1 Millionth Stupid Trade Proposal.

The Birds don't seem to be getting any traction out of the revolving door that is our cleanup spot in the batting order.

I thought for sure Ankiel would solidify that spot and he may still but I have another idea.

No, not Ludwick. (wouldn't jive with the stupid trade proposal thingy anyways)

How about cashing in some chips for a young dynamic player that can hit for power and play stellar defense who also got signed up for a reasonable contract?

If they would(they being Florida) could Mo justify trading Rasmus, Anderson, Kozma, & Reyes/Garcia to Florida for Hanley Rameriz ?

If not what would be a fair trade keeping in mind you have to persuade Florida to say yes to trading the face of thier franchise.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus the marlins just locked him up long term…i dont think they are planning on getting rid of him anytime soon

whoa,

this is a little ridiculous.

1. They just signed Hanley to a big contract, with the hopes that he could get butts in the seats of their soon-to-be stadium. They won’t trade him

2. Area you serious about that package? You could probably get him for just Rasmus and Reyes if the fish were willing to trade Ramirez. With all that talent, you should atleast be able to get back several other players (maybe throw in Anderson to that deal and try to get Uggla in return)

Let Duncan retake his picture!

how about they

just trade Reyes straight up for Uggla. the fish would go for that, right?*

haha, indeed

but it probably is somewhat possible to get Uggla. We’d just obviously need to give up more.

Did you not see I said stupid trade proposal?

Just having some fun. I am not serious in the least bit ….

???unless Florida would consider trading Rameriz.

No way

they can think of trading my 4 favorite prospects. For 2 of them…maybe, but then you sure the hell better move Hanley off of SS. I don’t like crappy fielding shortstops.

Hanley isn't for sale but...

what about Dan Uggla? He’s going to be due a big payday soon, and they may not have the money to lock him up after Hanley.

Perhaps a package of Reyes and Bryan Anderson?

Jeeeez, i didnt realize that Uggla's #'s were so ridiculous so far this year

it would probably take more than that package I listed.

he's a streaky player.

His numbers will eventually tail off.

FIRESALE!!!

just wait a little bit for the marlins to have their traditional firesale. they have a lot of good players that could go really cheap then

won't happen

for a bit, probably 2 or 3 years before they start dumping guys off.

then again, with the new stadium coming i think they may expect to be bringing in a lot more money and may start locking up some of their younger talent (as evidenced by the hanley ramirez deal).

you must be mixed up

uggla plays for marlins not Rays and even the Marlins are not going to trade Uggla when leading the NL east by 3.

Thank you

Teams with the best record in baseball do not usually unload key components of their team while in first place for a bunch of minor leaguers. But for argument’s sake, let’s just say the Marlins are in last, and didn’t just lock Ramirez up long term, and he’s on the market. He’s a proven top 10 talent, 5 tool, young, middle of the lineup bat who might be the best hitter at his position in MLB. For that you give them Rasmus, Reyes (if they really want him), any three other guys they want, Pujols’ first born son, the Musial statue, Both Duncans, and almost anything else they want. My point being if you can get a proven star who’s young and healthy back, you give up ANY prospect UNLESS your argument is that they couldn’t have signed him long terrm.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Rasmus fan, and think he’ll be fine, even though he’s not exactly tearing up AAA . But in reality, we couldn’t get Uggla and Andrew Miller for him right now. If the Marlins collapse and we’re still hanging around, I would think Uggla could be had in a lesser deal as a stretch drive rental, but I don’t think he’s a long term solution because he’s not the best defensively and he’s going to want a lot of dough.

Two things

A.) I never said the Rays, I know he plays for the Marlins. Their payroll is equally as non existent as the Rays.

B.) I realize that they won’t be trading him at the moment. I was implying more towards the trade deadline when I believe the Marlins will have fallen out of the race (although they may surprise me).

maybe you didn't

but quote, “what about Dan Uggla? He’s going to be due a big payday soon, and they may not have the money to lock him up after Hanley.” Sounded like it to me.

sounded like what?

i don’t get your rays comment…

by baw on May 13, 2008 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

how does that make it sound like I was implying the Rays?

Or did YOU forget that Hanley Ramirez plays for the Marlins, not the Rays? Because that’s what it sounds like to me.

Don't get me wrong

I admire Uggla greately, but unless you want to go after him long term why mess around with him at all.
I don’t believe much in short term rentals, I’ve seen too many times, teams give up too much for short term rentals and still fall short by that player not making a quick adjustment to the new team or you have other players come up short. Then what do you have…a player that other teams will pay more than you and your future squandered. If I’m not mistaken, I think the Marlins got him on a rule 5 draft, if so they got the bargain of the century.

by ridgesee on May 13, 2008 12:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They did

I have relatives who live in South Bend, home of the South Bend Silverhawks of the illustrious Midwest League, a Class A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. They used to go see them play a lot, and they always talked about what a beast Uggla was. They said he tore the cover off the ball to the tune of a .566 OPS.

He obviously recovered after that, and he posted an .880 OPS at AAA in 2005 before the Snakes cut him loose in the Rule 5 draft at the end of that year. I would say that the D-Backs are probably kicking themselves, but the guy they have at 2nd (Orlando Hudson) isn’t too bad either and they’re arguably the best team in baseball right now. I guess it worked out ok for everyone involved.

So...

Reyes and Rasmus should be enough to get Rameriz ?
