This is how you beat the Pirates
Make them play defense. That’s how the Cubs have racked 10 wins against them

Studwick can’t let Puj have more than him

I Told you Tyler Yates was no good
I’ve seen him come into a lot of close games, and when he leaves it isn’t close any more. Granted, his D let him down tonight.

Monday.
A lot of that isn’t his fault, though. Bad roster decisions, injuries, overconfidence (fans and franchise). The manager takes the fall for a lot of mistakes made by others.

The Cardinal's Classic Moments commercials get me every time
I walk away, come back, and hear Shannon yelling “get up, get up, get up!” I immediately drop everything in my arms, start jumping up and down, and then hear. “That’s a walk off homerun for Jimmy! Go wild folks! Go wild!” Then I kick the radio and swear and Edmonds for being a Cub.
less dunca(i)n', more ludwickin'
Springer, maybe?
If they go 1-2-3 in the 8th, I’d be tempted to let Spring try for another inning. Don’t think Dunc and TLR will do it that way, though. Better, of course, would be a 3-run 8th so that his spot does come and go, in which case Miles can pitch the 9th.

yadi
ground rule double, about the only way he can get to second on his own
i take your signatures and use them as away messages
Yadi = most improved offensive player
even more than Ludwick., Yadi’s hitting has been a surprise this year.
for those watching on gameday
yadi had a big lead off second, grit took a huge swing (and missed), and the Pirates catcher tried to throw to second to pick off Yadi, but had to pull back because grit was in the way. Home plate umpire called interfance on Miles to end the inning.
But I didn't see the damn interference
I watched the play, but I didn’t see any interference at all.
That'll send gameday
into the tank until about this time tomorrow…

Carlos Silva
How glad is everyone that we didn’t get anywhere near this guy in the off-season?
2/3 IP, 6 H, 6 ER
Miles interfered
Miles interfered with the catchers’ throw to second to pick off Molina, for you gameday guys.
Well Miles and Kennedy certainly distinguished themselves with thier ABs today

I proposed a while back that we should have such a thing as a "quality save" to
distinguish from what we just saw. Which also counts as a save. Perhaps we could create a different save category for franklins perfomance. Call it a “borkowski”? What do you think?
"bork save"?

Down on the Farm - AA
Jesse Todd threw another gem: 7 ip 1 hit 1 bb 2 K’s 0ER
His ERA is now at a microscopic 0.71!
Fernando Salas got the save pitching 1.1 innings and striking out 3. These two guys are at the top of my personal “watch list.”
How long until Todd gets the call to Memphis?
Proud President of the Unofficial Skip Schumaker Fan Club!
I don't care about your fantasy team.
so is that now
51 K’s, in 30.1 IP for salas? With 8 walks? That is incredible.

he only has 4 starts in AA
and he appeared in 7 games with the piggy back system before that
I say he stays in AA this year but may be ready for memphis next season if he keeps this up
Did Lohse throw Mather's first hit
into the stands?

somebody in the game thread
said that he did a switcharoo, and kept the real ball, while tossing another one to the fans
"Give a man a fire, and he’ll be warm for a night. Set him on fire and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life."
Could it be?
...that we might actuall have a kind-of regular line-up of Ryan at second base (loved the way he turned that dp last night, plus he can run, plus he can hit in the lead-off spot), and an outifeld of Ludwick-Ankiel-Mather (with Barton spelling Ankiel every now and then and Schumaker being a reliever for all)?
We have three 15 game winners in the making—Wainwright, Lohse and Wellemeyer. I really think Parisi will prove to be better than both Pineiro and Looper, and Carpenter could be be back by August 1.
Things beginning to look good, as we sit 10 games over .500

Yahoo box score shows Mather as 0 for 0
but he has an RBI single… is this just a Yahoo screw up?
