Game 48 Open Thread: May 20 2008

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres, May 20, 2008 10:05 PM EDT

Pineiro Maddux
2-2, 4.46 3-4, 3.98

since he turned 40 two years ago, greg maddux has posted a lower ERA than josh beckett, ted lilly, mark buehrle, barry zito, jon garland, jeff suppan, etc etc . . . . . he's got more wins than erik bedard, felix hernandez, and scott kazmir; more innings pitched than john lackey, brad penny, and justin verlander. he's nearly as old as i am, god bless 'im; we vampires gotta stick together.

Lineup

Barton 9
Duncan 7
Pujols
Ludwick 8
Glaus
Molina
Kennedy
Piniero
Izturis

I’m a big fan of trial by fire here for Barton. If he’s going to stick with the team, see if he can hit The Professor.

Cardinals win 5 to 4

Player of the game = Molina

no, he won't

he has no tools. if he were a toolsy player, i’d agree with you, but he isn’t. He’s undersized, he isn’t fast, he is a below average fielder, and he has virtually no pop.

He is the very definition of a career minor leaguer.

that's more like it

Miles is a pretty damn good bench/utility player….he probably has had more starts than he’s deserved over his Cardinals career but the guy is about as good as spare part/utilitymen get…..
