Izzy looks so much better

when he uses his PLUS pitches for strikes.

He may have the best curve on the team

Or a close 2nd to Wainwright. Anyway, should use it more.

by DriverZn on May 5, 2008 11:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

so did anyone else notice...

the Colorado Triceratops fucking with Izzy the whole inning?

is that normal? FTH?

right behind homeplate

the rockies mascot

was parked in the front getting up and down, spinning his head around, and waving his hands and belly at Izzy, for like the entire inning

I thought you means someone was audibly screaming like a triceratops the whole time or something

by jealousblues on May 6, 2008 12:04 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah I noticed it

At first I was like; wth do they have a Triceratops as a mascot for. That makes no sense.

Then I was like; wth is it doing out there trying to mess with our closer. Does Fredbird do that crap?

by Evilfrog on May 6, 2008 8:51 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah, I thought it was ignorant...and just odd.

I assume its because of Dinosaur national park or whatever in Colorado?

Did Albert get hurt on that slide?

He was limping after the game

by thoran85 on May 5, 2008 11:59 PM EDT   0 recs

looked like he got hurt diving back into second on the pickoff attempt before that play.

This team is fun to watch!

Except for Duncan’s D.

team to watch so far. It seems like they enjoy the game so much more this year than last. I just hope somebody needs a 15 day rest so we can get a fresh reliever up here tomorrow.

I'm not sure I like that dartboard

Tampa Bay with 97 wins? I understan they’re getting better, but sheesh. Don’t think the Braves will come close to 91, either.

Just read the “how the team’s played so far” caveat. Still, I don’t think Tampa has played the 5th-best baseball in the majors.

by SleepyCA on May 6, 2008 1:38 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I picked the Rays to win the AL East

Kazmir has JUST gotten back from the DL and the Red Sox pitching isn’t as good as their results have shown this early in the year.

The Rays have a very good shot at winning the AL East….until the Red Sox make a trade at the deadline for some future HOF’er in a small market.

other than Boston & NY. I’m sick of BOTH teams. I am still pissed that the Indians choked in the ALCS last year.

Does Duncan have any options left??

A trip to AAA might be good for him. Let him mash a little bit and get to the point where he feels good about himself. We need him to mash. If he is hitting homers and we can get Glaus and Ankiel to be consistent, then we have 4 big time power hitters with 2 from each side.

by coachnick39 on May 6, 2008 12:06 AM EDT   0 recs

As far as I can tell

we’re facing lefties the rest of this series so it looks like Duncan will get limited time as it is, so hopefully he can start looking for his swing in the BP sessions.

by punchinjudy on May 6, 2008 12:11 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Hell if I know. If anything I’d say that the platoon situation isn’t working out that well for him as it is anyone else in the outfield. That being said we still have glaus like 0-20 or something and rick hasn’t done anything significant since the day off. Yet, we’re 3 out of 4 despite all of that.

Miss half a season to injury

And then not play most of spring training.

by Evilfrog on May 6, 2008 8:53 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I have been a supporter of his

since the old staduim, and I would rather see him go back to being more aggressive. He has and always will strike out alot. But when he’s going well, they are aggressive k’s. He’s up there hacking. His power is valuable to us. The shortened swing has to go away. He is a guy that lets stuff hang over his head. When he’s not hitting, he probably takes that to the field and results in fielding mistakes. We have 3 lefties in a row, hopefully Hal or Walker can take him aside and get him to regain his aggressiveness.

The only one who liked the Cardinals so much he became a St. Louis Cardinals football fan.

by coachnick39 on May 6, 2008 12:16 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yes. One option remaining.

but the guy has a .400 OBP, and before tonight was playing very good defense- by RZR, he’s been second among LF’s with more than 75 innings in the field. Only Eric Byrnes has been better, and he would be a CF for any other team. And as a team, we’ve had the second-best OF by RZR in MLB, even with him out there almost every game.

Much as I want to see 5 PA’s by ludwick every day, duncan’s defense isn’t the big deal we’re making it out to be, and the guy has a demonstrated ability to crush the ball.

And I awoke in California, far far from Spancilhill...

by SleepyCA on May 6, 2008 12:14 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

just think he needs that moment

be it a homer, or a big game to get his confidence going. He showed last year that when he’s going right, he can help carry this offense. Lets not forget how good he was before the sports hernia.

by punchinjudy on May 6, 2008 12:19 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

But if Ludwick can match the offsense

The the defense is a bonus. Really, how much difference is there between the two of them as a hitter? They profile out pretty similar.

by DriverZn on May 6, 2008 12:19 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I believe Duncan

has a higher ceiling than Ludwick. Luddy, for all the good he brings, has more holes in his swing. He’s older, and frankly it’s hard to say that he is better athletically. Other than for us, a left-handed hitter with his pop is hard to come by. If we are gonna be as good as we can, it’ll be with Duncan being a major contributor. Not to take anything away from Luddy. We need him too

Did anyone else

notice that Larry Walker was dressed on the bench for Game 33? He’s a nut about that #.

Sorry if this was already mentioned.

by spants on May 6, 2008 12:10 AM EDT   0 recs

I'm soo excited that we have Larry back on the team

regardless if its on the bench. He was an instant favorite of mine as soon as he donned the BOB. I have a McFarlane of his that I’m going to try to get auto’d when they come to Houston.

Great game CARDS!

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

by yer dog first on May 6, 2008 12:23 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

Larry Walker is awesome. I always liked his batting stance.

Troy Glaus’s batter’s ditty always reminds me of Larry. Even though he wasn’t here long, it was long enough to make a major impression on me.

Awwww...in awe?

....that makes old HCL wrong about most of the outfield (with the noted exception of Barton) or Miles, or dread I say Izturis (playing grade A defense), no one is currently filling out applications to be carry out boys at Schucks

......and not to mention that Looper is still a starter and has not turned into a pumpkin…yet!.....nor has Duncan clandestinely attempted to ruin the careers of any OTHER pitchers as you contend he has with Reyes. Hmmm….?

Dont these guys know they’re no good!

In essence, you being wrong about so many players can only mean one thing…the Cards are playing good baseball, so there is a bright side to being a Negative Nancy…

Yes I know all about small samples, revert to the norm, empty BA’s, etc. just had to say this after reading all your preseason doom and gloom predictions…..BTW, tear it up Skippy!! : )
