Memphis game last night.....

So I went to the Memphis game in OKC last night.

Some thoughts:

- I hope I just caught them having a bad game, as nobody played particularly well.

- Rasmus.  First time I had seen him in person.  He was "thinner" than I had imagined.  Didn't look real sharp at the plate.  Showed a good arm from the outfield, but did air mail one into the 3rd base dugout, when a two hopper probably would have nailed the guy.  He also got picked off by the catcher at 1B.  Just a bad game, I hope, but based on what I saw, he could use a few months in AAA.

- Mather/Phelps.  Both of them looked thin as well.  Team has some good height though.  Mather has a nice swing, hopefully he'll be able to contribute as a backup in STL at some point.

- Hawksworth.  Good stuff.  Nice fastball, nice looking curve, and has some offspeed stuff.  Control.  Control.  Control.  Kid was all over the strike zone.  If he can figure out how to throw strikes, could be a 4/5 SP in the bigs.

- Castellanos didn't impress me a ton either.  Nice minor league guy, but I really don't see him having prolonged success at the ML level.

- Freese.  Didn't get to see him.  Was a little disappointed in that.  Same with Motte and Perez.

Steroid - lack there of

As far as the "thin" thing, I see that throughout MLB as well. Very few guys are as "thick" as they used to be.

I'm watching a 1984 Cardinal game I DVRed from ESPN Classics as I type. It is amazing how skinny everyone is, including the Cubs.

I believe MLB is going to return to the days of my youth were speed is king and power is scarce within the next 5 years.

Opening Day...

I was watching the pre-game introductions and was shocked at how jacked the Rockies entire team was. They were wearing that gastly black on black vest/under armor combo. Tulowitzki, Holliday, and Atkins have the biggest damn arms ever...Of course, the Under Armor may have helped with that. "We Must Protect This House!"

agreed

Not a good day for me seeing as how my girlfriend goes to Carolina... needless to say the conversation wasn't the best.

Talk about...

your small sample size? Maybe if you catch one more than one game, they'll be red hot and it'll all turn around for you.

Mather

Is/was thin all along. He put on twenty pounds last year, but still is pretty skinny for a 6 and half foot plus guy.

Rasmus to me still looks like a kid. You can tell that he hasn't stopped filling in, so that's what I attribute to his small size.

Neither has gone from being huge to small, they are just smaller than you expect.
