Is it just me

or does everyone seem to pitch Albert the same way—down and out, paint that corner, and hope you get a bunch of lucky calls.

Would you try anything else?

If you miss by 2 inches on the inner half it’s in the seats, if it’s up on the outer half he drills it down the line.

Actually, It's kinda just surprising that they're THAT predictable

before too much longer, he’s just going to start taking it the other way all day for doubles.

I cant stand the NBA's setup

It drags on waaaaaaay too long.

of course, I think the NBA season takes 60 games too long anyway.

by yer dog first on May 28, 2008 9:49 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

but maybe not 60 games shorter. The better team wins 80-90% of the time, somewhat like football. Hockey & baseball, on the other hand, need the long season.

by TheBirds on May 28, 2008 9:50 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I wouldn't mind a

2-2-1-1-1 format, but a 2-2-1-1 format has the ability to be tied ;)

My biggest gripe is home field advantage should be determined by regular season record for each post season series.

by StLHugo on May 28, 2008 9:52 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

how about

let the team with the higher seed determine the format?

by nota bene on May 28, 2008 9:55 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ONLY if there are no additional off days

I HATE off days in the playoffs. As is, it lets topheavy teams hide the warts in their rotation, by hiding their weakest starters. If you added one or two more travel days, along with the consequent off days, you’ll just basically see the teams with the best 1-2 starters winning over and over

They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

by Valatan on May 28, 2008 9:57 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

what my gripe is is that the NBAs officiating in the playoffs can be brutal

and it’s supposed to be their best guys. an occasional time a bad call is ok but at times they really suck. and im not just talking about that bad call last nigth there are entire games that are bad with the home team usually gettting the call

and i love the way espn calls it if thats Kobe bryant he gets that call but if hes brett rarry or a scrub he doesnt…a foul is a foul and a strike is a strike or at least i thought it was…it makes me appreciate baseball more

I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2

by punchinjudy on May 28, 2008 10:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Totally Agree

I watched pretty much the whole Utah series and it was difficult just to watch it.

Seriously, difficult to keep my eyes on the TV it was so bad, especially with Kobe.

They have to get a handle on the refs in the NBA. It is out of control.

I wonder if he’s picking up the ball at all?

by gocards62 on May 28, 2008 10:03 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

HR totals are about even

this year he has one less HR vs LHP is about 2/3 the ABs, for his career he has 3 HR less vs LHP at slightly over half the ABs, so his power is there but his 2bs and triples completely disappear, that tells me he must be a very predictable player vs LHP (pull hitter or something) and the defense can play him almost perfectly.

by Egyptian on May 28, 2008 10:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think it's more about the fact that

Wainwright is the ace of the staff. Even if Carp comes back right now he’d have to earn the #1 job back. If the guy is pitching that well, why not let him take a shot at it?

Halladay’s already thrown 4 CGs…..if he’s got gas left in the tank, may as well let him try….

by nota bene on May 28, 2008 10:34 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We are not

the Bluejays.

We win and make playoffs and to do that you need fresh pitchers late in the season.

by Egyptian on May 28, 2008 10:32 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Those are

just labels that are thrown around. Wainwright is the “ace,” yes, but to be an ace you don’t have to throw a CG every time out. WIth a five run lead and ADAM laboring in his last inning, there was no need for him to pitch the ninth for a stat.

Also, Roy Halladay throwing CGs has nothing to do with Wainwright. That’s like saying, well, Albert has 12 HR, so Prince Fielder should too.

yeah

I have a bad feeling about it right now, though. When i see him swing I think of Morgan Ensberg in his last bit with the astros, after he lost his power…

They need to send him to extended spring training for a week or two to do nothing but to work on strike zone judgment, then let him pound on A ballers for a while.

i wouldn't say it's hating

more like we are all aggravated by his continued stubbornness.

i would venture to guess we “hate” on TRL a lot less than other teams “hate” on their manager.

I'm not a TLR hater...

but there has been a very noticeable decline in his reputation in the past 3 years, despite all the wins. I read a column this week at Baseball Prospectus where the last sentence basically called out TLR for his use of pitchers and anyone who followed his methods.

I thought that was a bit extreme.

I would bet on Schumaker and Kennedy getting the nod. That’s just depressing after seeing the life BB and Ryan bring when they play.

by iwannarock24 on May 28, 2008 10:44 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i bet the lineup tomorrow looks like this

schumaker 8
duncan 7
pujols 3
glaus 5
kennedy 4
larue 2
barton 9
lohse 1
iz2 6

if only because i’m going.

by stlcardinalsfang on May 28, 2008 10:45 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ludwick will be in

TLR has said that Ludwick will play the rest of the homestand.

My guess:
Schumaker LF
Kennedy/Ryan 2B/SS
Pujols 1B
Ludwick RF
Glaus 3B
Ankiel CF
Molina C
Lohse P
Miles SS/2B

by StLHugo on May 28, 2008 10:47 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ugh--you're joking?

that’s three guys who can’t hit their weight (AK, Larue, Iz2 from the left side). Throw in DUncan and Glaus, and they’re only four hitter there. And Lohse’s not much
