A Great Article on Rick Ankiel....
... is here.
One of the things I liked about the article was how the organization displayed patience with a player whom everyone thought was washed up. This patience is one of the great attributes of the Cardinals' organization, and it is one of the prime reason we are cowsidered to be one of THE premier clubs in MLB. There are other players in this organization we need to apply this patience to (Mark Mudler comes to mind immediately); think about this the next time you're howling for the blood of one of our players because he made a mistake, or has had a few injuries. Don't cownt anyone out until they cownt themselves out.
Rah rah. sisboombah. That's the MooCow logic for today.

Don't mean to be a party pooper....
... but this is just the kind of FanPost —a link to an interesting article followed by a little bit of commentary -- that should probably be a FanShot instead. This is why SB Nation added the “FanShot” feature to the new platform - so people could post this sort of thing for the benefit of all VEB readers, w/out cluttering up the diary/”FanPost” section, which ought to be reserved for entries where the authors have put in a little more work on analysis or research. lboros made the distinction pretty clear in this entry a few weeks ago.
I don’t mean to single you out, MooCow—a lot of folks are doing this. I appreciate when people link to interesting stories like this; I just want people to use the FanShot feature instead.

So here's the question . . .
Do we try to give the guy an extension? I’m sure he’d love to stay in St. Louis, and even with Rasmus in the wings, he could be a solid RF for years to come. Do we give it a shot before he hits the FA market?

extension
Yea i think we have to. He’s a guy who’d probably take a bit of a paycut to stay with the team who has given him all kinds of chances, and he is looking to be a very solid hitter and defender. Plus i’m sure tony wouldn’t like to see him leave as long as he’s here.

I agree.
I definitely see us getting the best deal in the league for him.

I'm gonna
be upset if we don’t keep him. Sure, he’s streaky, but I like his defense, his awesome arm, and his power. Plus, he’s Rick freaking Ankiel. He’s a Cardinal.

See....
...this is why I posted this here: to generate some dialog. I think the club is gonna offer him a cowtract sometime this year, they won’t wait until he’s a FA. Can u imagine his gun in left field? An outfield of Rasmus, Ankiel, and Ludwick would be pretty spiffy IMO…

Well
For what it’s worth, you can comment and “generate some dialogue” on Fanshots, too.

quite as much dialogue

I doubt we will see any offer until after the All-Star Break.
I doubt Boras wants him to listen to anything yet, and I don’t think we want to offer anything based on a month’s results. His value to the team may also fluctuate depending on what Rasmus shows us.
Sounds like another wait and see. Though I admit the appeal in offering an extension. I’m sure that TLR will be in Ank’s corner in weighing in on the resigning.
