a breaking pitch
that didn’t break much. Ankiel was sitting on it. Probably figured “he can’t get the fb over I bet he comes with a breaking pitch”

but last year, ankiel was much better against breaking balls than fastballs, going by the bornbybits data.
