Great Article on Barton
You know, I'm not usually a fan of Jeff Passan. I feel he tends to be pretty negative regarding the Cardinals most of the time. On the other hand, though, he does write about them a lot, which it's nice to see an alternative to the Red Sox and such.
With that said, I stumbled on this article on Yahoo Sports' baseball front page. It's a great read about Brian Barton and will make you feel really proud to have him on our team. Let's just hope NASA doesn't give him a call anytime soon . . .

My Barton jersey came in the mail today...
I’m hoping he gets the start against Lilly and Hill this weekend and goes nuts. Something about him just makes me think he’ll be a Cub killer.
Well who the hell can see forever?
i might have to pick one up too...
i forgot that he was an aerospace major too. there arent many baseball players whom i share a major with. thats quite the story, though.
More reasons to like this guy
and there already were so many!

Being an aerospace engineer myself...
I gotta say I’d trade places with him anyday…
I have a cool job, but I’d much rather play baseball. The money is better, too, if you can hang around for awhile…
Congrats to Brian, and here’s to a long and fruitful career with the Cardinals!

Yeah...
But you can work past the age of 40. Guys who never sign big deals still have to work once they “retire.”
It’s got to be great for Barton knowing that he has a hi-paying, challenging career to fall back.
Well who the hell can see forever?
And thank goodness for that...I'm about to turn 40.
I’d hate to be put out to pasture right now…
But it seems like a lot of guys do well (or not) as color guys for teams they played for (the list is endless, obviously)...Barton could do that.
But what am I talking about…he just started his baseball career!

Proud to have him on our team
As a UM Booster, I am stoked to see Barton with the BOB on his chest. He is the kind of man I’m proud to root for, intelligent and focused. I hope Tony realizes soon what he has with Barton. I see Henderson or Reyes with a brain.

Props to Passan (and Barton)
That was a really good read. Sometimes, the story is so good that all you have to do is get out of your own way in telling it.
I also wonder if Barton’s wanderlust might translate onto the field? He has the brains and adaptive qualities and perhaps the athletic versatility to start moving around from position to position a bit more. He could become our next “Secret weapon”...
