Monday.

A lot of that isn’t his fault, though. Bad roster decisions, injuries, overconfidence (fans and franchise). The manager takes the fall for a lot of mistakes made by others.

The Cardinal's Classic Moments commercials get me every time

I walk away, come back, and hear Shannon yelling “get up, get up, get up!” I immediately drop everything in my arms, start jumping up and down, and then hear. “That’s a walk off homerun for Jimmy! Go wild folks! Go wild!” Then I kick the radio and swear and Edmonds for being a Cub.

Springer, maybe?

If they go 1-2-3 in the 8th, I’d be tempted to let Spring try for another inning. Don’t think Dunc and TLR will do it that way, though. Better, of course, would be a 3-run 8th so that his spot does come and go, in which case Miles can pitch the 9th.

Yadi = most improved offensive player

even more than Ludwick., Yadi’s hitting has been a surprise this year.

by gocards62 on May 30, 2008 10:38 PM EDT reply actions

for those watching on gameday

yadi had a big lead off second, grit took a huge swing (and missed), and the Pirates catcher tried to throw to second to pick off Yadi, but had to pull back because grit was in the way. Home plate umpire called interfance on Miles to end the inning.

by gocards62 on May 30, 2008 10:56 PM EDT reply actions

I proposed a while back that we should have such a thing as a "quality save" to

distinguish from what we just saw. Which also counts as a save. Perhaps we could create a different save category for franklins perfomance. Call it a “borkowski”? What do you think?

by tom s. on May 30, 2008 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

wasn’t pretty but the result is the same.

Down on the Farm - AA

Jesse Todd threw another gem: 7 ip 1 hit 1 bb 2 K’s 0ER

His ERA is now at a microscopic 0.71!

Fernando Salas got the save pitching 1.1 innings and striking out 3. These two guys are at the top of my personal “watch list.”

How long until Todd gets the call to Memphis?

by BigMOman on May 31, 2008 1:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Could it be?

...that we might actuall have a kind-of regular line-up of Ryan at second base (loved the way he turned that dp last night, plus he can run, plus he can hit in the lead-off spot), and an outifeld of Ludwick-Ankiel-Mather (with Barton spelling Ankiel every now and then and Schumaker being a reliever for all)?

We have three 15 game winners in the making—Wainwright, Lohse and Wellemeyer. I really think Parisi will prove to be better than both Pineiro and Looper, and Carpenter could be be back by August 1.

Things beginning to look good, as we sit 10 games over .500
