Game 49 overflow I

the cards with RISP tonight: 5 for 8 with two walks. and there is still a RISP (ludwick) as i type this with two outs in the top of the 4th. pujols might be a tad distracted out there; hope those two injured padres heal up quick. cards lead it 6-2.

Hopefully

those two on strikeouts help Looper settle down, he’s got the run support which he didn’t have last time. Let’s get him a win.

Worse case scenario we have a rested pen with a day off looming. let’s take this series

Looper

What are we at, 75 pitches? This is just about where Looper heads severely downhill.

I’m hoping the 4th was his last inning, though I know Tony will probably trot him out there in the 5th so he can qualify for the win. If we send Loop out there again, this game could get tight really quick. I just hate it that we always wait to change the pitcher after bad shit goes down.

The logic of the pay

We’re watching this game: TV rights money.
We pay for the tickets.
We buy the merchandise.
We buy the concessions etc etc.

They’re taking their cut, or would you rather it go to a 5 person ownership group?

It’s such a pet peeve of mine when anyone complains about salaries (not that anyone was really doing it, but it’s the principle of the thing damnit…)

Off of your off topic:

Why don’t teams change nicknames when they change cities?

Los Angeles Lakers – because the lakes are so plentiful in SoCal
Memphis Grizzlies – because the southern part of the Mississippi is the Grizzlies’ natural habitat

And the best…

Utah Jazz – because if there’s one thing Mormons know, it’s jazz music

the nhl handled that INCREDIBLY poorly

no lockout is good, but at least the other sports didn’t have complete chaos as far as player movement from team to team in conjunction with the lockout. it’s one thing to come back from a play stoppage and try to get fans back and excited again. it’s another thing to try to bring them back to a completely different group of players, with no idea who they’re rooting for or against.

in addition, the nhl was absolutely moronic about its tv deal. i know, let’s have a strike, lose a lot of our fan base, have half of each roster swapped out, and then put all our games on the outdoor channel. brilliant.

i know previously die-hard hockey fans who haven’t watched a game since the lockout.

Regardless

Once they got the early rule-tweaks smoothed out (the hooking started out ridiculous) it’s a better on-ice product. They’ve butchered the business side, but the person who likes the game yet complains too much about that isn’t much of a fan to begin with.

whoa..

I did not know about the man crush… Seems like if JEd is going to stink it up at the plate they may as well let Pie get those ABs… doesn’t he provide great (if not better than Edmonds) defense?

Kidding about the man crush thing..

But you can tell Lou really likes him….for the time being, it’s gonna be a straight platoon with R. Johnson and JEd. But yeah, over at BCB everyone is screaming about Pie being sent down. Not much we lose if JEd doesn’t pan out, but we did waste an option on Pie, who is amazing on defense.

Don't get too cheerful about this

There are sprains and sprains. A severe, “high” sprain is as bad for a player as a fracture, since fractures (eventually) heal completely. I agree, almost certainly it’s better than the worst possible fracture, but it could still be bad.

Do not forget about Springfields Closer

a youngster by the name of Fernando Salas. Keep an eye on him, he’s manhandling AA right now.

and go....

I don’t get it to be honest, must be a little obscure for me.

I googled it the other day

It’s from a Bible verse that I’d never seen or read before. I’d assume it’s more like Phil thine horn with oil…because he always does it for the Phillies

GRR! no game day, no audio - typical on day of a Cards blow-out. Loud and clear for

funeral and super market commercials and Shannon calling a game only he can see

just wish he would start hitting dongs again.

nice

so he come back now who sits. Schu or Duncan?

by poohrat on May 22, 2008 1:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Do you sit mr on base 5 times?

I like Duncan but he still needs to hit for power to be effective.

by TheBirds on May 22, 2008 1:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well, dunc's been on base 4 times out of 5

It’s a good problem to have, i suppose.

I wouldn't say he's back necessarily

Throwing will probably be more painful on the shoulder than swinging. But that HR was a good sign.

If Rick, Luddy, and Dunc

could all be hot at the same time, could you imagine how much power we would have in the lineup

If tomorrow is the last day

then I think that is a pretty weak excuse for not going tonight. the last day at a middle school can’t be that hard!
