Don't forget how much Dan Loves Ricky

Here's the deal, I'm the best there is, plain and simple, I mean I wake up every morning and I kiss excellence, and nobody can hang with my stuff, uh, you know I'm just a, just a big hairy American winning machine.....

by Schnake on Apr 4, 2008 10:11 PM EDT   0 recs

In a 5-1 game

couldn't we leave Barton in LF a couple more innings? He's not going to get better riding the pine and misplaying a fly ball isn't going to cost us the game at this point.

by chuckb on Apr 4, 2008 10:13 PM EDT   0 recs

agreed

lets get Barton another at bat and some fielding practice...if the game gets close, then take him out

by Matty I on Apr 4, 2008 10:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

if tony doesnt make moves

we wouldnt know he was there

maybe he'd rather give skip a couple at bats

by adiueordie on Apr 4, 2008 10:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Barton went 2-for-4 with no obvious mistakes

I don't mind ensuring that his first start remains a positive experience.

by azruavatar on Apr 4, 2008 10:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think it's two things ...

First: it improves the defense late in the game, never a bad thing ...

Second: it's a jesture to Skip ... let's see if he takes advantage of it and get's a freakin' hit ...

i was just wondering that

should he come back out for the 7th?

he's at 94 pitches now according to CBS

by Matty I on Apr 4, 2008 10:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

In all honesty ...

they should probably lift him, this early in the season ... he's rolling though ... however, we have a good pen ...

and Wainwright pitches tomorrow

Hypothetically we won't need it too much...

by husker4cards on Apr 4, 2008 10:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No, but he can build some endurance

if he gives up a walk or hit pull him, we've got some wiggle room

by redbirddude on Apr 4, 2008 10:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

With Chico, a lefty,

starting tomorrow, I'm hoping Crabman gets another start.

(Aside - anyone else going to Busch tomorrow?)

Pretty cool unless you buy standing room and try to stand on

opening day, I found an open seat 12 rows up from 3rd no prob

by redbirddude on Apr 4, 2008 10:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My brother and I were kicked out of seats about 15 rows

behind home plate late in one game when there were a ton of empty seats, but most of the time they seem to leave you alone.

by BTown Birds fan on Apr 4, 2008 10:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

But that's directly behind home plate

i've never been asked to check for a ticket up the lines, i normally walk around for the first two and then grab a seat that's been empty

by redbirddude on Apr 4, 2008 10:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm not sure why it should matter that we were

behind home plate if there were so many empty seats; there was no way we were going to interfere with anyone who had tickets down there. (FWIW, we were a little ways down the 3rd base line, not directly behind home plate; but we were definitely closer to home than 3rd).

And we've gone down to roughly that same spot except on the first base side in extra innings and they've left us alone.

by BTown Birds fan on Apr 4, 2008 10:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Eh, whaddya gonna do?

Not like we really had a right to be there, but it was no skin off their nose. I'm always baffled when stuff like that happens. We ran into an usher who was a complete asshole at a game at RFK last summer, when the place was practically empty. As long as you're not making an ass of yourself or taking someone's seat, it seems like they'd want to show a little goodwill to their fans at no real cost.

by BTown Birds fan on Apr 4, 2008 10:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

luckily my rich person seats are free from work

and i can almost guarantee you'll find some empty seats down there tomorrow.

...just a bit outside....

by Ankiels Missing Curveball on Apr 4, 2008 10:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Has McClellan eclipsed

Springer in the pen? They both should be ready to go but, w/ a 4 run lead, it's not a high leverage situation. I'd have thought this was a good time for McClellan and, judging by the fact that Guzman just took Springer downtown, maybe I was right.

by chuckb on Apr 4, 2008 10:24 PM EDT   0 recs

LOL Yankees

Got killed by the 1st place Rays, 13-4!

by husker4cards on Apr 4, 2008 10:25 PM EDT   0 recs

A HR for Guzman...

really Springer? REALLY?

As few homers as Cristian Guzman hits

that ball is quite a souvenir!

by chuckb on Apr 4, 2008 10:25 PM EDT   0 recs

save situation now... is franklin the eigth inning guy, or reyes tonight?

by adiueordie on Apr 4, 2008 10:25 PM EDT   0 recs

it won't be Reyes

it's still Franklin, without a doubt.

by chuckb on Apr 4, 2008 10:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Dudes, don't throw the ball back

This ain't Wriggley and the hometeam has won a world series or two in the last 100 years.

by cloistermaximus on Apr 4, 2008 10:26 PM EDT   0 recs

That pissed me off enough to log on and post

And whats worse is the cheers that followed it. Btw, why don't they eject someone for throwing a ball on the field?

by Tackle Box on Apr 4, 2008 10:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm pretty sure you do get ejected

Throwing ANYTHING on the field will get you tossed, and rightfully so.

by cloistermaximus on Apr 4, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

throwing a ball back is stupid.

by adiueordie on Apr 4, 2008 10:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

what is that chant going on?

by adiueordie on Apr 4, 2008 10:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Miles to go

Nice path to the ball. Miles ends up trying to do an over the head barehand catch

by ubeddie on Apr 4, 2008 10:28 PM EDT   0 recs

Looked like Ankiel should have taken control

Miles had no chance at catching that.

by cloistermaximus on Apr 4, 2008 10:29 PM EDT   0 recs

Did you see what Bobby Cox did last night?

He had his left hander, Resop pitch to one batter, then play LF for one batter, then go back to the mound to pitch to another lefty...never seen that done before...shocked Tony has never done that (that I know of)

by husker4cards on Apr 4, 2008 10:29 PM EDT   0 recs

WhiteyBall

Whitey Herzog did that with two relievers in the mid 80's. And I'm drawing a blank as to the names.

by ubeddie on Apr 4, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Whitey

I believe the Cards used to do that in the 80s

by AirForceCardsFan on Apr 4, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Whitey used to do it

w/ Worrell and Ken Dayley, although I think he used RF

by chuckb on Apr 4, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Before my time...

I became a die-hard Card, when I moved to STL at the end of the Torre era...thanks for the infp though...

by husker4cards on Apr 4, 2008 10:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Correct

It was a righty/lefty/righty combo. Worrell pitched to the first man and retired him. Moved to right field for the lefty (not sure why....probably better substitution) while Dayley pitched, then returned to face the second righty. I remember it well.

by tinstl on Apr 4, 2008 10:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

looking back on it

Worrell goes to RF when Dayley comes in to face the lefty -- who's presumably more likely to hit it to right. That took some stones!

by chuckb on Apr 4, 2008 10:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Depending on who was

pitching (and, obviously) who was hitting, he'd use either side of the outfield with them if this memory of mine serves me right for once.

Well who the hell can see forever?

by redbirddude on Apr 4, 2008 10:30 PM EDT   0 recs

With this camera angle

I can't tell what the strike zone is. I hate this angle. Espn tried it about 7 to 10 years ago and it flopped horribly. Why does FSN Midwest all of a sudden think it's a great idea?

The viewer is too far away from the action and everything looks low since the camera has to be positioned above the pitcher. Bad idea jeans.

Formerly Big Red (victim of the SBNation upgrade)

by Tackle Box on Apr 4, 2008 10:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I disagree to a ridiculous degree

You see the pitcher's stuff SOOOOO much better and have a much better view of the strikezone. The "off to the side" angle doesn't let you see where the ball is relative to the plate at all you have to judge by where the catcher moves his glove I've hated it for so long.

With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch
