Game 46 Open Thread: May 18, 2008

Tampa Bay Rays @ St. Louis Cardinals

Jackson Lohse
2-3, 3.47 3-2, 4.91

since 2005, the cards have won only 1 interleague series against a team other than the royals; they took 2 of 3 from the athletics last june. lohse has a career 5-2, 2.53 mark against this franchise in 8 starts, for what little that's worth; the Rays ain't the same franchise anymore.

The Rays

Are playing remarkably well and, as usual, the AL East is stacked this year. I hate interleague play…

I'm suprisingly neutral about interleague

however, it pisses me off the rays are playing more over their heads then the cubs.

they're not over their heads

this team has arguably the best pitching staff in the league and some primetime hitters in their batting order. Just because they don’t have big names doesn’t mean they aren’t good!

On with the (good) youth movement!

i dont like the unbalanced schedule

Not to mention that it's absurdly unfair to have an unbalanced schedule

and THEN to have a wildcard, when all of the teams have wildly different strengths of schedule

Duncan and LaRue batting next to each other?

Why is Barton consitantly sitting on the bench when Duncan is the worst fielder of the bunch?

by poohrat on May 18, 2008 2:10 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Like I said in the main thread

I hate this lineup. I like 3-5 an 8 and 9, but outside that, I’d have different players in each spot, probably. Of course, Molina needs his days off, and Ankiel is hurt, but I still don’t like this lineup.

do you think.

they might look at moving Shu to the infield? He did come through the ranks as an infielder and moved out for neccesity. That would make room for Mather and Rasmus next year while keeping a good leadoff man. Also we could then deal Duncan before it’s too late. there is just too much talent in the organization in the outfield for Duncan to stay there.

by poohrat on May 18, 2008 2:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nope

Schu will be an OF and this teams leadoff hitter until someone hits .450 for a month and forces LaRussa to bench him.

take pause and see how awful Kyle Lohse has been over his last 3 starts:

It's okay

LaRue, Lohse and Iz2 will make him pay!

This is a nightmare matchup for our pitching staff

The one type of team we are not setup to win against. A fast, line drive hitting team. They are not trying to do too much with the ball and since none of our starters have anything to make them swing and miss they are just waiting and flipping line drives all over the field.

I think it's telling

that google searching “team LOB”, you’re less likely to find current season statistics and more likely to find it mentioned in a VEB blog.

I must say

the .135 is a nice fringe benefit.

Come back, Gary Bennett. All is forgiven.
