Strike 1 to Pujols was about as generous of a call as I've ever seen
It was about 2 feet off the plate

Is it just me
or does everyone seem to pitch Albert the same way—down and out, paint that corner, and hope you get a bunch of lucky calls.
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
Would you try anything else?
If you miss by 2 inches on the inner half it’s in the seats, if it’s up on the outer half he drills it down the line.

Or TLR could just go with a lineup similar to this against righties.
But that’ll never happen.

Substitute Barton for Skip, mix in a lil Miles every once and a while
And we’re good.
Now someone just needs to convince TLR.
We face lefty's in 4 of the next 6 games
so hopefully we keep this up.

but maybe not 60 games shorter. The better team wins 80-90% of the time, somewhat like football. Hockey & baseball, on the other hand, need the long season.

I wouldn't mind a
2-2-1-1-1 format, but a 2-2-1-1 format has the ability to be tied ;)
My biggest gripe is home field advantage should be determined by regular season record for each post season series.
ONLY if there are no additional off days
I HATE off days in the playoffs. As is, it lets topheavy teams hide the warts in their rotation, by hiding their weakest starters. If you added one or two more travel days, along with the consequent off days, you’ll just basically see the teams with the best 1-2 starters winning over and over
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
what my gripe is is that the NBAs officiating in the playoffs can be brutal
and it’s supposed to be their best guys. an occasional time a bad call is ok but at times they really suck. and im not just talking about that bad call last nigth there are entire games that are bad with the home team usually gettting the call
and i love the way espn calls it if thats Kobe bryant he gets that call but if hes brett rarry or a scrub he doesnt…a foul is a foul and a strike is a strike or at least i thought it was…it makes me appreciate baseball more
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2

Totally Agree
I watched pretty much the whole Utah series and it was difficult just to watch it.
Seriously, difficult to keep my eyes on the TV it was so bad, especially with Kobe.
They have to get a handle on the refs in the NBA. It is out of control.
This is what kind of made me stop watching basketball
I just coulldn’t watching Shaq win game after game for the Lakers by elbowing people in the face, slam dunking, and then running down court with this giant smile on his face.

Oh, watch with my EYES...
I had this whole “viewing” thing all backwards…and I don’t want to get into any further detail.
I would
Pretty much believe anything that guy has to say as well. God I love to hear him call a game. It is one of the few places the Cards go where I prefer to listen to the opposition’s announcer.
The anecdotes he has
are as numerous as they are engaging. I mean, he has something interesting to say about every player on both teams. There’s really nothing like hearing him call a game.
I was wondering if it is more of a bite or a lick
but I think it is more a lipping of his shoulder. I’ve never actually seen his tongue… but then again I watch on mlbtv and not HD.

Ludwick's Crazy BABIP splits
.509 vs RHP
.171 vs LHP
What in the world could cause that great of a BABIP difference?
HR totals are about even
this year he has one less HR vs LHP is about 2/3 the ABs, for his career he has 3 HR less vs LHP at slightly over half the ABs, so his power is there but his 2bs and triples completely disappear, that tells me he must be a very predictable player vs LHP (pull hitter or something) and the defense can play him almost perfectly.
even more cool

I betchya he at least starts out the 9th
Tony likes letting his guys get a chance at the CG
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
But why get them both up?
In a game where we are up 5 with 2 out and runners only on 1st and second?
Overkill and now Tony is going to be tempted to let Springer finish it off.
Waino @ 110
if I was the manager, I’d ask him if he’s ready to come out. If he says no, he stays in, but if anybody reaches in the 9th, or if he labors, he comes out. I have the guy out there warming up just in case….
No way.
Pull him now.
This is not about stats it is about wins and making the playoffs.
Giving Wainwright the 9th is purely about stats, if you ask me.
I think it's more about the fact that
Wainwright is the ace of the staff. Even if Carp comes back right now he’d have to earn the #1 job back. If the guy is pitching that well, why not let him take a shot at it?
Halladay’s already thrown 4 CGs…..if he’s got gas left in the tank, may as well let him try….
Halladay's arm
is just a different kind of beast.
* sarcasm might be involved in this comment
by mattyfrommo on May 28, 2008 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions
We are not
the Bluejays.
We win and make playoffs and to do that you need fresh pitchers late in the season.
Those are
just labels that are thrown around. Wainwright is the “ace,” yes, but to be an ace you don’t have to throw a CG every time out. WIth a five run lead and ADAM laboring in his last inning, there was no need for him to pitch the ninth for a stat.
Also, Roy Halladay throwing CGs has nothing to do with Wainwright. That’s like saying, well, Albert has 12 HR, so Prince Fielder should too.
I agree
but I don’t think that’s how Tony’s going to play this one. Let’s see.
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
And Dunc's on deck
Good job, Mr. Wainwright
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
I am starting to think that as well
His OBP is up but he just isn’t seeing the ball, just do a mather/duncan swap that gives the big league club a boost while giving dunc some regular ABs, I really like Dunc and want him to put it together
DUNK has no idea what he's doing
he swings at two pitches in the dirt, and looks at one that he should have fouled off.
in his defense, that last pitch was a ball

Any news on Mark Mulder?
His 10 days are up and I believe he was supposed to throw on May 26th. I don’t remember reading anything from that bullpen session about his arm. He should be going back out on a rehab assignment if he didn’t suffer another setback.

Any linkage on that?
LaRussa just said 3 days ago he expected Mulder back.

Nevermind, I found it
Joe Strauss: Mulder’s status is in serious question. His latest setback has to be considered more than a mere speed bump. Dave Duncan allowed on a morning sports talk show (The Morning After – 1380) that Mulder may have pitched his last major league game.

After reading the actual transcript
it doesn’t really seem that Dave was saying Mark is done. He is complaining of not being able to get his arm slot right and getting control over it, which is a serious problem..of course. But Dave says that they can make attempts to ‘adjust’ if he can’t get his normal armslot back.

well, as long as they make him prove himself
before he pitches in the big leagues. And I mean prove himself like Mitchell Boggs and Jaime Garcia have to prove themselves.

Isn't that what dave said before Marks first surgery?
Seriously, does Dave have anything in his book other than Mark needs a new arm slot. Its been the same story every time.
1: MM fails to get hitters out
2: Duncan tries to change his arm slot
3: MM has an operation.
4: goto #1
Christ, Just got on line
looks like AW had a hell of a game. Which trade more one-sided? Harren and the farm system for Mulder, or the trade that fetched us AW and some servicable parts for the privilege of unloading J DL Drew?
Haren
our farm system has been slowly recovering from that little “shenanigan”. Though, I am very happy with the return we got for Mr. Drew.
ADAM rocks!
C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!
