Game 9 Open Thread: April 9, 2008

St. Louis @ Houston

Looper Sampson
1-0, 1.50 0-0, 2.70

memphis already played today; my boy mike parisi threw 6 shutout innings for his first win of the year. jason motte and chris perez both threw scoreless frames to close it out. survey question: how many big-league bullpens have a worse setup/closer combination than memphis?

Is Sampson actually starting?

I heard he was sick or something.

Still looking for 1985 Regular Season games on DVD/VHS

I believe...

Sampson is recovering from the flu, but he's pitching anyway.

I could be wrong.

Just wondering

I'd think the way the bullpen has struggled thus far that some electricity instilled by calling up Perez (sending down Jimenez) could be a very good thing.

With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch

maybe it has ended up a really good thing

that izzy wanted to stay so bad

if we somehow stay in contention one big reason will be him being a dominate closer for us

you never know, maybe we can make some noise this year, and he would be a huge part

by ihavebadknees on Apr 9, 2008 8:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yea

and on that note, i don't agree with Hrabosky that it was bad baserunning by Albert. He had to assume Lee had a chance to get Dunc at home and the ball wouldn't be cut off.

by drewsilv on Apr 9, 2008 8:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i definitely don't think it was BAD baserunning

not sure i agree with him going for 3rd there, but it's at worst a judgment call - if he thought duncan was going to be thrown out, he made the right play.

per Rotoworld

(sorry to those who are tired of this)

Brandon Backe yelled at Albert Pujols during batting practice, and Astros manager Cecil Cooper had to come between the two prior to Wednesday's game.
Several Astros are apparently mad at Pujols for his takeout of J.R. Towles at home plate last night, though Pujols called Towles after the game and apologized. If the Astros take their revenge by throwing at Pujols, there could be a major incident tonight.

Whatever happened last night...

Brandon Backe probably should tread a little more carefully.

And he had his attitude adjusted pretty quickly by El Hombre.

Backe needs to do something in the majors

before he starts talking shit. That guy's barely a major leaguer and, in fact, if he wasn't from the Houston area and considered "scrappy" he probably wouldn't have a job, at least as a starter. He seriously needs to STFU and grow up.
