good chance of a rain delay today, but little chance of a rainout; it's cloudburst weather. whatever precipitation we get will be brief.
overflow thread programmed to open automatically about 2 hours into the game. i should be close to the field; look for me behind the cards' dugout.

Not scary to me
One HR all year, aided by wind. I’ll take my chances.

I think he was going with
The lots of balls hit into play and low strike out rate. Coors is a big field. They don’t have to leave the park to do damage. (Like the 8th inning last night.)
Fair enough
I’ll go with that, but we’re in a reasonable pitching matchup. I like Lohse here.

Interesting today. Yadi fifth. Barton 2nd, should be interesting!
I am the only/last Anthony Reyes fan!
"interesting" is a nice euphemism
probably going to need some help from the ryan, ak, iz2 set if they’re going to win this one. i’m not counting on lohse to put up 7 scoreless.

Um...Shouldn't Albert Rest?
I know Milwaukee has been playing poorly lately, but I think we need to win/split that series more than we need 3 here…
I'd say he was given the option
and declined.
Today very well could be a revenge game for Albert, no doubt he took last night on his shoulders

Glaus deserves quite a bit of credit on the second one, the block was perfect. And thank goodness that the ump was in perfect view on both occasions, should he not be it could have been two close calls.

Ahhh
So we throw him overboard when he sucks (which he’s going to do at times, he’s not what he was showing earlier and if anyone had even taken a cursory look at the peripheral numbers everyone would’ve known this), but good starts? Irrelevant! He’s sucking right now!
With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch
Don't you dare bring logic and reasonable expectations into this discussion
With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch
He's been consistently mediocre
some days, the balls find gloves and he’s efficiently awesome; other days they find holes and he sucks and is serving up meatballs.
He is what he is until he starts striking out more batters.
Rockies
sure are cashing in when they get runners on…wish we could do the same. I hate to sound too negative but after last night’s loss, I was thinking this could be the start of a skid for us while playing on the road.
The big fear: pitchers are going to try too hard because of the bullpen problems.
yep, a blown save loss followed by a blowout

And I awoke in California, far far from Spancilhill...
earned runs are a terrible metric
He walks 2, gives up 3 hits and comes away with a zero “earned runs”. Sometimes I think once a pitcher knows his “ER” for the inning are done, they relax and don’t care as much. I know that’s a harsh thing to say, but I said it.
the problem is
There’s just no good replacement for it….BP has all kinds of fancy statistics but nobody seems to use one like for hitting everybody uses VORP and Slash Stats. I like the Fair Run Average but that’s not defense independent and also based on the league average scoring matrix…I still think after 100+ years we just can’t know enough about pitching.
"How depressing is it being you? Would you equate it to being a lifelong Cubs fan?"

I think this is going to be a long day for all the pitchers....
on both teams. Patience at the plate will win the day. This ump strike zone is SMALL
yeah but...
what do you think of the strike zone?

Thats it for Lohse
He brought it with him today. He was to far forward from the first pitch. That doesn’t obscure the fact that these hitters needs help.

I think Franklin has had too many Franklins
With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch
at this point
we should all be so lucky

What is the deal with all the camera shots today?
they showed a duck, and now they’re just focusing on some cardinal hanging out in the pine trees.

Cy Young
a.k.a. Jorge De La Rosa has an ERA of less than half of what it was at the beginning of the day. Thank you, Cardinal offense.

Top of the lineup in the 6th...
hold ‘em here, put up a 3-spot in the 6th, then chip away to tie late, beat ‘em in extras…
That’s one semi-realistic, if overly hopeful scenario…

Got a meeting, but a couple of things
It’s clear to me that we need to ignore what the rest of the division is doing for a while. As far as I’m concerned we’re 2 games back, because we’ll need all of 91 wins to have a chance. So we should be looking at 10 games over .500 as the thing to strive against/beat.
We’re going to have days like this and coming off of last night, it was almost writing on the wall. Luddy still shines though.

during potential trade talks do not bring someone to the table who sucks against lefties. Teams are already biasing left handers against us and frankly, I don’t blame them. The last thing we need is to sign or trade for someone who can’t either.

agree with everything but the math.
91 wins for the year is 20 games above .500 (91-71). 10 games above .500 is 86-76.

streak lives!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still not impressed by this streak
It’d be worth it if it was a hitting streak. rolls eyes
With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch
we'll see how impressive it is
if and when he gets closer to 80 some games

Don't know if you caught it but that was a reference to this post by 'Youneverknow':
I hope the streak ends, periodI’m sick of hearing about it. Just something artificial about it. To think what a poor game he had last night, by his own admission, and yet the streak continues. Wow.
I’m not down on Albert. Not possible. Everything he does on the field demands your full attention. This streak just doesn’t do much for me. If it was a hitting streak, that would be different. It’s not.
With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch

That’d be a nice ironic twist from last night: awful starting pitching, nails work from the ‘pen.

don the rally caps.

if he doesn’t get a hit in his next at bat…
