Game 26 Open Thread: April 27, 2008

Houston @ St. Louis

Backe Lohse
1-2, 4.15 2-0, 2.54

couple unusual lineup notes for the cards today --- ludwick (not duncan) gets the start vs the right-handed backe (and bats cleanup), and miles (not kennedy) will start at 2b; most of aaron's starts this year have come against lhp.

busch III appears to agree w/ loshe so far: 6 career starts, 5 quality starts. cards need a seres win; they've only won 1 of their last 5.

So far so go

1-2-3 first. Lohse is hitting his spots.

depends

on what people are offering for him.

if we can get something that helps us going forward

i think you have to at least consider it

It depends

are the Cards contending? If so, by all means KEEP HIM.

Brilliant pickup out of the gates for Mo.

But we only have him for one year

so if we can get something of value out of him for the long term then I think we should.

by tnek5 on Apr 27, 2008 2:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

speaking of good starts.

Backe needs 6 pitches to get through the 1st.

nice play miles.

more reason to figure something out with the MIF

Does anyone else notice the poor picture quality on MLBtv for this game?

Rolen

Hit his first HR this year.

by Evilfrog on Apr 27, 2008 2:38 PM EDT   0 recs

good for Rolen

i’m rooting for him and I hope he can stay healthy

by cardsfansouth on Apr 27, 2008 2:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Least

We are making him throw some pitches this inning

Yadi and Troy scorched theirs

But nothing to show for it.

A little too much lately.

Kaz Matsui is like Skip Shumaker

if you don’t throw him anything down and in, he can’t hit it.

Lohse's not going to make five innings today

with the pace of his pitch count and his location—59 through three.

Nice pitching to Berckman :)

Lohse is over throwing

If he doesn’t stay back and throw more off speed stuff, he will give a bomb shortly. Akiel is starting to annoy me.

Atta boy, Ank

I’ll take a walk in front of Pujols any day.

To matter who we bat 4th.

1st pitch swinging again

Geez, did Ludwick believe he was going to get a fastball??

25 straight for AP

the streak continues. Let’s go, Luddy!

I think it will take a major trade

for us to even consider picking him up

Ankiel is Jesus!

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Apr 27, 2008 3:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

he can be had for just money.

We don’t need to trade a thing for him.

by Evilfrog on Apr 27, 2008 3:23 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I know

but then we’d have to send down an outfielder. who would that be?

Ankiel is Jesus!

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Apr 27, 2008 4:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

my goodness...

two walks and then first-pitch swinging.

i just don’t understand it.

by RedbirdAvenger on Apr 27, 2008 3:12 PM EDT   0 recs

especially with all the pressure building on the pitcher

it’s stupid

My first memory of Cardinals baseball is seeing Daryl Porter jump into Bruce Sutter's arms!

by 82Special on Apr 27, 2008 3:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

the coaches should demand that you take a pitch in that situation

give the pitcher a chance to make a mistake

it wasn’t even a grooved fastball

to move Pujols up to the number 2 slot?

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Apr 27, 2008 3:15 PM EDT   0 recs

no, either 2 or 4 make the most sense, I think

I wrote about this last week

by 82Special on Apr 27, 2008 3:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah cleanup makes sense

but if his average remains so high with lots of walks. who knows

Ankiel is Jesus!

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Apr 27, 2008 3:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

+1

If we’re going to play a Whiteyball lineup, we need our big stick at cleanup, like George Hendricks or Jack Clark.

albert's walk with 2 on

is why a walk is never as good as a hit

by thoran85 on Apr 27, 2008 3:20 PM EDT   0 recs

and a walk

is better than a strikeout

Ankiel is Jesus!

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Apr 27, 2008 3:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Hu?

While a walk does not have the run scoring potential of a hit in that situation, it is better than an out. Albert’s walk was a fine choice and far better than doing what Ryan did which is hit a pitcher’s pitch for an out just in the name of making contact.

by JMedwick on Apr 27, 2008 3:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

a walk in Ludwicks spot

Would have been nice. Instead of swinging at a ball.

by Evilfrog on Apr 27, 2008 3:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My point

was not to say that albert did the wrong thing by taking the walk, because he did do the best thing you could with the pitches he saw. However I am just pointing out that a walk is sometimes just as good as a hit and other times, like when runners are in scoring position, a walk is not as valuable.

9 of 16

boy i hope so

miles is the only one hitting today… scary

by TxCardFan on Apr 27, 2008 3:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

miles

doesn’t it seem like that happens every so often? i feel like just when i’m getting sick of aaron miles he goes 4 for 5… all singles of course but still. not saying we don’t need to upgrade our middle infield or anything.

has to break out soon….???

didn’t get a chance to face our line-up…he might have actually got a win this year before we was released

that was another

sharply hit ball. Stay up just a little to long.

it’s totally unpredictable most of the time. luck is a huge factor here.

This team is like a computer that's not working

and we are in hour three with customer support and we are on hold while the CSR we are talking to is asking his supervisor why all the things he’s tried hasn’t worked…and we are this close to being told just give up and get a new one because dammit it just should work.

by Harknights on Apr 27, 2008 3:38 PM EDT   0 recs

I always seen the Cards this year

like a teenage dating scene, little tease and tickle at the beginning, some go ahead signs during the stretch and it’ll end with a bang.

by AdjustedExpectations on Apr 27, 2008 3:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ok top of the lineup...

time for some damage. I mean the ball’s got to fall in at some point, right??

yeah
