KFNS fires Slaten, who should replace his show?
STLToday.com story
Interesting reaction by Slaten, really, saying that KFNS threw him "under the bus" and the Cardinals' reaction was "vindictive." Was anyone really expecting anything other than this ending? I think KFNS did the right thing by firing Slaten. I've never been a fan of his show and I think what he did was ridiculous. Now that this is over and will be driven into the ground, no doubt, who should replace him and his show?

Me.
Just kidding.
"Dude, we're running out of stadium" - said on the way to our seats in Section 428.

Never heard his show
But that was a ridiculous, pointless, ego-driven stunt that he pulled. Sounds like he's not going to be a Cardinals fan anymore.
Don't have any opinion on who should replace him since I've been out of the STL market for a long timedon't think I've ever even listened to KFNS. It'd be cool if Ernie Hayes had his own show with nothing but dirty stories and organ music.

No kidding they fired him.
He put the station in a pickle. If I did something that could cause legal action against my company im pretty sure they would fire me.

Not Surprised
I used to love Slaten, but over the past year he got incredibly negative. I kind of agreed with him on the cheaters stuff, but it seemed to take over his life.
Got kind of boring.

Same old thing.
Slaten's response is the same as when he got fired from FSMW a few years back. He got fired then for non-sensical ranting against the Cards with very little research to back up his claims. He went on a tirade about how Renteria and Pujols had no business going to the All-Star game that year. Then, when he got fired, he blamed the Cards for getting him fired because he was "too critical." That's probably where the vitriol against LaRussa and Duncan has come from the last few years.
That said, I would love to see John Maracek get an opportunity for a drive-time program. The guy actually researches his opinions, and he doesn't seem to blow in the wind of popular outcry. I think you might see Frank Cusamano get promoted up.

Good Riddance
on this front, as well. I've made my opinions on Mr. Slaten pretty clear in the past, so I won't go off on a rant here. Hopefully, he learns something from this whole situation and can take a bit better tack in his next job. I doubt it, but I suppose it could happen.
I nominate John Maracek, and I will continue stumping for this guy until he has his own show. He's the best in the market, in my ever so less than humble opinion.

Fantastic
Avatar, by the way. I loved the Aquabats more than you can imagine back in 1997 or 98. I still have wonderful memories of the only time I ever saw them play, at the now defunct Galaxy, I believe it was.

Aquabats? My son has some of their CD's. I've even heard a few of them.....
Does that make me cool for a mom or what?

I understand that it is part of Slaten's job to get listeners and being negative can help, but that guy really was one of the meanest, most vindictive people I have ever heard on the radio. What's worst is that he never did any research at all. Several times I have heard him go off on someone that was completely unjustified and based on incorrect opinion.
Also, how arrogant to you have to be to blame the cardinals entirely for this situation? I wonder what's he like in his personal life, he can't act in the same manner or he would have no friends.

Ranting
My favorite part of the show was the rant.
Then the whole show turned into a rant.
I say give the show to EMac!!!!

Here's Kevin ranting against everything St Louis...
here's KFNS saying...buh-bye.
"Is this Heaven?"
"No, it;s Iowa."
"I could've sworn it was Heaven."

Mr. Slaten is obnoxious. I don't care that he's gone.
But he was the only radio person that was ever critical of the Cardinals. Now everyone who is on the radio here is pretty much an employee of the team....or acts like it. They never question the decisions of management and tell us everyone is great. I don't want cynical like Mr. Slaten, but I would like someone who was skeptical. Bernie used to be; now he portrays Mr. LaRussa as if he was the mean old loveable grandpa. Yikes!
She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.

Agree
I heard John Hadley do an interview with Bill DeWitt a couple of weeks ago that was impossible to listen to because his nose was so far up... Well, you know.
It was like hearing a Cuban journalist interview Fidel.
Not much push-back.

The only thing I can say about Mr. Hadley is that he sounds like an idiot.
And that's because I'm trying to not curse; you know, the children......
She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.

Hadley is a shill.
He was also hired by the Rams as their personal PR media interface. He sells to the highest bidder, and he provides no value.
That said, Bob Ramsey (KFNS mid-day) has been extremely critical of the Cards. I think several of the local media personalities have been critical of DeWitt, but they won't criticize LaRussa or Duncan. That is frustrating since these guys aren't perfect. They make mistakes, even though they are both very good at certain management/coaching aspects. We'll see what comes out of all of this. Someone will fill the void.

I have an almost 30 year old grudge against him
Waaaay back in about 1979 or 80, I had him for a Radio news class at UM-St. Louis, when he was doing sports for Channel 4. I was a communications major, and this was a required course for me, so what do they do but hire a TV sports guy for a class on radio news. So Slaten is friends with the baseball coach, and he loads the class with all of the baseball players. Those guys do absolutely nothing in the course, and here I am, working for the campus station, producing a news magazine show, writing news, doing interviews and all that, and I get a freakin' "C", while rumor has it that the jocks all got "A's" from Professor Slaten. Naturally, the top of my head blew off, and I went into the department chair, demonstrated that I did more than my share of the required work, and got my grade changed to a "B", and only because by campus law, you could not get a grade changed higher than one level up.
So you see, with me, it's personal. All the bad words I ever learned in my entire life, I would use to talk about that man. And if he never works another day in the St Louis market again, as far as I am concerned, as they say, payback is a bitch.
