Game 27 Open Thread: April 28, 2008

Cincinnati @ St. Louis

Arroyo Wellemeyer
0-3, 7.56 2-0, 3.77

bronson arroyo has his own official web site, with nifty flash graphics and everything. . . . . he's an interesting BABIP case study. from 2004-2006 he  consistently held batters to below-average BABIPs, in the .275 range (.295 is about average). last year his BABIP went up to .313, above his normal range; we'd expect to see it come down this year, and his ERA to come down accordingly. hasn't happened yet; BABIP through the first five starts of 2008 is .397 . . . . .

Ludwick

Ludwick in the lead-off spot. Congrats on (maybe) having a hand in determining the lineup.

That's the first thing I thought...

You heard it on VEB first… wouldn’t it be brilliant if we scored 10 runs tonight…

Moz vs. Jock

Does this make it a revenge game?

Not that Walt has had much of a chance to make an impact on the Reds roster just yet.

by stl tyler on Apr 28, 2008 7:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Walt already said he has a Vendetta

against the Cardinals.

I think the Cardinals should have a Vendetta against him for Mark Mulder, Juan Encarnacion and Adam Kennedy.

i was wonder lboros

what your take was on jock saying it’s a vendetta. i love jock for the teams he put together, i mean wow. but he sure seems to be a small person in some ways.

Amaury translates into "Punisher of Spheroids" in the lost tongue of Atlantis. Marti means "Belgian Waffle."

I also wonder

about Walt’s relationship with Mo. They must’ve worked together closely while Walt was here. Too much time has passed since the position of GM changed, and I don’t remember much about their relationship. I wonder if ill will is extended to the entire organization, or just the owner, Lundhow, etc.

The kicker

is that after saying that last week, he now says everyone is making too much of it…

Arroyo re: BABIP

I’d imagine having just a 52% first strike percentage might do that do him to some degree.

With no evidence to the contrary, Colby Rasmus is clutch

Tony on Glaus' eyes

He just said if Glaus’s eyes start watering up before the first punch Ryan will be in at 3rd and batting leadoff. Ludwick will move to the 5th spot in the order.

by Evilfrog on Apr 28, 2008 7:27 PM EDT   0 recs

I hope it doesn't come to the first punch

If we were playing the Astros again tonight, I could totally see it happening like that.

He who hates Derek Jeter

hates baseball, America and quite possibly life itself.

Rain delay in the 11th inning. Blech.

Almost game time!

And this is the only game this week I get to watch with VEB. :(

I know, I was sad when I realized it today

But tomorrow, I’m having dinner and watching the game with co-workers (booo for no VEB, but at least I’m being social, right?), working during the day game on Wednesday, and off day on Thursday. Will probably be out on Friday. Sad face!

VEB game

I remember it being mentioned during th off-season. Was a date ever decided on?

by mattyfrommo on Apr 28, 2008 8:11 PM EDT   0 recs

I believe it's

May 17th against the Rays.

by Phizzle on Apr 28, 2008 8:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, I also heard that

it’s the 17th against the Rays. I’m going to try to go. I’ve been told that the plan is to meet at the Broadway Oyster Bar after the game.

What a stupid fucking lineup

what the hell is Tony thinking, giving Skip a day off and all? What an idiot!

by houstoncardinal on Apr 28, 2008 8:23 PM EDT   0 recs

what's the deal with the increased profanity on this site lately?

looked a lot more strike-like on gameday

how accurate is gameday?

are locations computer generated, or are pitch locations plotted by a person

My first memory of Cardinals baseball is seeing Daryl Porter jump into Bruce Sutter's arms!

by 82Special on Apr 28, 2008 8:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I believe it's pretty accurate

But it does glitch sometimes. It has Welly with three more pitches than he threw. And they just show up as “ball” against Jr. With no speed or location data.

by Evilfrog on Apr 28, 2008 8:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

according to gameday

we didn’t swing at the first 11 pitches. weird.

VEB Game

Do you get a block of tickets? Or everybody goes on their own and you meet up at the bar afterwards?

"Jimmy told me, 'If you keep it right there at two runs and no more, we'll win this game,'" Wainwright said. "'Me and Albert will get the job done."

by Andie203 on Apr 28, 2008 8:26 PM EDT   0 recs

I think we decided on going on our own

The logistics of buying a block were just too much trouble if I remember correctly

by mattyfrommo on Apr 28, 2008 8:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't think anyone got a block of tickets

but I could be wrong.
