Too bad

Backe isn’t scheduled to pitch against us this series.

Backe

doesnt really have to pitch against us to get us fired up. lol

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

by yer dog first on May 25, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

That's true.

By now, his mere presence should be enough to fire up an Albert HR barrage.

Let's hope so.

Id like to see Big Al go on a HR binge vs. the gAstros.

I can't see any reason to keep running Duncan out there

he’s not hitting for power, has no speed and terrible defense. I don’t care if he’s the coaches son or not.; Barton needs to see consistant playing time to get in a groove. It’s too bad that a player withh the upside of Barton has to sit because of a completely below average player like Duncan needs to find his swing.

by poohrat on May 25, 2008 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

I agree with you...

that Barton doesn’t need to sit on the bench in lieu of Duncan. Barton is a guy who needs to see frequent playing time right now to try and adjust. Even whilst adjusting, he’s going to be a bump over Duncan just by his speed on the bases and ability to reach balls in the field that frequently elude Duncan.

by mynameistyler on May 25, 2008 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, look at it this way...

Maybe we gave LA a bit of a spark and they can roll in and pound on the Cubbies a little bit.

by mynameistyler on May 25, 2008 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

Well Boys, and Girls,

that hurt. Can’t stand losing, when the game seems to be in hand.
Hopefully, the Dodgers take this as inspiration to Wrigley tomorrow and whoop some ass! Putting us in 1st all alone Tuesday morning.
I need to go sleep this off! ??!#

by chicagocardfan on May 25, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Well...

This game was anything but “in hand” today. It was constantly back and forth. As they say, whoever had the football at the end of the game was going to win this one. And that man with the football was Phil Cuzzi.

by mynameistyler on May 25, 2008 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions

i just have a tough time balming the ump

it was a well pitched and played game by both sides. you can’t argue balls and stikes in a game like that. It comes down to another defensive mistake by the biggest defensive liabilty on the team AGAIN!

by poohrat on May 25, 2008 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

of course, the only reason

we were even IN extra innings was because Schumaker missed a catchable fly ball earlier in the game.

I know, I know, nothing will ever change your mind, and C.D. did look really bad out there.

And I awoke in California, far far from Spancilhill...

by SleepyCA on May 25, 2008 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Why was Duncan in the Game?

All this situational micro-managing, but we are in extra innings on the road with Duncan playing left field. Don’t tell me he is a good outfielder. He isn’t.

by JustCatch the Ball on May 25, 2008 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

there was a point

when this team needed him. He played well and did what he could. That time has passed and it’s time to move on. He is not a major league left fielder and it shows. He has no business in that outfield and keeping talented players (Barton,Mather) on the bench or in AAA. When is enough going to be enough?

by poohrat on May 25, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Chris Duncan carried this team offensively in the first half of last year

and his power was one of the few things keeping us afloat at the end of 2006.

He has talent and he plays based on the potential of that talent returning. The problem is that he isn’t living up to it right now and his defense seemingly happens to hurt us at the worst possible time in games and becomes vastly magnified.

i still believe that if it was any other player in that same situation, and his last name wasn't Duncan

he’d be in AAA finding his power stroke, not wasting a spot on the ML roster.

boo cubs, hooray beer

by Raconteur on May 25, 2008 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree with you about 2006

but the fact is he was never a stellar outfielder and he’s a natural firstbaseman and even has shakey times in the field when he plays there. He’s contributed in the past but has no power or timely hitting right now. Why not send him down and bring Mather up and lets see what he can do and put Duncan in a situation where he can work on his power stroke and FIELDING in AAA. This team is better than expected and in the case of both Izzy and Duncan if your costing games with poor play time to step aside

Digging the new overlay

for the Redbirds broadcasts.

Is this the 5th uniform they’ve worn this year? The have the home whites, the road greys, the Mother’s Day pink jerseys, the alternate home red and now the alternate home blues.

We need to find a taker for Skip or Dunc

and help our MI future.
Or present for that matter.

Im guessing you know little about Mather fielding %/rfg…..you can look it up, then you wont be guessing. Trades to the Yankees re: Duncan have been proposed here many times….maybe they think one Duncan at 1st base is enuff….make that two possible Duncans…tho Eric aint related.

Or!

Watch Jason Lane wind up at 1st….LOL! It could happen! Repeat 2005 in the second half…

it looks like

all they have is men’s T shirts on their team site here.

they have youth jersey’s, but no adults. weird.

Trade chip made his 90 pitches tonight.

6 innings 2 hits (both singles) 1 ER 3BB 6K
And he hit solo home run that is the difference in the game right now. And he had 8 ground balls and 2 fly ball outs.

Trade chip did his job—Mr. Mozeliak, please do yours now. Don’t go all wobbly on me now. Mr Duncan does not want to work with this ugh, yicky, young man. He’s just soooooo different. Will you please trade him? I’m curious about what would happen if he actually got on a team that wanted him…....and since he’s one of my favorites, I’d like to see it soon. Thank you.

She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.

i can't believe phelps couldn't find

an AL DH job this year. I mean, the average AL DH is hitting .243/.332/.404, and phelps hit .306 /.399/.503 last year, and has an .820 career OPS.

And we signed him to a minor league deal.

I guess i just don’t understand what is going on with the DH this year… that should be the “easy” position to fill. Without doing math, going from .736 to .820 OPS over 650 PA’s has to be at least a couple of wins, from a player signed to a minor league deal…

So why did the Jays give up, looked like a promising upcoming AL DH, then like Jason Lane and a slew of DH or 1st base with fair to moderate power he doesnt get MLB ABs from anybody.

Its not like a lot of these guys struggled in the minors, with both Phelps and Lane slugging around .500 thru the minors. Lane is leading the Yankees AAA in power stats and probably deserves a shot somewhere in that mess if he could get on base more.

Some of these type hitters parlay one good season into several. Some don’t…Mike Laga syndrome?

Im not sure I understand the DH qualifying numbers anymore, period.
