Why not Jaime [hi-me] Garcia?

I say we bring up this kid instead of waiting till pigs fly before mulder comes back and pitches effectively.  Just look at his minor league stats this year, they are ridiculous.

Team League W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG
SPR TEX 3 2 2.06 6 6 1 0 0 35.0 26 10 8 0 16 41 2.44 .206
MEM PCL 1 0 0.69 2 2 0 0 0 13.0 12 2 1 0 1 12 2.38 .226

One of those losses in double A he did not give up an earned run.  He has been very effective, a lot more than you can say for the "stud" we got for danny haren.

His time will come

More likely than not, something will happen to one of the current starting 5. Either someone will get hurt or the low K-ing ways of Lohse, Piniero, and Looper will catch up with one of them. When that happens, I say Garcia gets the first shot as long as he is still kicking butt in AAA and Carp isn’t ready to go.

I mentioned him

last week when Izzy was in his freefall. Still think he might be best; bring him up ease him into the league via bullpen.

So...

Who in the rotation should we drop right now for the kid who has thrown 1 AAA game?

Well...

Most likely piniero, even though he had a good start last time out. But… I’m not saying bring him up right away, but if one of our starters starts struggling or gets injured, i’m just saying bring him up instead of mulder.

Oh

And also, he has made two starts in AAA. One no decision where he gave up one earned run and a win where he didn’t give up anything. Six K’s in both.

Too early...

This was a guy who was hurt last year—he’s looked dominant so far, but it’s hard to tell if he’d hold up through a whole season in the rotation.

I don’t understand the fascination with replacing anyone in the current rotation. The starters are in the top 10 in the MLB as a unit!!!

Piniero isn’t going anywhere unless he gets hurt—he’s been fairly effective so far, much more effective than someone like Lohse, who is on a one year contract and could be traded at the deadline to someone looking to sign him long term.

Currently I don’t see any need to mess with the rotation—let Garcia get starts in AAA and build himself up mentally and physically, then let him ease into the rotation next year. What’s the big hurry to get to the future anyway?

Jaime as a reliever...

I can see this happening later in the season, post-All-Star Break. He’s a lefty, and with Johnson still out in IR Land with no updates, Flores stinking it up, and Villone up-and-down thanks to the workload, I can see the Cardinals promoting him to the MLB bullpen to get his feet wet.

Depending on how he does (in Memphis, as well), he’ll probably get a shot at the rotation next season.

Update on Johnson

he had his shoulder scoped yesterday and is out for the season.

Bullpen...

If he continues to pitch well in AAA, then a Sept callup to the bullpen seems most likely. They’ll want to keep his innings reasonable, and that simply wouldn’t happen in the rotation unless they really start to back it off in the minors. I think the bullpen is a solid option though…

I Realy Like Jaime

But he is still VERY young(Only 21). And I do not want to push him at all, with his injury problems last year. I think he sould stay most, maybe all, of the year in AAA. Maybe later in the year he can come up and get a start or 2 just to get him ready for next year. I think both Parisi and Boggs will get a shot at starting this year before Jaime Garcia will.
