I just had to....this is too funny (Astros)
ESPN recently released it's power rankings. Nothing too amazing or surprising in there, except this one little blip:
![]() |
18 | 17 | Astros | 13-16 | It's probably not a good thing when your closer leads the team in wins. |
I nearly fell out of bed laughing (i'd never thought about a closer potentially leading the team in wins, even a month into the season). Ouch. I'm sure all the prognosticators thought that might be us, and even though I only had us at 83 wins on the season, I'm glad we're not anywhere close to that!

ehh
houston has been heating up, tejada and berkman are mashin and hunter pence is heatin up. i’m more scared of houston than i am chicago, although not for any real logical reason, just because houston always seems to make a run at the end of every season and the cubs always seem to collapse.

They need more pitching
I don’t think they can be a serious threat unless their pitching improves.

I definitely would be scared of their lineup when they're hot
or when our pitcher is having a bad day. pretty brutal there. other than that, not much going for the team. I expect them to finish hovering around .500

Keep in mind the last time we played them
they had a massive runs per game, and they were on fire and had a sizable winning streak. Now we only took 2 out of 3, but we held them to very little runs.
What I’m saying is that we’ve already witnessed them hot, and we cooled them off the entire series. No fear in houston from me, I just want backe to keep talking shit to get El Hombre pissed.

It seams
most Cards fans have a hard feelings toward the Cubs. Not me. I really don’t care about them either way. I mean why have a rivalry with a team that doesn’t win. I know they lead in the all time record between the two clubs, but so what. Count the rings. On the other hand everything about the Astros bothers me. You name it: the buzzing sound. the fans, that stupid ass stadium. I don’t care if Grand Ma Bush is at the game and sits right behind the plate with her her hubby. I really can’t stand them!
Maybe it all started when we beat them in the regular season series, won the division and still had to play them in the playoffs. That was the first time when I had an adverse reaction to the wild card.

let me say this...
the hatred of the cubs starts with their obnoxious fans. While wearing Cardinals’ gear in houston, I’ve never been called names or threatened with bodily harm… in chicago, it happens without exception.
I'd rather my sister be a prostitute than my brother a Cub fan.

people in houston
you know as well as I do, a lot of the inhabitants of houston are not from houston. not sayin most, just a lot.
and yes, they are very fair weather. just last night, my roommate (“die hard astros fan”) was watching the astros game and made the remarks; “I dont even know who half of these guys are, wheres Phil Garner? Whos this new coach they have? Who is Tow..les?”
Wow. this in no way speaks for all astros “fans”, just the ones I know… sorta
C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

I get the Cub fans
are jack asses all the more reason to just ignore them. Redsox fans are the ones I run into and once they know I am from NY the figure I am a Yankee fan. Then they start in with the whole Yankees suck, and all they do is prove that the New Englander has no class.

I don't really have hard feelings towards them
since I usually like underdog teams. so by that definition, they should be my favorite, heh.

it's amazing....
how a thread evolves from the particular topic posted :) touche. Just found it interesting w/the likes of a Roy Oswalt on the staff that their closer has or nearly has as many wins as anyone else on the team. very impressive.
