not really

Tony has stated that he’ll start getting more innings slowly and by June/July expects him to finish the game.

It will be sorta amazing if he finishes the game though.

Great if you compare it to his last two starts. 6ks on the night. 1 walk, a few hits here and there. Only 1 ball I can remember that was right of the middle of the plate that should have been hit. But the batter just watched it.

by AdjustedExpectations on Apr 24, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes I can

This game comes to mind. In a season where every win was needed to get them to the World Series, that was a huge hit in a huge game. Just because a guys doesn’t hit dingers doesn’t mean he can’t contribute.

I can’t believe I just defended Miles. I’m getting soft in my old age.

by cloistermaximus on Apr 24, 2008 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

my point on Ludwick was

that you had a guy tearing the cover of the ball, who had just hit HRs in 3 straight games, who has a Pujolsian OPS against righties this year…and TLR sits him against every righty in every game since then.

all so he could play his lefties because “the book” says you gotta play the lefties against the right pitchers.

forget the fact that Ludwick hits righties better hen lefties. when a player is on fire like that you play him everyday…every other manager in baseball would have done that except TLR who tries to show how smart he is.

just take turns sitting one of the lefty OFs to keep Ludys hot bat in the lineup.

by gossard56 on Apr 24, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply actions

the other point is that

He was benching Barton too, and the three outfielders that were playing were doing well. perhaps not playing him actually helped his B.A…. we’ll never know man

Ankiel is a guy...

that they were couinting on to produce big this year, whether that was thr right call we will have to wait and see, but you cant just bench him because he has a few bad games…esp after he hit so well the first week+.

Is Brendan Ryan really any more bothersome than, say, Jose Reyes

who gets lauded for his youthful exuberance by the media. Who cares if Ryan is a little overactive. I’m more concerned about his baseball contributions.

i actually took it as

ryans first game was today this year, with our staff its possible they may not see him again this year, though obviously not likely.

his contributions were “loud” at the plate, so of course you wouldn’t want to see him again.

i didnt take it about literal chatter at all

I'm too exhausted to give the full recap

but needless to say, there is never a dull moment in the Cardinals bullpen. Randy Flores was awesome enough to throw us a ball at the end of the game, but that was probably bribery for not telling the world of his antics out in the BP. Between trying to throw his used gum into Villone’s mouth, to almost taking Ron’s head off with a baseball Randy threw against a metal railing OVER AND OVER AND OVER again, it appears that when the starter is dealing, the BP finds a way to keep itself occupied.

I also love that Izzy doesn’t make his first appearence in the BP either of the last 2 nights until the 6th inning.

Why not just put Izturis on the DL?

If it costs us not having him for 6 extra days, who cares? Stop wasting the roster spot.

it would make way too much sense

and in the last couple of years when have the done that?

I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2

Is he unable to throw

for another week? If that’s the case makes sense to bring up someone. Becomes more of a who. can Rico come back already? If you bring up Jiminez does he have to pass through waivers to go back down? Do you start the clock now for Hoff? Or add another arm to help the BP?

As the Cardinals continue to not hit HRs

and with the #4 spot in the order now hitting .218 with just 7 XBH, what is the team going to do to fix this.

Obvious choice is to move Glaus up one spot, but I think he hits better in the 5 spot.

I hate to bring this name up again but: Barry Bonds agent says he wouldn’t hang up on calls with league minimum offers for Barry. Ignore the fact that he is a blight on the human race for just one second and allow your mind to dream about a guy who put up a .565 SLG last year following Hombre for 350 ABs in the season.

Ok, back to reality. Now what?

Bonds

would be great to put in the 4th hole behind Albert. And at this point as much as I dislike the guy, I wouldn’t really mind if we signed him.

For a couple of reasons.
1. I don’t want the Cubs to win the Central.
2. ESPN & the media seem to dislike the Cardinals anyways, why not go all out and sign Bonds and really piss these guys off.
3. I would love to see Albert’s numbers with a guy like Bonds is batting behind him.

It won’t happen though….it would be a PR nightmare and a giant headache for the DeWitts.

PR Nightmare

equals tons of press, which equals tons of interest, which equals ticket sales. And being able to free up an OFer or two (who they will have to trade away to make room for Rasmus in the near future) to trade in a package and hopefully upgrade one of the MI positions… signing Bonds would be a great move.

And that’s not even mentioning that having Bonds in the clean up spot would equal more runs, and hopefully more wins, which again would mean more tickets sold.

Well who the hell can see forever?

by Alxfritz on Apr 25, 2008 2:05 AM EDT up reply actions

And even better

that I forgot to add.

4. Bonds can probably be signed really cheap. As Hardcore said his agent will listen to all offers.
I bet Bonds would jump at the chance to play for the Cardinals.

Hell with it, come on Mo call up his agent and get something going….we need the extra offense if we are going to try and compete for the division this year…I would hate to waste this great start so far.

Screw what ESPN thinks,

THis is the same network that made a huge deal last night about Joba getting his first career loss! I cant believe he lost! ESPN controling sports media is the biggest joke in the world. Sorry for the early morning rant, I just really hate ESPN. (Yes, I still watch it…)

Interesting....

http://blogs.chron.com/baseballblog/archives/2008/04/yankees_need_no.html

I’m not advocating such a trade (at all-I think he doesn’t have a lot left), but apparently the Cards are #1 out of three teams Roy Oswalt would accept a trade to. IMO, it’s a good thing Jocketty’s gone, because we’d be saying goodbye to Rasmus, Chris Perez and Bryan Anderson (at least!) if he were still here.
