Game 42 Open Thread: May 14 2008

Pittsburgh @ St. Louis

Maholm Wellemeyer
2-3, 4.79 3-1, 3.56

pirates try to reach .500 tonight; they haven't been at .500 this deep into a season since 2005, when they played .500 ball through game #60. they ended up at 67-95, in last place. the year before that they were at .500 through 46 games, 23-23 --- but still last in the nl central. they were tied with the cards, brewers, and cubs in the loss column at the time . . . . . went on to finish 5th that year, at 72-89.

How tall is Wellemeyer?

He always looks like a bohemoth on the mound.

go cards.

I bet he's more 235 at this point

There’s a ton of upper body muscle there…

With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch

could be...

that’s just what gameday has him listed as

All right

Lets do this

Why Jimmy

Why?

Losing is a disease

by ANDYAK47 on May 14, 2008 8:21 PM EDT   0 recs

Wow, worst case scenario!

Jimmy a cub? Never thought I’d see the day!

How can I root for Jimmy to do well now if when he does he helps the cubs?

by TheBirds on May 14, 2008 8:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm horrified...

and almost mad at him.

He's gonna sabotage them from the inside

I like this idea.

Edmonds…super spy.

go cards.

by thecoolalonzo on May 14, 2008 8:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

it has already happened
“He’s going to hit ninth,” Piniella said. “I’m going to move the pitcher to eighth, and hit Edmonds ninth.”

Even though the whole situations burns my butt, it is nice to see Lou following Tony’s lead*

Oh man, for real?

Not only does he have to go play for them, where the fans treated him like shit for 8 years, but now he has to bat 9th? Say it ain’t so, Jimmy!

I think he's signing with the Cubs to try and shove it in our face

after the unceremonious end to his tenure here

I dont think so

Jimmy did not have a job and the cubs offered him one, it is as simple as that

I read somewhere that he said he wanted to negotiate with the Cubs first

either that or that the Cubs were the only team he wanted to negotiate with, can’t remember. It was probably on here, but I can’t remember exactly where I saw it.

the Cubs told him not to talk to anyone until he talked to them first.

It is what was reported on Chicago Tribune Live

I was watching it before last nights game. They let him know that they were interested and to come to town for a visit.

I really hope he doesn't last more than a month with them

It makes me want to go throw up. Maybe he gets up to bat and flies them all the double bird

who will lead the team in HRs

Ludwick, Ankiel, Pujols?

Ankiel is Jesus!

by Cards Fan in Chitown on May 14, 2008 8:28 PM EDT   0 recs

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say albert :)

Ankiel is too streaky and Luddy won’t get enough at bats

by TxCardFan on May 14, 2008 8:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Pujols

Dont think there is any doubt there

Losing is a disease

by ANDYAK47 on May 14, 2008 8:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah, Pujols is the obvious choice

but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Ludwick

Ankiel is Jesus!

by Cards Fan in Chitown on May 14, 2008 8:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

As mentioned above

He’d be a good choice, but only if he gets the playing time he deserves

I'll go Rick

I think all Rick and Albert will be relatively close all year

The only one who liked the Cardinals so much he became a St. Louis Cardinals football fan.

by coachnick39 on May 14, 2008 8:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Let's hope all three of them have a nice healthy competition

to lead the team in homers. I think any one of them is capable of doing it. Pujols weakness would be getting walked a lot and not enough pitches to hit. Luddy playing time, and Rick being streaky. should be a cool thing to watch

Ankiel is Jesus!

by Cards Fan in Chitown on May 14, 2008 8:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd still like to see

Glaus warm up and get in the chase.

by paposse on May 14, 2008 8:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah

if he just starts hitting ‘em out all the time… that would help our RISP issue quite a bit. he should be in the race too

Ankiel is Jesus!

His arm is unquestionably the best in the NL, and he’s made quite a few web gems already!
