Duncan's OPS is .749 and TLR is a genius!
Brilliant. TLR is brilliant. He must be. He some how has been able to justify to himself for over a month now that Ludwick has to sit regularly against righties so that Duncan can play. Ludwick is hitting the ball like one of the 5 best hitters in baseball but he has now sat out 2 of the last 3 games while the team also had 2 off days in the same week of games.
Maybe TLR can justify a reason to bench him tomorrow. Like.....the 2 Ks he had in 4 ABs that Ludwick has ever had on a Wednesday game after a Tuesday dinner of medium well steak and a backed potato. Better play those odds, they dont look good for Luddy!
Maybe then if TLR is lucky he can sit Ludwick just enough that he fucking losses his timing a little and his OPS will drop to Matt Holliday levels instead of Pujols levels. Surely at that point playing Duncan (or really any of our other OFs) in place of Luddy will actually make sense.
Maybe Schu can have another game winning hit sometime in June so that we might be able to overlook the fact that he has a .740 OPS but gets to start everyday because he's the only player in the Cards organization capable of "leading off."
Maybe all other managers and all other baseball fans are just idiots. I personnally would think there would be a way to play Ludwick everyday and just rotate which of the other OFs sits. But I am not a genius like TLR so I am not capable of understanding his brilliant logic.
TLR you are brilliant. You are the sole manager in baseball with the ability to dig deep in to those splits, especially the tiny little ones made up of 4 or 5 ABs, and realize that the bench is the best place for Ludwick to be to help our Cards win games. For a moment tonight i almost thought Luddy might hit his 14 HR of the season but his bat couldnt quit reach the outside corner while SITTING ON THE BENCH! Must be Luddy's fault not yours, next time he just needs to use a longer bat.

well, the good news is
there’s a soft-tossing lefty going tomorrow, so Luddy will probably start. Of course, Luddy was 0 for 3 with 3 K’s against him earlier this year, so who knows…

Not to defend Duncan, exactly...
but let me point out that Skip’s OPS is even lower, now at .740.
The difference is, and why Skip should sit (IMHO) is that Skip’s OPS is pretty much at his career level, while Duncan is about 100 points lower. Duncan has more potential than Skip, who is essentially So Taguchi.

I agree on benching skip
Skip has come back to earth and TLR hasn’t noticed.
My everday lineup:
Ryan/Miles
Duncan
Pujols
Ludwick
Ankiel
Glaus
Molina
Pitcher
Izturis/Kennedy

Yes.....
TLR sucks. We should fire him immediately. Blah, blah, blah.

this was ment
only as a humerous sarcastic rant to vent my frustration over Ludwick being benched again last night. I’m not saying fire TLR or that he sucks. He does make some very hard to justify decisions sometimes though. btw, im a fellow sooner.

I sense some frustration
with Ludwick sitting so Duncan can continue his slide to below-Izturis levels. Since the surprise showing of 2006 some of us have been lobbying for the trade of Duncan (and Reyes). They both are now approaching worthless. It was clear (at least to some) that Duncan was strictly an AL player. Nothing against him personally, but the only place you might be able to hide him defensively is at first, and he isn’t going to play there in StL unless Albert gets hurt, in which case we’re down the tubes anyway. Both situations have been handled poorly- and this not second guessing, it was stated to years ago.

The big problem ...
Is starting Skip pretty much every day in a corner outfield spot because we have to have a “leadoff” hitter. Skip is serviceable if he is in his proper role (4th/5th outfielder on a team that is righty-heavy in the outfield) but here he is woefully miscast. Personally, I would trade Skip for whatever we can get, call up Mather, and roll with the following:
Glaus
Mather/Duncan platoon
Albert
Ludwick
Ankiel
Molina
random Tony 2B choice of the day
P
crappy Tony SS choice of the day

You'd hit Glaus leadoff?
Seriously?

Why not?
He’s putting up a nice OBP, isn’t hitting homers himself, and you don’t need much speed to trot around the bases after Albert or Ludwick jacks one out of the park.

maybe
ryan/miles
iz2
albert
ludwick/ankiel
glaus/duncan
yaddi
pitcher (yea ninth, like would have been nice in the first inning today)
give the subs regular position assignments and let the team play. i truly believe tlr’s constant tinkering makes him feel like he’s really in charge and making a difference, but i think defense improves if players have limited responsibilities, just like pitchers.
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!

we are about ready to face a string of leftings
Duncan had a good game a few days ago. If he wasn’t in the lineup yesturday it would be close to a week snice his last appearence that he cracks the lineup.

and your point is?
nothing says he must play. You play the best player and that is Ludwick.

Why make room for Duncan
Often times teams will put up with a cold bat bcause of something else he can do, but can Duncan run? NO. Is he a good defender? Don’t even answer. We’ve seen that he can be a good hitter but it’s not right now. Platooning Duncan and Ludwick is stupid for two reasons. First, playing every 2 or 3 games does not give you enough at bats to work out of a slump, so if we’re counting on Duncan to be good at some point again he needs to go to AAA and get some consistent playing time to get fixed. Two, I don’t think that Ryan Ludwick is goping to keep his current pace going all year ( I hope he does, but I doubt it) so we need to have him playing every day to keep him seeing the ball and utilize him while he has a hot streak going.
