Rumors flying: Chris Perez called up!?
[UPDATE: there are conflicting rumors making the rounds. i hope they do call up perez, and there's a credible report out there ---- but it's not gospel truth yet. ----l.b.]
Ladies, gentlemen, Anti-Isringhausen faithful, I present to you, your new closer . According to a well-trusted source at Future Redbirds, the Cardinals have called up the fireballing righty Chris Perez from Memphis. It looks like after 5 blown saves and an ERA in the 7's, the big birds have finally found a temporary stopgap.
Through 17 games, his line looks like so: 1-1 record, 16.2 innings, 8 saves, 2 WP, 2.16 ERA, 12 hits, WHIP of 1.20, and a whopping 21 K's!
Chris, after going to the U of Miami, was drafted in the supplemental round (42 overall) of the 2006 draft. For those of you who remember way back in ST, he was one of the last players to be sent down to the MiLB camp. It seems to me that it was him, K-Mac, Jimenez, and a few darkhorse candidates.
So he is not on the 40-man roster, so it looks as if they will have to make some moves to get him on. Is it possible they put Clement on the 60 day DL? Did Mo find a trade partner dumb enough to give up a stud-of-a-prospect for Reyes (cough cough Brian Sabean cough cough)? Who knows, maybe Izzy will spend some time on the DL.
This has not been confirmed by a legit source yet , but for all of your avid FR readers, you know just how amazing cardsfan1's track record is. This has also been talked about on Cards Talk.

Anxious to see what the kid can do.....
I was hoping we could wait a little longer before calling him up, as his walks still scare me, but this is the season to get the young guys some experience. Be nice to have a closer come out or our system and close out games for 10+ years.

Was this the reason Perez wasn't used last night
in the Redbirds game?

hasn’t been wrong yet.

I believe this may be true but...
Some guy over at Cards talk says it was going to happen but now is not…
(don’t understand why that would happen)
Regardless I hope we see Perez blow away some brewers this afternoon…

The only way that would happen is if Mozeliak
was going to call him up and LaRussa veto’d it.

I hope that's NOT going on.......it doesn't bode well for the next 2 years for either one of them if that's true.

Oh my, now we’re looking at another La Russa vs. Mo conspiracy and two years of infighting based on talk re: the possibility of a minor league pitcher being called up?

Jack Ruby shot a doppleganger of Oswald
the real Oswald turned his bribe money into a financial empire. Today he goes by the name Bill DeWitt. The freemasons realized that Anthony Reyes knows and instructed their puppet to hold him back, and decrease his visibility as much as possible. They suspect that he told the horrible truth to Chris Perez.
Sadly the American public has rejected the horrible truth and opted for dingers.
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

I knew it
I might have just said too much
"He was trying to hit a three run homer with the bases empty. To my knowledge, no one in the history of the game has ever done that. But it could happen someday. You never know in this world of baseball." The Moonman

Not to worry...
This kinda thing has been in the making for months…years! Never ends…
Dewitt the un-doppleganger!! Great!
But at least there is some proof that the Freemasons were and are involved as I once suspected! Thanks V!!

I would hope Larussa would say to Mo your a week late get the kid up here pronto..
I’m sure hinkster would agree that Tony probably is insisting that Mo go down and drive him up to Milwaulkee himself.
This is probably what is taking so long.

to St. Louis is a pretty long drive. Better get the bosses jet in the air if you want his butt here for today.

Officially, he has not been called up

Perez
Even if he did get called up do you really think that LaRussa would just hand the kid the closers job??

Nasty way to go about it
Just awful handling of the situation if, in fact, Perez was told he was coming up and then later told he wasn’t. That will sour an attitude in a hurry.
I still wonder if this move happens after the game today. Maybe logistics held it up a day.

Sour his attitude?
Are you kididng? He might be disappointed, but he aint’ sour. If he is, then he’s got a bad attitude. My guess is, he’s been in the minors long enough to have seen guys get called up unexpectantly and get left behind when all indications said he was going up.
His job is to be ready when called upon. If he gets his panties in a bunch over this then he’s a prima dona. And for the record, I don’t think he is and he probably would laugh at the notion of him getting “sour” over this.

Not kidding
And not saying that he’s going to go into a funk for months. But yeah, most people would be a little pissed off if they were told they were getting the callup and then told a half hour later they were not. I don’t think it makes him a prima dona if he’s fuming right now.
All this with the disclaimer – if it really went down as reported in FR, and others have hinted.
Personally I still think he may be up tomorrow.

Wouldn't mind seeing
Izzy DL’d with a hand contusion and Perez called up. Head down to Extended and work out the mechanics with Strom.

Looks like Perez was told to "be ready"
The blown save was Isringhausen’s fifth in 16 attempts this season. It came only two days after he fumbled an eighth-inning lead against the Colorado Rockies and left him on the verge of tears. Isringhausen sought a meeting with La Russa immediately after Friday’s loss and, according to club sources, delivered two open-handed swats at the television in La Russa’s office. The blows cut Isringhausen’s right palm badly enough that the club considered disabling him and notified its Triple-A Memphis affiliate to ready Chris Perez for a possible promotion. The club reconsidered after Isringhausen arrived at the park Saturday; La Russa insisted he was available to pitch.

How about someone help me with
defining Izzy’s current/future role on the team? I don’t want to start any arguments or anything but it does seem to me that a 38 year old ex-closer with no self-confidence who throws meatballs would have a hard time finding playing time on a team that plays so many close games. Is that question insensitive?
A little help please?

Do you think maybe the Cal Eldred role?
Towards the end he wasn’t very good, but they kept him around for mop up and leadership. Do you see him fitting in that role, for now at least?
