I just don't like Mitch Boggs
The guy has one semi-decent pitch, a fairly crappy curveball, and a slider that must be worse than the curve ‘cause he never throws it. They should send him back to the Texas League and leave him there until he develops at least an average breaking pitch.
as long as he gets the job done
I don’t care how he does it

i would say he's got a plus fastball and an average curve
i agree about the third pitch, but since his fastball breaks in a couple different directions…he’s allright…i mean we aren’t expecting an ace…but he could be a solid 4 or even a 3
While I'll agree with duncan
He does need to refine his offspeed stuff. Which is why he was still in the minors. But I wouldn’t say I don’t like him just because the cardinals are bring him up a half(full?) season early.

Just to clarify....
I’m not rooting against Boggs, I just see him as something in between Marquis and Thompson. It’s not possible to be an effective starter with just a hard sinker, no matter the quality of that pitch. He might hang on as a AAAA guy or a long man, but that’s it. If you look at his record, he’s never dominated at any level. He only just gets by.

I’m sitting here watching my team in disarray from a pitching staff prospective. I’ll take a “5th starter” just getting by anyday of the week.
I don’t care for an ace, if he trainwrecks he’s disposable back to Memphis. But if he’s giving me 5 innings on 2 earned with that much movement and we can’t win those games, we need to go find a puppy to kick. For lack of a better reaction.

Without trying to be too optamistic
if this is a serious injury to AP it might give him time to get the elbow worked on also. If he is out only a month the team just need to play .500 ball till he gets back. It will also give Mather more plate appearences god forbid we have to suffer through the AP injury and watch Duncan fall all over himself at first. This is a big test for some of the younger players to see what thier made of. I’m not quite ready to throw in the towel on the season not with Carp coming back some of our young pitchers throwing well and possibly Clement making a return to the majors

You know...
We were pretty damn big dogs in Oct. ‘06, we walked into this season as huge dogs as well. I don’t wish anyone injuries let alone our own guys, but if anything this needs to send a signal that 12 over .500 doesn’t mean jack shit.
Our guys by design need to play a hard nine for 162 games.
For the most part they’ve done that, as a unit. If they continue they’ll mount pressure on the cubs. It may not be our year, but if there’s a secondary door prize it’s making Cubs feel us all the way til Oct and feeling the result in their campaign.
Injuries or not, we’re still there. We’ve been up against worse. Enjoy each game and let’s see where we go.
