8 LOB?
People complain about all the LOB when they score 3-5 runs (like they have been). But tonight, they only have 4 LOB and zero runs. I hope people are happy….

glaus was a steroids guy
no proof afaik that he ever did HGH. Boo, Steroids!!! (thah Guv’mint told me they was bad, so I boos ‘em!!!).
Ankiel was an HGH guy, which isn’t even illegal today (we’ve had this conversation before) and he did it before it was against the rules of baseball.

mean anything.

except that it's bullshit
to give Ankiel shit about using HGH.

Except that he used it
whether you have no ethical problem with it or not, it won’t make his use of it go away.

guess I was just mad about the fact
that you equated Glaus and Ankiel. Their PED use was NOT equivelant; Glaus could go to jail for what he did, in 2 different countries, and would have been suspended if selig had anything left between his legs. While ankiel can’t be prosecuted and did not break any baseball rule.
They are totally different cases, and while I will always root for Glaus as the cards 3B, he’s tainted. To me, Ankiel is not, despite the story the CHI/NY media tried to sell last year.

I'd have to agree
not to bulk into a conversation or to bandwagon, but as we go forward into a “roid aware” regime we need to be careful about the notational differences between HGH and ‘roids.
I have no issues watching a guy getting reminded about either use, but they shouldn’t be considered the same, because they’re not. Not from a MLB rules point of view, or a technical point of view.

The weather?
Do you live in St. Louis (if not, then excuse the sarcasm). It’s been cold and rainy pretty much all “spring”. April was the 35th coolest month on record (or for the Global Warming people, 103rd warmest) and 49th wettest. May has been even wetter and not much warmer.

it's amazing
Carlos Gomez’ .705 OPS is good for a 98 OPS+. While Hunter’s AL .829 OPS is worth a 128 OPS+—roughly equivelant in the AL to Rick Ankiel’s .878 OPS in a pitchers park (129 OPS+).
WTF has happened to the AL this year? it’s like every AL GM has totally punted on offense.

Now we know how the Pirates felt
Except the Rays didn’t give the game up in the 8th. Didn’t it feel eerily similar to how we’ve been playing? I mean, they slapped us around silly left a ton on base, and scored 3.
Then have a guy who’s ERA looks awful on paper make us look like he was Cy Young reincarnated. Really sucks if you ask me.
Couple of notes that I noticed outside of that.
Looper looked ok by me. Did he have it tonight? No. (Does he have it any night? Lunch specials only, thanks). That being said, he pitched reasonable enough. I won’t complain about anyone getting through six with 2 runs plated, regardless of how it occurs. Lucky by DP? Maybe, but then again we pay that “scrappy” MI over 6 million to turn them, and Looper isn’t a K type of pitcher so I wouldn’t call it luck, just baseball.
His bat makes me wonder if we want a pitcher to PH, why aren’t we using him in some of those situations. Yes, Waino has more power. However, Looper has had a lot more productive of a bat when he does.
Glaus seems to be waking up. I hope it’s sustainable because if it is, maybe we can do something with it. Two mashed balls to opposite field, one warning track and one for a triple is nice to see. Even more so considering how much in front he used to be. I really want to discount his strikeout because those calls were pretty bad. Sonnanstine was getting really low strikes in the 2nd.
How good did our farm boys look tonight over the last 3? I mean seriously. I’ll disregard the wild comments because it was his first inning of work. There’s a lot to be excited about with those two, and I’m really, really hoping that they do well. Not because I want just them up in the ranks, but because it may open the door for the others that are peeking in. We have a decent pen this year, what management needs to get is that half of them are in Memphis.
I like Skip, I enjoy him on the roster, but it feels like he’s sewn up a job that should be platooned more aggressively. He’s not doing much and Barton is starting to be effected by the limited at bats. If we want Luddy in there, then we need to bring Ryan in to lead off. Matter in fact I’d like to see Ryan lead off for a few games and see if we can use that to allow some more aggressive platoon options in the OF.
I’d really like to see some numbers on the patience of our guys and contact out of the zone. It feels like ever since we walked off that game at Coors our guys have slowly lost the ability to break pitchers and when we’re RISP, we’re not overly productive.
And I don’t care what anyone says about regressing to the means. Yes, we should slow up a bit and come back to earth from the April start, but the facts of the situation remain. We’ve been “out” of what? Two games this month? And we’re still walking away with losses.
Sigh.

We are the anti-Rays
they play close games with no offense and win. We play close games with no offense and lose.
And these guys are playing in a tougher league. Go figure.
