cards have only lost one series all year long --- to the giants, at home (ouch). they've won 7 series, split 4.
yadi's batting 2d today --- first time he's ever started a game in any of the top 3 positions in the order. in today's main thread somebody suggested that yadi might be the slowest #2 hitter ever; on a whim, i looked up ken reitz's page at B-R to see if he ever started a game in the 2 hole. sure enough, he did --- one time, in this july 1974 game. i reckon ol' reitzie was probably faster than yadi, though . . . . .

Let's go Cards
Win for the split, but more importantly, win for Wainwright. The offense/bullpen has really been letting him down lately. He should easily be a 5 or even 6 game winner by now with the way he’s been pitching.
I hope we hang 6 on Bush early
so TLR isn’t tempted to use Pujols on his dayoff.

we really, really need a game like that.
Also so that AW isn’t asked to throw 8+ innings.

Just thinking..
Missed the entire day yesterday due to some work and lots of driving, but read the game threads, wow.
But then I got to think a minute. When the season first began I thought that we would be sitting just under .500 around now and hoping the Pirates come to town so we could have a chance to not be the worst in the central (which can be like being the Ugliest Volvo. I mean, come on).
But we’re not. We’re a cluster of games above .500 and in first, if only barely. We have been getting production from a group of outfielders that frankly, was hard to see. I mean, we have the “oldest..youngest” outfield in the game, and all in all they’re providing us with some reasonable production across the board.
We have a staff that almost every media considers duct taped together. But those bullpen boys are really stepping it up as starters. Frankly, if you look at the actual money on the 25 man roster, I can’t help to be impressed.
Our pair of SS’s aren’t making me miss the older version of ‘Scrappy Doo’ all that much as they can actually field the ball. And while our third baseman has been boring as of late to say the least with the bat, his performance on the field isn’t making me miss the old 3rd baseman dramas that we’ve had the past few years.
And we’re not stuck. We have some depth in the pen and even some doses in starters should we need it. We don’t have to scrape for a pitcher this year, we may even have a few to get rid of. We have some talent building down there that’s making me pay attention to Memphis more and more.
We have some trade chips, even though they may be mediocre at best, and we’re not at our ceiling as a club at all.
So for one day at least, I don’t care about October, the ‘streak’, the missing thunder, the iffy bullpen and the headcase closer. I’m not stressed about the series, the road trip, or how on fire Pit is coming to see us tomorrow (though I’ll note how hot Houston was.. and how well we cooled them off).
I’m just going to sit back and enjoy some baseball, watch our boys play and thank goodness that we’re not the Padres

the Cubs are outscoring their opponents in the 8th inning 476 to 12, or so it seems. Seems like every game at Wrigley, they either take the lead in the 8th inning or tack on 5 insurance runs in the 8th.

Ryan is going to sit regardless of what Iz2 hits, Iz2 could hit under .100 and TLR would start him. So you might as well root for Izturis to play well
boo cubs, hooray beer
One thing that really pisses me off about this team
is that the hitters don’t seem to know who the hell they are.
Dave Bush can’t throw strikes, goes down 2-0 to Kennedy and Uppercut is hacking away. Then, TLR has Wainwright bunting? What the hell for? So Izturis can get an RBI opportunity? So Skippy can weakly groundout to an infielder?
It’s shit like that why the Cardinals strand so many baserunners. Not playing smart baseball.

Not just this at bat, but in general
Where in the hell is Skips plate patience as of late? That seemed to be the cornerstone of his surge in mid-late April and seems to all but be gone, in general it seems that we’re seeing a lot more first pitch swings from him.

no power usually leads to no walks
Since the pitchers just start pouring in strikes knowing the batter isn’t going to hurt them much.
I think you're right
Those high OBP, low power hitters are rare. It’s an odd combination of patience and aggression, a good eye, lots of leg doubles, & the occasional triple to the corners. Brett Butler could do that, and so could Ozzie. Not so sure about Skip, but he’s already turned into a better ballplayer than I ever thought he could be.
This is too bad...
I was hoping we would come out hitting on all cylinders but that’s not the case tonight. Hopefully we can make it a game over the next couple of innings. 3-5 does seem like a world of difference from 4-4.
Fuck the heck

Ick...
The wimpiness of this country these days disgusts me. I’m not saying we should go back to the days of Babe Ruth punching out an umpire, but dropping your stuff at an umpire’s feet to make a point you’re disgusted with him should not result in an ejection if it hits his foot.

We need to go back to St. Louis the same way we left. Pissed at the world and fired up. If it takes this, so be it. But to be fair, Tony has had lots of other situations where he should have been ejected before.

Ump's fault?
I’m watching the game on FSN Wisconsin with my MLB Extra Innings package and the Brewer’s announcers are making a good point. They said that if the umpire doesn’t come around in front of Molina to wipe of the plate and “make his point” does Molina get run from the game? Then, does TLR? Probably not on either account. The ump misplayed that a bit. (Plus, he’s missed about 4 strike/ball calls just this inning…but I’m slightly bias.)
Yes, it was the umps fault
Molina acted like a child, but the ump stepped in front of Molina to start a confrontation.

i didnt mean that the ending was how it should be
but i like it when players stick up for each other in a reasonable situation, and that missed curve against fielder seemed to start it, and it was a pretty good looking pitch
should he of stripped at home, no, but i would figure our pitcher likes the backup yadi gave him….i would
