VEB Day at the Ballpark: Saturday

The first-ever Viva El Birdos day at the park is this coming Saturday, May 17th, per the overwhelming will of the voting community. The pitching matchup will feature Matt Garza, who's been having serious command issues and gave up a home run to ScoRo in his last start (as of writing, he faces the Yankees tonight), against Ye Olde Makre of Wagonnes, ace of the 2008 Cardinals rotation.

First pitch is at 12:10, the weather is expected to be in the low 70s, perfect ballgame weather.

Alxfritz did all the planning for this, but is internet-deprived this week, so asked me to post the information.

We'll be spread throughout the stadium that day since we all bought our own tickets, but will be meeting up at the Broadway Oyster Bar at 736 South Broadway after the game for good times and baseball talk. (Really tempted to insert a lame "reply to this—in person!" joke here. [And did -- ed.])

If anyone wants to schedule a time for in-game meet-n-greet, feel free. I'll be watching from the Casino Queen Party Porch and probably will take a break to Gate 4 once or twice during the game.

Hope many of you can make it, tickets are still available. If you can only make it to the post-party, feel free to join us there.

I've never been there either

but I emailed Alx, and he says, “I’m about 90 percent certain it is (welcoming of under-21 patrons) during the day, but not at night.”

I’ll have a more definitive answer for you when he hears back from the place. Hopefully so, or that could be a problem.

It's usually okay before and for a while after the game.

I’ve been there a bunch of times, probably my favorite pregame spot. Since it is such an early game I would think that under 21 would be allowed at least outside on the patio for quite a while after the game. Before the game has never been a problem with an under-21 person.

man

I never get to see waino pitch.

Me and the gf are going sunday (I play a wedding sat) and we get to see Jackson vrs Loshe.

it seems like every year I see the least glamourous pitchers.

last year it was Kip Wells severial times
before that it was Suppan and Marquis

never Waino never Carp. well thats what I get for having a weird schedual and get tix way in advance.

it will still be fun to see the Rays (im so used to Devil Rays)

Really bummed I can't make it

First of all, can we make this an annual tradition?

Second, someone make sure to take plenty of pictures, and put them up here. Although I’m not sure I want to see all of your faces, maybe would just like to keep it at Mr Redbird and friends, lol

Annual tradition

I’d like that. Chances are I’ll be making it to fewer games next season than this one.

If this one’s fun enough, might as well do another later in the season.

hell, I think we have one already

if you look at how many people had tickets for the Padres series.

I'll be there!

I’ll be in the bleachers, but I will try to make it to the oyster bar after the game. :)
