Game 20 overflow thread

baseball is such a strange game . . . . cards lead it 4-3, still batting with 2 out in the top of the 9th. hold 'em, iz.

so long as he gets three outs, and no guys crossing home plate

I’ll take whatever he does

How'd you like to be Ned Yost?

You’ve got Ted Simmons (your likely replacement) in the dugout with you and in a tie game, you have the choice of Turnblow or Gagne on his 6th straight day.

I've noticed that

Fox radars are typically off. I’ve definitely caught pitchers throwing 61mph fastballs for an inning or two before they realize they need to fix it.

On with the (good) youth movement!

by aet15 on Apr 21, 2008 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed.

it seems like the guys running the thing don’t even notice it’s way off.

i would trust gameday and the stadium before going to FOX’s gun. don’t know about KSDK.

Whew

What a crazy game, and a great win! I’m very glad we didn’t have to face Braun or Fielder in that 9th.

Web Gem

Duncan’s catch was the number four webgem tonight

And who said he had trouble in the outfield…..

by ubeddie on Apr 21, 2008 10:59 PM EDT reply actions

Really?

It looked like he misplayed that ball a bit at the wall.

pretty good catch for a first baseman

really showed off his range….

Just cause

he ended up on his butt doesn’t mean he didn’t have a plan when he attacked that fly ball.

I heard it on the radio and it sounded a lot better than it looked.

by ubeddie on Apr 21, 2008 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

He ran to the wall

and then had to reach back over his shoulder to catch it.

He did better than I could ever do but I wouldn’t exactly call it a ‘Web Gem’.

From where I was sitting

it looked like he misplayed the ball. I’m glad he was there and managed to catch it (I don’t know if Braun would have made that play) but with the roof closed I don’t think there would be any wind messing with its trajectory. Still, an ugly catch is better than Ludwick’s “whoops” in right.

In all though, an enjoyable game to watch. Had the red VEB shirt there to represent.

by dontEATnachos on Apr 22, 2008 1:14 AM EDT up reply actions

nice

I also thought it was misplayed, though I was watching on tv.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.

by madding on Apr 22, 2008 6:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Could have very well

lost it in the lights like Ludwick.

Still. I wouldn’t have called it a Web Gem. It was a misplayed ball. A great catch at the last minute. There are plenty of OFers who would not have caught it after they misplaced it. But it is still a misplayed ball.

by Evilfrog on Apr 22, 2008 9:25 AM EDT up reply actions

ESPN called it

thier number four webgem not me. I thought the result was nice, but it must have been a slow night for that catch to make the list.
