concerning the middle infield...
mlbtraderumors.com has mentioned this twice in under a week now... apparently the Pads aren't doing too well record wise, and come the trade deadline could be willing to deal (potentially a fire sale).
Greene makes $4.5 mil this year and $6.5 for '09. I know he's not an offensive powerhouse, but I seem to recall that he's got a little pop in his bat.
The Friars could certainly use outfield help, particularly in center (see Edmonds, Jim).
Point being, while I'd rather see Ryan get the chance to play more often, if not everyday, I understand that Tony likes veterans. Greene is still relatively young, but has ML experience - moreso than Ryan. We've got the outfield depth the Pads could make use of.
Just food for thought really. I don't even know what kind of trade I'd propose, if it'd be simply 1 OF for Greene, or if we'd need to include a pitcher (or a SS for that matter, since we'd be taking theirs).
I guess I just wondered what the community thought about the state of the Padres' affairs, and if we could make use of it.

Greene
I’ve said it many times already, and stick to it: I would love to have Greene on this team.
He strikes out a good bit, but he drives in runs and can hit quite a few home runs. He’s also pretty amazing defensively.
I honestly think he’s about the best we’re going to get over the next couple of years for the price we’re looking to spend and what we can afford to give up in players. We should go for him. DFA Izturis. That’s a pretty big upgrade.
On with the (good) youth movement!
Trade for a Padres SS?
I seem to recall a prior trade for a Padres shortstop working out for us….
Go crazy folks, go crazy!
if we move our focus a little further north,
I spotted this while checking out mulder’s debacle against AAA salt lake.
Check out the 3B. Think he could take up SS? What would the angels want for him?
